I have been dealing with alot of personal issues this year. It meant I wasn't in the right mind frame to make videos. I know that this video will not be up to my normal standard but it's a start and I wanted to get something out before the end of the year. I'm sorry to my dedicated supporters who have been donating and not getting anything in return. I really appreciate you. I look forward to saying goodbye to 2024 and for things to hopefully get better and get back to making videos which I did enjoy.
Good information and instructions, thanks! I got back into Amiga heavily this year. I’ve had an A600 since it was released and upgraded it too, but finally this summer I got my dream machine, the A1200. Bought it for a very reasonable price from a friend and it came with the Blizzard 1230 as well. Got it recapped and maintenanced, with an IDE/SD adapter. How nice to finally be gaming with the A1200! I also got a new case and keyboard for it. Nothing wrong with emulation or FPGA, but for me it’s a joy to use real hardware, with a CRT of course.
Great to hear you got your dream machine. A1200 is an awesome machine and with an accelerator it gives you alot of options. Glad you got it recapped and a new case is a great idea, I might need to check those out for mine.
Since about 2020 I have been desperately trying to get into Amiga. I love my 64 and 128, but ended up skipping on Amiga as my dad went the PC route with a 386sx-16 as the machine after the 64C. My struggle is that I have no idea what to DO with the machine. I've done the emulation and have my MiSTer setup with Amiga "emulation", but I haven't found "purpose" yet. I think my problem is specifically that I wasn't in that arena when they were popular so I don't have any knowledge base about them. I don't have any ties to them, but, I want to try and understand what WOULD bring me into that ecosystem. I know a couple people who would sell their machines, but, I'm not interested in the price tag until I'm quite confident that I'm going to use it for the prices that they're asking (Which are absolutely fair prices, since I know them personally and it's not an ebay scam)
You raise some good questions for when nostalgia isn't the driving force. I think you should have a go just exploring Workbench operating system. But thinking about what passions and hobbies do you enjoy. Are you a creative person, if so Deluxe Paint, Personal Paint and maybe eventually 3D rendering programs would be something to look at. If your a musician you might be interested in tracker music like OctaMED. The thing with modern day computing. The journey is shorter and quicker to get to your result than it will be with an Amiga. But if you keep at it and spend time on it you can find that different way Amiga does things than modern PC's. Hope you enjoy the journey. :-)
