Since I had to edit the original Rogue One footage quite a lot to upload it to TH-cam, I have uploaded a copyright-free version for all my Patreons, so you can enjoy the content without all the grain, pitch shifts, extra cuts, and filters on top of the movie footage.
I would give access to my channel members as well, but unfortunately, I cannot upload this version to TH-cam since the movie will get blocked immediately. Therefore the 'Ally' tier on my Patreons (€1,-) can get access to this version as well :)
There is also the FULL 3-hour reaction video up for my Club Tropicana Patreons.

Hope you will enjoy and have a Happy New Year.

Kim, You are right about the Imperial commander who stood up to Vader (& ordered the destruction of Princess Leia's planet) being the same character, Grand Moff "Governor"Tarkin, in A New Hope, seen in this movie at the 18:00 minute mark. Interestingly even though the actor who played him in a New Hope passed away in 1994, a plaster cast of his face was made in 1984 for another movie and his family gave permission to use it as the pattern for mapping his face on top of the new actor playing the character. The same technique was used to map Carrie Fischer's face to the actress playing her, but she was still alive at the time and approved the request herself, to recreate a young Princess Leia for the end of the movie.

What I especially love about Rogue One is how believable it takes place in the same universe as the original trilogy. They did a fantastic job recreating the same aesthetic and production design while also updating it with methods that weren't as readily available then. It really shows with your reaction especially as the way you edited the footage makes it feel like it was made around the same time the original trilogy was made.

Oh yes, it has that gritty, lived in feel of the OT. The prequels (and sequels, but I hardly think about those as a die hard Star Wars fan) all look fresh and clean and brand new. I assume that was intentional in the prequels, as a full scale galactic war hadn't broke out yet and ships and stuff weren't all patched together with spare parts yet. Rogue One looks like you'd get tetanus from scraping your leg on a ships hull, and I'm all for it!

@@stigkenobi7525 Lucas' fims stopped being Star Wars when he was forces to rush out Return of the Jedi. After that it was all a merchandising cash grab. Rogue One is more Star Wars than any of the prequels. I will forever be grateful for what George originally created but he lost sight of his original vision and purpose. Then more so in the mid 90s when he went back and ruined the Original Trilogy by adding bad, dumb, extra CGI scenes. Disney didn't ruin Star Wars, George Lucas had already accomplished that feat in 1999 with the prequel trilogy. Then, just a few years later he did the same with Indiana Jones. He's not singular in this though as Peter Jackson did something similar when he made the Hobbit Trilogy, borrowing from the exact blueprint that George used.

i'm so glad they had Chirrut in this story. he's a good representation of the fact that there are many older traditions that use the Force beyond just Jedi and Sith. most of them were wiped out by the many wars between the two primary philosophies that generally follow the Dark or Light sides. the earliest concepts of the Jedi were inspired by Eastern "morality warriors" like samurai, who also often followed a hierarchical leadership (usually serving a single master seen as noble). Chirrut represents something different, though - a more natural or personal relationship with the Force more like ascetic monks. Some people group "everyone in between" as "grey jedi", but that term doesn't work across the board for me. I think Chirrut practices Teras Kasi, a martial art form likely older than the Jedi Council and lightsabers, and may be a part of an old monastic sect. I think it's worth comparing and contrasting him with Qui-Gon Jinn, who was certainly a Jedi, but also had a stronger personal connection with the living Force and believed it to be a stronger guide than the Jedi Council at times (I wouldn't call him a grey Jedi either, except perhaps very Light-grey).

Tony Gilroy didn’t “save” anything. There were late on script changes that were decided on once a directors cut was made… designed to streamline the original script and simplify areas of the film… mostly handled in post production, altered later scenes with heavy CGI mixed with pre existing Gareth Edwards’s shot footage.

This movie is, in every way, my favorite Star Wars movie. Like, I get that the Jedi are major actors on the galactic stage, but I've... honestly always enjoyed the stories of the non-force users. If anything, they've got more compelling stories, because they don't have the force to guide them along. They're just... everyday people doing the best they can. Still, as much as the movie made you cry as characters were dying in the end, the novelization is even more of a gut-punch. Each character's final scene is from their internal, first-person perspective. K-2SO has his internal diagnostics running in the background as he's constantly calculating the probabilities. So, he's having to re-route functionality through different systems as he takes damage, all while working to keep Jyn and Cassian's odds of success the highest he can. And then Chirrut... as he's processing what he can tell about his surroundings, you constantly get his "I am one with the force, the force is with me" mantra repeated throughout the passage. Such... beautiful, heartbreaking sacrifices. All for the sake of hope.

As a bridge from III to IV this worked perfectly, and as a prequel it gave us setup without any bullshit or frivolous sidetracks, unlike the previous ones. It was far more masterful storytelling. Out of all the deaths, K-2SO was the most emotional. Even as he was on his last knees, he still held on long enough to help his friends achieve their goal.
My favorite characters overall were Chirrut Îmwe and Bodhi Rook. The Ip Man himself Donnie Yen is always a win. I also teared up as Chirrut in his dying words told his friend Baze Malbus to find him in the Force.
Chirrut isn’t a Jedi, but it’s implied that he’s Force-sensitive. He was able to sense Jyn’s kyber crystal. What’s special about kyber crystals is that they’re connected to the Force. They’re also what give power to the lightsabers.
Also, Chirrut gets the funniest moment in the entire movie when they bagged him.
Diego Luna reprised his role as Cassian Andor for the Spanish dub. He also has his own series titled Andor which takes place five years before the events of Rogue One. Yeah, he also dubbed for that show.
The first season has 12 episodes. A second season is in the works, but the recent strikes have delayed production. There were also plans to make up to five seasons, but after some extensive reviewing they decided to conclude the show with season two.

Notice there’s a scene as the Fleet is about to launch. They’re going to fight after all, as Act Three kicks into gear… Mon Mothma and the adopted father of Leia talk. They agree Obi Wan must be able to help. Then he tells Mothma, “I would trust HER with my life.”

This is one of my favorite Star Wars movies as well, definitely my favorite of the modern era. It adds some real depth to the universe -- it isn't all high-minded Jedi and cartoonishly evil Sith. The CGI bringing back actors who were either dead (like Peter Cushing, Grand Moff Tarkin) or just not that young any more (like Carrie Fisher at the time) got a lot of hate for falling into the uncanny valley, but I was prepared to live with that. It does raise current concerns about AI actor replacement -- I hope the actors (or their estates) received appropriate compensation for the use of their likenesses. In any case, it's the emotional core of the movie, the characters' journeys that really hit home and make the line from the original trilogy "Many Bothans died to bring us this information" take on a whole new level of depth.
    Pleasure to watch as always!

Rogue One is easily the best Star Wars movie since the originals were first released. Having so many named characters we all cared about, die... it really flushed out the drama and horror in a way most of the others never did. This movie also ties modern themes into the story of how the princess got the death star plans... tying together the old and the new in a really seemless way. Maybe I’m just a sucker for a good tragedy, but R1 is easily in my top 3 SW films alongside ROTJ, ROTS, and ESB. Also, gotta give the score some credit. K2 is one of the best droid characters, loved how they recreated the feel of a 1970s sci fi movie, the various Easter Eggs (i.e., a certain war criminal droid grumbling in the background of the Rebel Base), the cinematography/sense of scale, the Battle of Scarif, Michael Giacchino's scenes, both of Vader's scenes and the gutsy decision to kill off the entire group of main characters (and yet their sacrifice made Luke, Leia's, etc. victory at Yavin and beyond worth it).

Peter Cushing (the man who played Tarkin in ANH) passed in 1994. So it's CGI on a body double, with voice actor Stephen Stanton (who voices Tarkin in Clone Wars and other media) doing the voice.

This movie has arguably the best third act out of any Star Wars movie ever, which is a massive testament due to how incredibly tragic was the ending of Revenge of the Sith, and climactic third acts like Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. This movie really FEELS like a Star Wars movie, and much more gritty and down to earth than most of the other in the Skywalker saga. It feels almost like the heroes of this movie have absolutely no chance in defeating the empire, no Jedi, no lightsabers or magic force wielders, just a band of regular people ready to fight until the last breath, against what seems to be an unstoppable force. The final sequence with Darth Vader is a perfect metaphor for the entire movie, a bunch of nobodies with no powers facing their ultimate demise against an absolutely terrifying monster like Darth Vader

Fun fact: Diego Luna (who plays Cassian Andor) brought his father to the premier of the film. I honestly love that there’s no romance sub-ploy. When Jinn and Cassian are watching the well of death approach, and Cassian tells her that her father would be proud. They hug in the last moment, but it’s just two people, about to die and they know it, and they don’t want to die alone. That’s just simple human contact. They don’t kiss. And through the whole movie the only romantic interaction is Jinn’s parents. And even that is them being a team to raise their child. Dad doesn’t even react to seeing his wife murdered right in front of him.

It is still underrated and the bigegst problem with all of disney starwars. because no matter if you are a defender of the sequels or a hater the fact is that NONE of the sequels was better than Rogue One was. most importantly better at being starwars. the emotions the message and the all the feeling starwars CAN be and EVOLVE to, was in Rogue One. where was that in 7-9 ? the problem to me never was that they didn't do Legends, because Rogue One shows that doing something new with starwars can still BE STARWARS. If 7-9 would've been more a new way of starwars the way Rogue One was "a new and different Starwars" waaaaay less people would have felt betrayed or have so much hate for the sequels. Cause even if you say the sequels were not bad, they were 100% not the best they could do. and THAT is what hurts about them more than anything else. the wasted potential and seeing they could have done better, they didn't want to.

@@PickledShark while I tend to agree, my point was more about why that hurt even more since RO is a proof that it wasn't just not possible. it was, just not for the "Main Story" it seems. and I personally agree with you, but I believe even the people that didn't feel bad about the sequels can agree that they were not THE BEST POSSIBLE. so I figured in the end we are still actually all starwars fans and should be able to agree on some basic points right ?
I actually envy people seeing "luke" and going "oh wow what an inspired and novel way to show how morally erroded and broken by his fear of being a cause of evil this serious and deeply complex character, that is a beloved hero of millions of people with a long and detailed journey of strive and the overcoming of pain in legends, is. I am moved and immersed by how he dicards the symbol of his father's sacrifice"
simply because I wish I could enjoy any part of it. but I can't. especially since they showed it could have had very good and subtle dialouge.... unlike "somehow (cringes as a talented actor) - - - has returned"

The reason they CGI'd Tarkin's face is because the original actor Peter Cushing passed away in the early 90s (i believe, bit sketchy on the date). It created a whole conversation about whether it's ethical to resurrect dead actors. This was only exacerbated by Carrie Fisher's death as they used CGI to re-create younger Leia. Fun fact - Peter Cushing played a version of the Doctor in two theatrical movies in the 60s. They were not canon to the main tv show for ages but in the novelisation of day of the doctor, its stated that the films were made with the help of the doctor and UNIT had to investigate "when dead actors started re-appearing in new movies" which is directly referencing the 'resurrection' of Peter Cushing for Rogue One

Reason Vader sounds different is because it was done by JEJ himself at the time of the film and he sounds older. In Kenobi it is done by an AI using his voice with his permission and sounds younger as they can splice it with OT Vader sounds to get the effect.
