Your videos are magnificent in-depth love the e series cars I'm 59 years old ford for life searching for a ef el xr6 or Fairmont ghia in cardinal red ive tried to restore a nl Fairlane ghia 6 cylinder head dropped a valve ended up selling it for parts i dont have mechanic experience with this also health against me now so next car i buy will be one thats had the work done cheers champ
Thanks mate, much appreciated!! I'm trying to cover things in as much detail as possible, but hopefully it's not too boring😂. If any of these videos come in handy for someone looking at doing something similar themselves, I'm happy! Stay on the hunt! Surely a nice, well looked after, cardinal red EF/EL will come your way!! They definitely are a nice car to drive. I drive a BA/BF daily and it's a pleasure to jump back into an E-series everytime i get the chance
Cheers mate!! Will definitely be bringing some more E-series content to the channel soon. Stoked to see the E-series still have such a strong following🤘🏻🤘🏻
Early 2000, I helped a mate build a blown Silver EL Falcon. Wasn't much around at the time performance parts- wise, so he imported an early Turbine style blower from the States, and we hand milled brackets, made a tensioner system, fitted a Crow towing cam, and had to figure out how to get the whole efi system working happily with everything; injectors we're sourced from Ford Motorsport USA. Was frustrating at times, but great fun; that Silver bullet ended up knocking out a lazy 298rwkw through a modded auto. That thing held its own against the new to Oz JDM import scene
Wow!! That would have been an epic build in the early 2000's. Sounds like that EL Falcon would have been a tuff car, 298rwkw is a damn impressive amount of power, would have felt pretty quick with the auto box too!! I only got into the E-series scene in 2008 when i got my first EF Fairmont, back then there was a few turbo'd and supercharged 4.0's getting around but majority of the modded ones were just the typical street N/A builds. It's great nowadays there is a bit more of an 'aftermarket' selection of parts.
Keep up the great work mate, love your videos and as an E series fan Its nice to see some kiwi youtube channels with great content - just finished my EF Ghia turbo barra build and would love to see some more content on your turbo ride!! Will be keeping an eye out for you on the street.
Cheers brother, much appreciated! I probably should have jumped on TH-cam and started vlogging my builds from the start, but we're here now! Hopefully my EF turbo will make an appearance soon on this channel before it gets a refresh this year🤞🏻😅 Awesome to hear of more turbo E-series Fords getting around, yours sounds like a mean build! Turbo SOHC or Barra turbo swapped, they make an E-series so much more fun👍🏻
This is probably the best e series content ive seen.prety sure ive seen this car on one of the facebook pages.ive just put a tickford head on my eb fairmont.ive got a stage 3 crow cam for it but i was a bit put off using it because i didnt know were to get it tuned.the head that i bought had a little bit of work done nothing major ef xr6 head, but what was interesting was the cam it had.it was a 3.9 87da ea cam any thoughs on the combo.
Thanks bro, much appreciated!! This EL probably has done the rounds on Facebook haha, I don't use FB for anything other than marketplace so not sure where it might have popped up😅 The stage 3 crow cam is still fairly mild so tuning shouldn't be too much of a headache. It definitely needed some fuel trimmed from idle rpm's, base idle speed lifted slightly and some timing adjustments to get it running decent, this was in an EL XR6. I have heard of the EA 3.9 cfi cam being a popular swap into the 4.0's. Not sure on spec's, but it's comparable to a mild street cam from what I've read. Is your EB all up and running right now? Or still deciding on which cam to go with?
Love your work cool video bring on the e series falcons.. I’ve got a xh xr6 Ute with a xr AU intech running on xh bolt ons mace 12 mill intake spacer with dizzy and manual el ECU with t5 cut sump with xh xr diff 3.45.1 lsd I want to get rid of the el dizzy and run EF coil pack I’ve pulled out the dash brought a whole EF wiring looms and found a manual EF ecu hopefully I can put it all together and make it work after it’s running and dash is back in I want to cam it halltec it and LS coil it has 4480s and modified exhaust turbo on the red intech au donk working properly is my goal
i’m looking to do the same on my xh but do you think i should get the cam gear they recommend or just valve springs, cam and j3 also currently have the motor in pieces but i pulled the timing cover off and didn’t even think about the tensioner, but i’m only just realising the tensioner was already locked in the “off” position i guess so im surprised if it didn’t have tension on the chain
@WNKFACTR definitely get the vernier cam gear and valve springs to go with the cam, it'll give you the adjustment to dial the cam in perfectly or at least tweak the cam timing to shift the powerband of the cam up or down a couple hundred RPM. I would have done the cam gear when i did this cam swap, but funds were low at the time😅
I’m sorta new to this stuff, when I torque down those cam cat bolts on the rocker, how much am I meant to torque them down by? Rn me and my friend have gone with about 25 ft pounds, but I feel like that’s to much.
Pretty sure the factory spec is 20-25nm, so 25ft lb's (around 33nm) would be a bit too much for sure! Generally, i do mine up with my 3/8" drive torque wrench which has a lowest setting of just a touch over 20nm, so I just set it as low as possible. It's very easy to overtighten and strip the threads out of the head so definitely be on the safe side and stick to 20nm I'd say.
Cheers mate!!🍻 You don't absolutely have to rotate the engine over to TDC, but i usually do it anyway. I find it's good to put things in line so you can double-check nothing has moved during the cam swap process (e.g timing chain jumping a tooth)
Scored that cam on Facebook Marketplace hahaha, it was originally bought through T.I Performance though. They sell all the Crow Cam products and J3 tuning gear etc👍🏻
Stock exhaust is long gone on this car. It's running Pacemaker 4499 headers, 2.5" mandrel bent piping, 1x straight thru bullet resonator and 1x muffler before the diff. From memory, the stock exhaust I pulled off it years ago had the big stock catalytic converter, small muffler up front, big muffler before the diff and a 3rd muffler in the tailpipe section with 2.25" press bent piping. It used to be almost silent😅 Power wise, it would be making bugger all right now to be honest. Until it's tuned properly, i won't know for sure, but I'd estimate around the 150rwkw mark. The cam wants more compression and the head could do with some porting to get some more cfm flowing through it. I'd say 160rwkw should be achieveable with the right head combo. Keeping in mind the auto trans will be sucking up a lot of power.
@@Late-Night-Nate oh right I have a set of 4499s in my au xr and 44980s I think in my xg didn’t realise it was swapped already because u still have the stock sheild wich is uncommon, a lot of people try to show off pacemakers, I honestly thought the cam and tune was what was giving it that sound, I’m trying to learn about sohc 6 internals I want to do a turbo build xr and decent power built na motor for xg, atm all I’ve done is head studs and maintenance but plan on a hot cam, this video is really helpful, especially considering I’m a 17 year old dumbass that doesn’t know shit about motors, cheers mate if shout ya a slab if I knew ya irl
Pretty much the same process. I'm not 100% sure if the later model XH got the 'hybrid' head which the later EL's and AU's got (they have a different cam to suit the different valvetrain setup), but either way the process is the same👍🏻
Sorry about the late reply dude! The cam i used in this video was bought second hand, but originally from T.i Performance. They sell different camshaft options, upgraded valve springs, the J3 chip and programmer etc. Everything is available on their website. www.tiperformance.com.au/products/crow-cams-ea-el-falcon-4l-stage-4-camshaft-2221514/
Pacemaker 4499 headers, no cat, 2.5" mandrel bent piping, 1x bullet resonator after the headers and then 1x flowmaster style 2 chamber muffler just before the diff👍🏻
Already done the spring upgrade when the head came off for reconditioning about 4 years ago. Just went with a heavy duty drop-in valve spring, didnt bother with double's. Might upgrade to those later once the head comes off for porting.
Hey man, I'm based out in East Akl, so not too far away from you. I can probably suss you a base tune to get you started. I wouldn't exactly call it a proper tune unless it was on a dyno with sensors to monitor air/fuel mixture and detonation/knock, it's all guess work without that info tbh. Flick me some details anyways and we can sort something out, email is nwt351@gmail.com 👍🏻
Hey man, where you based? What cam you looking at running and what's done to your AU so far? Hard to put a price on it because some cam swaps require a bit more than just dropping the cam in. Some require valve spring upgrades and a tune to get it to run depending on how aggressive the cam is. Preferably, you would want to free up the air intake setup, do a good set of headers/extractors and a free flowing exhaust system to get it breathing better first before the cam swap
@mattyedwards1105 oh nice! Those VCT motors are a good base. Not 100% sure how things work with upgrading the cam though (the VCT will affect the way the cam works so will either need a way of locking the cam gear or replacing it with a non-VCT or vernier adjustable cam gear) Might be best to check in with T.I Performance and see what's required to get a cam upgrade to work. Tuning side of things will also need to be looked into.

@Late-Night-Nate yeah bro still deciding on cam.when I decide what I'm doing ican finish assembly and get the engine back in the car.
Your lifter shim installation tool is proof that you are E-Series OG. Love your work!
Thanks mate! I always knew those kick panel clips/pins would come in handy for something☝🏼😂😂😂
8:15 my heart sank when the bro dropped it lmfao
Mine did also, haha. Let's just say I may have lost a lifter and/or shim a couple of times before when doing cam swaps 🤣🤣🤣
Great video mate.
Choppy cam, sounds great.
Cheers mate!! Hopefully it doesn't lose too much of it's chop at idle once it's tuned properly
Thankyou bro. Just scored an au. Im up in kerikeri .
don't even own a e series but watched the whole thing awesome vid bro

Hi bro how ya gonna I like your ghis mad mate and the red XR6 awesome wheels too
Wicked video mate installing mine in my xg next week
Good stuff mate!! Get ready for the beautiful idle note, it really does make the old 6 banger sound tuff!👌🏼
Also just a tip you can usually hear a light tapping when the lifters are on the way out, (I know this cause I’ve had an xg for 18 years)
Just found ya channel an subscribed bro. Bulk love for the love of cars ❤

No such thing as too much money on an E-series apparently, all they're good for is taking all your savings🤣🤣🤣
what torque converter you running?
Still the stock one for now. Really needs a hi-stall converter around 2600-2800rpm to get it up in the powerband of the cam
