As a guy, I really enjoyed reading the Adventures of Amina al-Sarifi minus the Demon romance, this book got me interested in reading the authors other works. It was refreshing and easy to follow pirate adventure and I loved that it was not a typical European fantasy background as well. Also, Anything about the Cosmere by Brandon Sanderson is awesome to me so I loved reading Dawnshard a few years ago.

I loved The Grief of Stones, so happy you liked it as well!! Lol you were so frustrated with the preface of Amina Al-Sirafi, I had to go reread it to see how bad it was 😂

Haha yeah I just reread it to see if I was maybe overreacting... maybe but it is quite an annoying preface

I will give Amina Al Sarafi credit for having a middle-aged mother as the main character. Usually, it's grizzled washed up warrior guys when we get into this age group and archetype. However, I was waaaaay more interested in the story of her youthful adventures than anything going on in the actual plot of the book.

With Amina, the preface very much sounds like the author doesn't trust their own skills at getting the message across without Pre-warning us.
'this was one of the strangest books I ever read' - I'll take it 😂 on a reread I really like how Tippy shows us that sometimes we have to work on being our best selves and it's ok that our instincts aren't always to make the right choice. Sometimes we have to choose not to headbutt everyone even if it would be the easiest(most satisfying?) option.

Thank you so much for recommending Imaginary Corpse to me! It was certainly an interesting book

🦩It sounds like a fun side premise of The Invisible Corpse: somebody committed to acting kindly, even though it's against his nature 🕺
