The thing is - DNF was never going to live up to all those years of expectations, even if it ended up being a masterpiece. But personally - i enjoyed the the game for what it is, and i never considered it to be that bad. Also, hot take: i think that Gearbox deserves a little praise for coming in and saving the game's development and finally getting it out the door. Although the way that they handled the Duke Nukem IP following Forever's release is really bad, and unless someone buys the IP from them - there's no way that Duke is coming back anytime soon, since Gearbox is clearly not interested in making any new Duke games.
The pc version let's you carry 4 weapons at once on the official patch! Or you can get a fan mod that let's you carry all weapons like duke 3d. I loved DNF when it came out in 2011 and still do now! Great review buddy.
No, it's pretty fun. I'm replaying the campaign for the third time. I loved the OG platformers (Duke 1 and 2) and 3D was a masterpiece. DNF is a solid game with fun elements, it's not as good as 3D though it hardly set out to reinvent the wheel in the end. It's like a solid Duke Burger, it's cheap, it's dirty and nasty (in all the best ways) but damn it's good. Got to be honest, I don't agree with your assessment of the arsenal. D3D's weaponry is iconic and damn awesome, Forever's is a bit weak, especially the Shotgun.I personally prefer the labyrinthine level design of old school FPS games over the more directed experiences popular when Forever was released. Having said that, I love the driving segments which most people hated and Forever's sense of pure entertainment was a breath of fresh air. There's also a ton of wonderful fan service dating back to the original games which is a nice touch (without feeling cheap IMO).
Duke Nukem Forever was great and i enjoyed it back in time when it first came out. I honestly i dont understand the critism and the whine about it since it is what it was supposed to be. A duke nukem game with dirty humor and goofy action...
I remember hanging around the 3drealms forums when they started development. They posted asking us what we wanted to see in the game. I got the impression they weren't really sure what they wanted to do with it. That opinion hasn't changed.
Yeah the games development was a mess. I mean it started as a 2D side scroller, became an FPS, saw multiple different engine changes and developers. Such a chaotic cycle.
I don’t think it’s a “terrible” game, but the fact it’s basically pieces of multiple canceled games sewn back together wrong is pretty obvious in spots. What could’ve been groundbreaking was reduced to “meh” by death of a million papercuts.
I think games that have a decade or more long development cycles are more prone to having technical problems. Most likely because they are developed across numerous eras and using multiple engines. So many concepts get thrown out and changed. Its usually games that have a more consistent and shorter development that work out for the better.
I loved this game and everything you say is just the same opinion as mine I think one other reason the game did kinda bad as well is that I remember it being pretty short and the time it released as well it had to contend with other gameing titans like gears 3 as you said just an unlucky release but I still enjoy the game and still go back too it now and again
I enjoyed this game but not as much as 3D. I've been playing Duke since the 2D games. t And there are lots of widely disliked games I enjoyed. Final Fantasy II and VIII are among my favorites, I enjoyed Mass Effect: Andromeda, and I liked Homefront the Revolution even if it wasn't everything I hoped for. I also think the Saints Row reboot is fun even though i think it is either the worst or second worst game in the series and I enjoyed Agents of Mayhem as well.

I agree. If truth be told I am perfectly fine with the franchise ending. I think way too many franchises get milked way beyond their prime.
It's not as bad as many said, and it's not perfect, but it certainly was a mostly good time.
@@Deadforge I agree.

Thanks bro. I would like to check out the PC version one day. I have only ever played the Xbox 360 version.
There's no legitimate reason imo that every version wasn't patched this way.
Anyone who says Duke Nukem Forever is the worst game ever made needs to be physically forced to play Action 52 and Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing.
Never played Big Rigs personally but seen some pretty funny reviews of it lol.
I like Duke Nukem Forever
Same here.

Yeah Duke games were always like that in terms of their overall humour and tone.

It certainly could have been a lot better.
Finally someone who also likes DN4ver!
Now we are 3! :V
We are few in number but we do exist lol.
Its not great. Especially for a game that was in development for so long.
But i did enjoy it.

Who's to say it was. You think they have been coding this for all those years. It's not FFXV

True the game had a lot of competition coming out in 2011. My personal opinion the greatest year in gaming history. For these kinds of games at least.
@@nordicwarriorgaming4953 100% agree
I've always been hesitant to try this game out given it's negative reputation.
Its better than Postal 3 and maybe Hunt Down The Freeman

I agree the DLC was very underrated.

I never got to play it but it seemed ok. From what I can tell there is a weapon limit of two and I think that might be my biggest gripe.
Yeah the 2 weapon limit was a huge mistake.
Haven't watched the video, but yes its trash. But also Duke is Duke so i can let it slide for a few more decades 😂
I find it annoying that a joke that is sexual in nature is automatically "immature".
Sex jokes are very mature!
Good point.
They say that and they're probably family guy fans so what they take for humor is dumb because humor also subjective
