The memorable quotes, the character work, the descriptions that put you right beside the characters in situations no one in their right mind would ever want to be in... Pierce Brown really is a master of his craft. Red Rising is my all time favourite series, and I honestly believe anyone who can stomach it will enjoy it. I have no plans to stop singing praises for this series any time soon. Yet another great video! I'm really enjoying watching this channel grow.
Excellent analysis! RR is a tremendous series. World building, characters, and prose are top notch. And honestly, each new book is better than the last; Light Bringer is a 10/10. Brown is simply an incredible writer.
"They dont want sheep, they want wolfs". Wow i still have chills... As a spaniard whose parents grew up in a facist country, i think your explanation is one of the best i've ever seen. I really really love this channel. You are very funny, not condescending at all, and very intelligent. Keep up the great work!! 😊
Wow! I cannot imagine what that was like for your parents! I'm glad my explanation has worked so well for you. I think all the elements of fascism exist right now in most countries. It just takes one lunatic to arrange them in the right order for the process to start all over again. People need to know what to look for. Thank you so much for cheering me on, my friend! Very appreciated. ❤
I unfortunately know what a blood eagle is because over a decade ago I wasted my money on Tom Knox's book _The Genesis Secret._ I do not recommend that less than mediocre Dan-Brown-knock-off, but it had a character from Finland, my home country, whose name is not Finnish and who tells a joke that captures the essence of Finnishness quite well. I shall tell it to you now, in my own words, for no apparent reason: A Finn and a Swede decided to drink some alcohol. They emptied a cup after another, and hours passed in silence. They drank and did not say a word. Then the Swede raised his glass and said: 'Skål!' The Finn became angry and huffed: 'Did we come here to talk or to drink?'
Red Rising may be the definitive modern sci-fi, but you have the definitive chop of the ages! Your hair is so awesome man! Fantastic work with this video, love the Red Rising saga - picked up the first book around Christmas 2023, and just finished Light Bringer, couldn't put the series down.
I read Book 1 last year and DNFed the series. I thought Book 1 was ok but there was this YAish feel to the character writing and my general excitement was down after finishing it and wasn't immediately ready for Book 2, but coming across this video, I might pick up Book 2. After Red Rising, I started The Expanse series and oh man that's definitely my kinda of stuff, it was so good but I'll probably give red Rising another chance
Oh yeah, you can't go wrong with Expanse! Yeah book1 red rising has a lot of YA vibes. Don't worry, if that's not your thing, the rest of the series is much more adult. 👌
@@cronkthebookguy watched couple of other videos also like this of yours and loved it, the Malazan one was very good. And I'm very picky with my Booktubers but I think I got a new Booktuber to follow now. You got yourself a subscriber from India👍🏼
been waiting for this one to see if it's worth the divergenty premise! the elephant in the room bit made me burst out laughing because I too went "oh shit, he's hot" when the author portrait popped up.
16:52 yep. I still remember when I bought "Red Rising" and saw the author's photo for the first time lol He's a really handsome guy 😅 I haven't read the other books after the original trilogy yet 'cause they haven't been published in my country, but the Red Rising trilogy is simply incredible! Very well written, with convincing characters and a satisfying ending.
I think you should! I almost didn’t continue reading after book one and now I am in the middle of reading book 6 , Lightbringer. Of course, it’s also ok if the series is not for you.
I've been reading this series since high school so it's definitely the most important series for me, if not my favourite. I even bought a kindle to read lightbringer because it would arrive pretty late here. And now for a little SPOILER... F*** OFF LYSANDER (I believe everyone has uttered this 5 times at the very least with many more to come)
Amazing.. you show his picture, I stop to look at the author and think to myself Damn, haven't seen a writer that handsome in... Well I don't remember if I actually seen an author as attractive as him Then you go on to state the obvious Thank you for giving me the feeling I'm not the (only) weirdo in this
Finding an actual MASH fan 😅 that was usually when I knew it was bedtime. I've tried Red Rising bc I think the concept is fascinating. But it leans too warfare heavy for me, when I prefer the political scheming more.
I know this is an older video but I’m about 100 pages in and just cannot get into this book. I wasn’t really aware that this was/is more a YA series. It has an interesting premise and ideas that I like but the writing is so stale. It feels worse than harry potter in terms of its simplicity. Literally within the pages I’ve read I feel like it’s just handing me the premise without any level of subtlety. Its allegories are comically obvious. The prose of the writing hasn’t done anything to impress me, as someone who likes to highlight passages that are beautiful or though provoking, I haven’t highlighted a single thing with the first parts of this book. Darrow being thrust into this word and basically being told you need to become the most capable and important person in the world, when 5 minutes ago he didn’t even know it existed at all, but here’s some surgery and training over the course and 10 pages and you’re ready, and he accepts it like ok cool, I’m mad I was a slave so I’ll do it. Idk maybe it gets better but unlike Harry Potter or dune he’s not a chosen one. He literally is created to fake it til you make it and something about that, again so far, feel inauthentic and weird. Going to try and finish the first book at least but came here looking for some reasoning as to why these book are so popular.
I really struggled with the first book in terms of the sexist language and tropes used. Eo being refrigerated, language like ‘stop crying like a girl’ used over and over. Women who are meant to be strong warriors becoming damsels in distress…i keep trying to read but then get put off by this.
I keep seeing a lot of people have the same struggles, in golden son it introduces my favorite women in the series and watching them be more badass as the series progress was awesome
I'm sorry, I'm absolutely wrecked by the line "If you like war crimes... you should go to therapy"
How do we get that many politicians into therapy, is there enough therapists?
All war is crime, it comes down to who’s crime seems better than others. Optics are everything.
"If you like war crimes" baby I grew up with Animorphs and Enders Game, don't worry about me.

It does make me mad how hot Pierce Brown is. You should not able to rip my heart out and also look like that.
Better yet that his name sounds like a euphemism
That ant man cut away along with the knowledge of how Darrow experiences the knowledge of learning about the surface is hilarious 😂 perfect!
Excellent review! Loved sci-if September! And I’m so excited for old school October 😊
This is one of my favorite series. It's just so good. Love the review

This is a truly tremendous series. You will not regret reading this.
TH-cam didnt show this to me at all, even though I am subscribed and have watched all your videos. Hope the algorithm hasnt screwed you over too much
I'm so excited for this video! Thank you for the quality content
this was a great review. I love the red rising series, I am only up to book 5 , but your review was spot on. subbed
Hey man, awesome video!! I was looking for something like Harry Potter theory but for red rising and came across this. This was awesome!
I just love listening to your reviews. Pure joy and chill 🍀

That terry goodkind joke got me 🤣
The first two books arrived today. This shi better be good

Just bought Red Rising and Empire of silence(sun eater). Time for some sci-fi.
Sons of Ares also has a great audiobook adaptation. I was pleasantly surprised by it keeping up the quality level of the main seeies

Another Amazing Review!!!
I am basically here to see if I should start book 2. I am convinced I should continue this series now 😊
I think you should! I almost didn’t continue reading after book one and now I am in the middle of reading book 6 , Lightbringer. Of course, it’s also ok if the series is not for you.
Thus color system sounds a lot like the system in Brave New World. Very cool!

Hope you to a similar one for the sun eater series by Christopher ruocchio
Love the work you do! Will you ever get around to doing a video on Fonda Lee's "The Green Bone Saga"?..
Thank you!
Fonda Lee is on my reading list. But that is a big list! :D hopefully one day.
@@cronkthebookguyThe Greenbone Saga is fantastic. Right up there with Stormlight and Red Rising for me.

Woo hoo! 🎉
You should read then the Jean le Flambeur (the Quantum Thief) trilogy by finnish sci-fi writer Hannu Rajaniemi. Brilliant!!!
I definitely want to give red rising a go at some point. I’ve got so much to read and so little time 😂 this series does sound interesting though!
Lucky, I wish I can forget everything about the series and read it again.
Cronk, how's your novel progressing? I hope you launch a Kickstarter for it.
Finding an actual MASH fan 😅 that was usually when I knew it was bedtime. I've tried Red Rising bc I think the concept is fascinating. But it leans too warfare heavy for me, when I prefer the political scheming more.
You will talk about the Homecoming saga by Orson Scott Card?
Me squinting at the pages halfway through golden sun wondering if someone’s above/manipulating the golds
the themes of fascism and indoctrination into pre-determined roles also remind me of the George Orwell classic, "1984"
On your tangent of fascism: I can think of a VERY specific person when I think of Fascism and he's not an Austrian.
Mmmhmm! And there's a lot more than one.
Watching so early the video is only in 360p
😊

Yyyyyy
always one book cover in the series that ruins the aesthetic
Most overrated series I’ve ever read. I felt like it was predictable, very cookie cutter and highly unrealistic.
Hmmm
If you want realism, read a schoolbook.
It is scifi
