In the VW I.D. interior the conventional cockpit no longer exists. The VW ID MPV instead projects the key information by means of an AR (augmented reality) Head-up Display into the driver's field of vision - in 3D, in virtual format onto the road. VW I.D. interior features such as the VW ID infotainment and air-conditioning functions are operated via a removable tablet. The main VW ID interior controls for driving, meanwhile, are located on the VW ID steering wheel. Its inner section is not - as is normal today - fitted with spokes and buttons, but rather has a kind of touchpad with capacitive fields, thus turning the traditional steering wheel into a multi-functional touch-sensitive VW ID steering wheel.
The use of space in the VW ID concept car, which has up to eight seats, is better than in any other electric vehicle. The multi-variable seating and interactive integration of the VW ID BUZZ makes a great deal possible. Thanks to the extended MEB XL platform, this 4,942 mm long, 1,976 mm wide and 1,963 mm high concept vehicle provides what for its class are extraordinary VW I.D. interior spatial dimensions inside as well.
Volkswagen is demonstrating with the I.D. BUZZ concept vehicle in Detroit just how rich in features the electric mobility of tomorrow will be - an all- wheel drive plus VW I.D. interior spatial marvel with electric motors on front and rear axles, a fully automated driving mode (I.D. Pilot) and a new generation of indicators and controls. "The I.D. BUZZ is the next generation MPV.
Its electric range as per the NEDC is up to 600 kilometres", explains Dr Frank Welsch, Member of the Board of Management Volkswagen Brand for the Development Division. The I.D. BUZZ takes on new energy inductively or from a charging station. At a charging power of 150 kW, it takes around 30 minutes to charge up to 80 per cent.
It was just four months ago that Volkswagen unveiled the little brother of the I.D. BUZZ at the Paris Motor Show: the VW I.D.3 It too - a revolution. A compact electric car that will launch as of 2020 with ranges of up to 600 kilometres. The first car to go into series production based on the MEB. And the first Volkswagen concept car that can be driven in fully automated mode.
The new VW I.D. BUZZ is now the first VW MPV with which that is possible: all that is needed is a gentle push on the steering wheel and it instantly moves back, melts into the cockpit and switches the VW I.D. BUZZ from manual into the fully automated 'I.D. Pilot' mode (envisaged as of 2025). Now, the VW I.D. driver's seat can be turned around and the driver can face the passengers in the back. Laser scanners, ultrasound sensors, radar sensors, area-view cameras and a front camera scan the surrounding area, with other traffic data being received via the Cloud.

I agree the slanted headlights to not preserve the classic and iconic face of the Still beautiful vintage VW Bus and they make it look like a generic mini van kinda uncool I think I’ll stick with my Mini Cooper
Completely agree - the round headlights were the personality of the original bus. It looks hokey futuristic.

There wont be that much technology. Not sure what they where thinking saying with the auto driving. We arent even close to that tech yet.

270 miles??😕 hummm thats a tough sell when you consider how long it takes to charge. Its still an amazing offering but the range must be improved. Also will this be AWD? If so this would win over many buyers

Lol, what a joke. A year later and still no car or news of any release/sales dates. They say available in 2022, lol. Other car companies will beat them to it. VW reputation has been sullied with false consumer expectations. Great concept van but its sleeping in line with the rest of VW's concept cars. Never to see gravel again.
Now that it is out with a ranged of 400km it is a good reminder of why hype and reality are often far apart.
it's cute but, is it a camper van? where's the cooker and fridge they used to have? Couldn't ever afford one!
What will the camper do if there is a construction works on the street where there are man who control the traffic.
The lidar that they have isn’t bias to who’s on the road. If it’s any kind of human being, even an inanimate object it should detect it and respond accordingly. What we can do with em waves is fascinating!
Is it compatible with car seats? Family van? It's hard to find a good van for a family who has 4 children all under 4 years old.
I’m pretty sure there is a video of it and it shows two kids in car seats, probably can fit more than two also

What about the OG gen 1 egolf guys we are still waiting on battery upgrade options. You cant forget about the people who believed in you from the beginning to be able to have the iD series. The leaf offers battery upgrade options.
OFFER battery upgrade options so people aren’t scared of having old tech when new better tech is there.
Warranties are about to start to expire VW needs to step it up asap they have had plenty of time to get us a upgrade by now. Expecially after that keisel guy did the 55 kw way way back and he is third party 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

I like the idea but i doubt this would work all over the world, and what about snow, rain and just bad weather conditions....could it handle that with out a person to have to take the wheel?
drop all of the tech, make it a hybrid instead of electric and redo the interior to be darker and more 1970's, not modern 1970's but actual hippie interior.
How far will it go, if a person was to buy one. How would u install the charging dock. In there driveway, would you have just specific parking areas for this Model.
I'm curious if the driving dock would work outdoors with a snow storm I don't see that working

this will be awesome... I hope there will be info about : wireless charging when it s raining, freezing and 30cm of snow on the charging place what's happening ? 4x4 ? toilets and shower ? this is just a prototype and doesn't even exist in road yet but they need people smarter with much more ideas than the stupid engineers who has never lived in a camper in his entire life.

4x4 for a toilet, that is gonna make people clostrophobic and bruised, kill the yellow, add an octopus or the tyedye tech is epic, needs to make more milage, or put the solar panels on top, there are places in this world having to stop long enough to recharge is rather scary the seats, interior, love it, also, upgrade the mirrors & rearview, glare free is the way to be. And make it able the keep up in the autobahn, or your not getting that asking price.
