    Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. And yes, I thought you went a little fast, for me. But that's what the pause button is for. New to your channel and immediately discerned you're the best of the half-dozen other vids I've checked out. If this is lesson Essentials #30 then I look forward to catching up since your teaching is superior in contents and quality...I was joking re u going too fast - it's just right. Later I will inform you (and any other comments readers with interest) why this particular lesson using PhotoMatch is of such primary importance for my plans. 10 minutes ago I didn't even know it could be done. I'm so excited. Thanks again. --steve

    Nice thanks for tutorial and pace was good. Question, what about the other side of the model? The photo shows two faces but if it is used in an interactive 3d environment say for example, Google Earth, what has to be done to render the unseen side of the barn?

  • @leosieczka3724

    Very useful. I've started applying your tips to my drone footage. 3D modelling this way is much cleaner than photogrammetry and dealing with point clouds.

      TheSketchUpEssentials Hey! It's working out much better than photogrammetry. The buildings look sharper and the textures look much cleaner. My big hangup right now is that the high resolution textures are causing my Sketchup software to run really slowly. I'm also stumbling around when the object I'm trying to photo match is not on an angle and flat against the camera. I can't seem to place the perspectives properly. Otherwise, results are great at the cost of more work.

    Good speed. Very helpful. I plan to use SketchUp, PlaceMaker, OpenStreetMap, my camera, and my Mavic Pro 2 to create a sketch of 5 locations that I want to model in a proposed railroad museum. The sketches would be used for the creation of marketing materials for fund raising and for modeling when construction of the museum railroad begins. Do you know anyone that has a similar applications that I might network with? We will model the early 20th century so that some current buildings will need to be edited out of the sketch and some new buildings that did not make the OpenStreetMap for our locations will beed to be added.

    Excellent Video! You are zooming as you adjust axis, how are you doing that? I am on a laptop and don't have any "wheel" as far as I can tell. Also at 4:41 you draw a rectangle (green) and it suddenly jumps to red, correctly oriented. How are you making it shift axis at that moment? Thanks

      When you first activate the rectangle tool, if you tap the arrow keys, you can lock the tool to a certain axis - I talk about it more in this video - th-cam.com/video/tHYXGt84yGo/w-d-xo.html - Thanks!

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Easton - probably what I would do is import the texture images (th-cam.com/video/PDe_sflYRf8/w-d-xo.html) then use position texture (th-cam.com/video/xUQCApQUQ7U/w-d-xo.html) to place the textures in your model where you want them. Hopefully this helped!

    if you were to build a scale model of a historic building that no longer exists, and you have to rely on only photographs, some don't even have blue prints anymore. would this program help? does the program measure the individual lengths of the lines so i can transfer them to a live scale model? -looks very intersting.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly - doing it this way doesn't give you super high precision on lengths - what it does is allows you to get proportions close and add textures, but you could draw your building, then use the scale tool to set the scale of your created model to get close - th-cam.com/video/YRC1gg4tWx8/w-d-xo.html

      You would probably have to follow the process on this page - help.sketchup.com/en/article/3000115 - in the section "Matching a photo to an existing model." Basically, you'd have to try to use match photo to line your photo up with the other side of your barn. Obviously it would be preferable if you had a photo from the other side of the building. Hi SketchUp. I need an advice. I am trying to recreate an old van from the 1940s. None of the vans exists today except a some pictures and few drawings, but they are all photographed at an angle. Is it possible to draw the van from these photographs using SketchUp some how and still with correct measurements. I have tried to measure the pictures and using some mathematical equations but still alot inaccuracies. Can you or somebody help… I know some measurements like distance between the axles and height… If I compare the drawings I do have with the photos, it is obvious that they are very very inaccurate and I can´t use them...

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're trying to model something exactly, this is not the way to do it. This is a great way to approximate shapes using proportions, but not a good way at all to create actual scaleable drawings
