    I soaked peels in vinegar and made a excellant cleaner with it.
    When I took the peels out if the vinegar, I dehydrated the peels.
    I put the dried peels in cabinets to repeal bugs!

      Remember that you can make a cleaning vinegar from scratch, no need to buy vinegar and then soak. All you need is water, sugar, and fresh or dried citrus peels: th-cam.com/video/RuYuEjud9lc/w-d-xo.html
      You can also add other things such as juniper as I did in the most recent vinegar making video: th-cam.com/video/XQ2O-pt1EVs/w-d-xo.html

    They are great candied, and taste better than most commercial candies. I think the candied peels would be good to mince fine and mix in buns or breads, but haven't tried that yet. I am finding that most storebought stuff now has things in it that nobody should be consuming at all. So all should be eating old foods we have stored..if poss.

    I chop the skin, ferment with salt and then make an Indian pickle with it, my family loves it.. I use dried peels in tea and powder them to add to bath salts.. When we find bulk organic citrus, we can the juice, whatever pulp is left, we dehydrate them, the powder of the pulp goes into our homemade bath powder.. It is very pretty to decorate homemade candles with chopped citrus peels, I make dry flower bouquet, sometimes add dried citrus peal around them for that pop of colour.. :)

    Heidi, I also make orange peel flavouring. Before I use an orange, I always soak it in a combination of water with a few tablespoons of Baking Soda. This has been proven to remove a percentage of any pesticides on the surface.

    One of my favorite ways to use fresh lemon peel is to add them to Ceasar salad ❣️ I cut them into tiny pieces.
    I also used dried lemon peel for tea 😋 I like bitter however I do add a little honey and sometimes I steep with a bit of fresh ginger as well. ❣️

    I have a quart jar of dried orange peels, that I plan on making a child safe cough syrup. I am going to use food safe glycerin and still deciding what other herbs I have that I can use. I also have a small cube silicone tray that I can use if I decide to make gummies. With the garden coming in, that’s just something on the back burner for now. Thanks for the information, it just reminded me this is something I need to get started.
    Shalom!

    Citrus peels. I have a gallon of FDA approved limonene. I bought it to dissolve 3D printed supports, but it's so much more useful as a cleaner and I mixed it with beeswax and linseed oil for the woodwork. It also smells like 10,000 oranges stuffed up your nose when you smell the bottle, which is fun.

They also make great firestarters in the winter, because of the oil content... especially for camping, as when dried, they are lightweight. They burn well, so take care!! All of the organic citrus available to me has packaging that states the fruit is coated with a wax. It doesn’t specify what kind of wax, and because the words themselves were printed in such a way against the clear wrapping that I actually didn’t notice it the first few times I purchased it,
    I’m inclined to suspect it’s not the greatest quality/healthiest wax, though I have no way of knowing for sure.
    This is frustrating me as I would love to make use of the peels for tea, candies and some of the other methods you describe in your videos.
    How do you guys deal with this wax? Do you have a method for removing it or do you have access to citrus not covered in this wax?

    What is the best way to save and keep the peels fresh until you dehydrate them?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      You can freeze or refrigerate but I simply toss them onto my trays with whatever else I am dehydrating. Most of this is done in the winter anyway so I put them on my rack that is always by the wood stove

    • @CherylAnderson327
      @CherylAnderson327 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Wash, rip or cut into smaller 1 inch Pieces leave them out on a paper towel and they’ll start drying. Quite often I don’t even put them in the dehydrator. I just dry them on the counter. When they are snap dry put them into a jar.
