    This is the best resource for info on the 70 series. Seriously amazing, I'm incredibly grateful I found this as I'm looking at imports of the 70 here in the US.

    Ride around in the 78 series in Bougainville island in Papua New Guinea. During the civil war there was a blockade and fuel wasn’t being shipping to the island anymore. The refined coconut milk and ran their diesel trucks off of them. A troop carrier is my dream car but in the USA, I need a 25 year old vehicle or older lol thank you for the great video

    Great video bro, being grateful to have 1st edition of 1984 LJ71 series and 1992 HZJ75 troop carrier. The 2L engine later used by 1997 Toyota Kijang diesel and old model of Hiace in Indonesia.

    great video, have never seen this much information on the 70 series put together in one place. Well done, that is a lot of work. One point to add: the track/width of the 70 series 'Pado/light weight 70 series (the LJ, KZJ, etc.) are very nearly the same (the Prado is not substantially narrower, despite different drivelines): The Prado kj70 series (3.0L) is 1415mm for front track and 1400mm rear track, whereas the heavy duty hd70 series (4.2L) is 1425mm and 1420mm, respectively. I am sure there must be some variation over the years and over global markets, but on the whole the Prado was not a narrower vehicle. The bigger difference (30mm) in the rear track might have do to with the bigger rear differential (9.5 v 8, I think?) and maybe a full floating rear axle in the heavy duty series.....

    • @TAI-lr5vr
      @TAI-lr5vr  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you enjoy the video 😁 you're right I didn't touch in the axles yet on this one. Something down the line perhaps
      Also your probably right about the track width. Might have jumbled up with the VDJ70's

    • @Arda86ca
      @Arda86ca ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Track width might be the same but axles are definetely narrower on the Prado. PRADOS use negative offset wheels that is why the track is nearly identical with HDs. HDs use 00 offset Prados use -20

    • @JTuggy_MissionFrmGlobalMargins
      @JTuggy_MissionFrmGlobalMargins ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Arda86ca thanks for that info! Yup, you are right, even when I think/picture in my head the HD 70 series 16 inch split rims, I can see that they are not the same negative offset of the 15 inch prado rims....

    Very informative video. Excellent effort. Malaysian here too, based in PJ. Just got myself a LJ 70 from Sarawak. It's a KJZ71cabin and 1KZ engine (1993(?))mounted on a LJ70 chassis( 1984). Was trying to trace the history of my LJ70 and I stumbled into your video. Thank you. BTW, are there any mechanics/workshops in PJ/KL that can handle Land Cruisers well? Am weary of "bush mechanics" claiming to be Land Cruisers experts. 😄😄

    Hey, thanks for a great video, much appreciated. I wanted to know if there's any way I could tell the difference between a 1999 and 2005 heavy duty model. They both had coil springs is there anything specific that they introduced in 2004-2005?

    • @8ADR.
      @8ADR. 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      1999 have carburators - the pillars are thin and you can also tell from the waistline, each year has its specific shape of line. 2005 are injectors and have thick pillars

    You're slightly off about the 1999 model ones with coil suspension, they arnt so much based off the 80 series, but more like the 105 series, they have 5 stud wheels and different axles, pinions and splines, although the 80 housing is almost identical to the 105

    • @TAI-lr5vr
      @TAI-lr5vr  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Technically we're both wrong on this. The track width of a 105 is a wee bit wider than the 70 series 5 stud axle. By only a couple of millimeters if I'm honest as based on some 79's which have had the 105 axles swapped they are wider in width

    That's a lot of information in onr video and I'm only at the 10 minute mark.
    I always found the numbering system very confusing and when to call a 70 series a prado or land cruiser II.

    I'm thinking to buy a KZJ78, is this car easy to repair and get the spare parts? I'm based in malaysia.. and one thing is it normal that the balancing and alignment of this 70 series just doesn't go right? When I test drive it, the steering appears to be very sensitive and on the wobbly side.. not to mention it already has off road suspension installed and raised higher.

    • @TAI-lr5vr
      @TAI-lr5vr  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there, parts for these are sort of a mixed bag for Malaysia. The electronic hub switch is abit expensive to replace if broken (that's why most convert them to run a mechanical free lock) engine wise it's okay but don't push them too hard as 1KZ have head issues when they are not taken care of.
      I can't say for sure the steering situation. Best take it up with a mechanic who's knowledgeable about these vehicles.
