    I'm gonna say I appreciate you pausing to talk out your thoughts! So many reactors just talk straight over the movie and miss a lot of stuff and it drives me nuuuuuts!
    Also I think you're hilarious and delightful 😊

    • @Raivo_K
      @Raivo_K ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I can handle when reactors do it in a movie or a TV show because these are non-interactive mediums that can be rewinded. It's much worse when a game streamer has chat up constantly and then tries to balance game/chat and thus missing crucial context. For example one streamer managed to get Wrex killed on Virmire and then blamed Ashley.
      Then told me to stop backseating in the first ME2 stream because i said that in ME2 loyalty missions and ship upgrades are very important for the final mission. I would have not said that had i not seen what happened to Wrex.

    • @disconnexionsdotcom
      @disconnexionsdotcom ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think more reactors don't do it because it's harder to edit. Most reactors will only record their part and the editor has to sync the movie to their video and edit from there. Looks like she is recording both the movie at the same time (in OBS?) as her video which is easier to work with as far as editing.

    • @pduidesign
      @pduidesign ปีที่แล้ว +8

      SO TRUE!! It annoys me when reactors talk over important scenes and dialogue and don’t pause to do it. Good job!!

    • @yepyep2137
      @yepyep2137 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@disconnexionsdotcom No they don't pause because they are full length reactions for Patreon, edited down for TH-cam videos. They countdown and synchronise at the start for people watching along, once it starts they can't start pausing it. Kim Ellendale can pause it because she's making this purely for a TH-cam video.

      @@michaely6665 While I agree release order is probably best order, an argument could be made for 4,5 - 1,2,3 - 6. Luke's story until *the* reveal, then Anakin story, but keeping 6 at the end for [SPOILER] which can be very cathartic especially after 3's [SPOILER].

    Yes, I'd love to see your reactions to the original trilogy at least. The crash course in the beginnings of the franchise. I would recommend the prequel trilogy, Rogue One, and a few of the TV shows too, but you don't have to take the time to react to them for us if you don't want. I know you're pressed for time, and I don't want you to burn out. (I do NOT recommend the sequel trilogy.)

    21:08 Mark Hamill, the guy who played Luke said that he convinced George Lukas to let him be a bit cheesier in the first movie. Hamill says he _hates_ the way he did that line because it was so whinny but that was on purpose. He wanted to stress Luke's growth as a person by making him a bit childish in the beginning. Bonus fact, Mark Hamill is also the voice of the Joker in the 90's Batman cartoon as well as Firelord Ozai in Avatar The Last Airbender.

    So, now that Kim is on her way to becoming a Star Wars fan, how long until we get her to play "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic"?

    Yours is definitely the most energetic reaction video I have seen to this movie (and I have seen MANY). With the way you were swooning for the droids and then Luke, I fully expected your jaw to drop upon seeing Han, and you literally did exactly that. Absolutely perfect! You have questions, you want more, watch the next one...and the next...and then go to the prequels for the full (enough) backstories. If you know as little as you say, it won't spoil what is ahead and you can enjoy the journey the same way I did. I will suggest, without any spoilers, that you will go bonkers over the next one (The Empire Strikes Back). It is my favorite and will be exciting and satisfying for you.
    The giant lizard, Jabba, the gratuitous droid and animal shenanigans in Mos Eisley were added in 1997 by way of new CGI. Oh, and in the original Greedo never got a shot - Han shot him before he got around to it. Greedo shooting first so Han could have a "self defense" excuse was added in 97 to take his rough edges off. Stupid move. Han was perfect in 77.
    The lightsaber duel was a restrained affair because they used fragile practical props that broke a lot. The best they could do for VFX back then was rotoscoping and adding some light effects in post. The prequels are much more dramatic because they had 20 years to improve their film making in that area.
    By the way, Governor Tarkin (the guy holding Vader's leash) was played by Peter Cushing. He was a mega-star from earlier days - I will not even attempt to list his credits, but he played many badass characters and portrayed Tarkin with understated villainy. He and Alec Guinness brought established star power to this film, and it showed in every scene.
    Looking forward to the next post.

    The material used for the light sabers were so fragile that it kept breaking and they didn't know how the special effects would turn out.
    Many effects we today take for granted was invented when making this movie.
    They had no CGI.
    It was all practical effects and models using stop motion.
    In the nineties George Lucas did add some CGI scenes, like the city panorama scenes just when they arrived at Mos Eisley and a few other short scenes.

    Some fun Star Wars facts for you. (In no particular order.} The theatrical version from 1977 did not have any CGI because it didn't exist yet. It was all models, makeup, and film effects done the hard way. With giant models by driving by them filming while blowing them up. And if they messed up they had to rebuild everything and do it again.
    In fact there are a lot of changes from the original theatrical release. For example the text scrolling at the start starts of with just Star Wars and had a simpler content after that. And there are few scenes missing because special effects weren't good enough yet.
    When the storm troopers entered the control room where C3PO and R2-D2 were hiding one of the troopers hits his head on the door.
    R2-D2's name came from movie filming language. It stands for Reel 2 disc 2. There's more but this is good enough for a start.
    Now I'm waiting for your reaction to the next one. The Empire Strikes Back

    "How does the lightsaber work?"
    Yes, it is a laser beam, it does cauterize limb wounds upon contact, but since this was the first ever Star Wars (and it wasn't planned as anything other than a quick sci-fi film) they were still working out the details.
    Also, if you want more Harrison Ford, others have mentioned the Indiana Jones series (I recommend as well) but, Blade Runner (the Final Cut if possible).

    You know something funny? Bioware, the guys who made Mass Effect, worked and made Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. Biotics are based on force powers. Asari are based on the twileks, and the renegade and paragon options are light and dark side.
    Also, there's like 4 people who play Darth Vader: David Prowse, a body builder for his height and menace, Bob Anderson for the swordsmanship, James Earl Jones for the voice, and Sébastien Shaw for Return of the Jedi

    • @garyballard179
      @garyballard179 ปีที่แล้ว

      Biotics are based on technology and science, not magic (unless you want to discuss midichlorians).
      The Asari are based on aquatic invertebrates, though early concepts were drawn from Dune and Babylon 5.
      Paragon and Renegade were an attempt to move away from the binary light and dark system, though it took three games to perfect it. They're based on the Lawful/Chaotic moral alignments.

    • @Soveliss74

    Opening battle: Since Disney bought Lucasfilm, Leia is officially a Disney princess.
    9:00 - The desert planet is Tattooine. The scenes were filmed in the Tunisian desert, where a nearby city is named "Tataouine". Scriptwriter was lazy that day.
    9:29 - Anthony Daniels played C3-PO and Kenny Baker played R2-D2. For some scenes R2 was motorized and remote controlled. I got to meet Daniels once at a convention. He wasn't mobbed like other stars because you never see his face in these films.
    9:52 - Tattooine is modeled on Arrakis in the novel Dune (1965). It has sandworms, moisture farmers, and is ruled by an empire.
    12:40 - It actually was a trash can. The first Star Wars film had a relatively low budget, and had to save money where they could.
    15:38 - It is a galaxy-spanning empire, with many planets and languages. A droid (android) like C3-PO is used to translate between peoples and various machines. R2-D2 is a repair droid originally, and can interface with hardware more directly. (insert innuendo here).
    32:55 - The street creatures are CGI and were added in an updated version of the film. Originally it was just buildings and people.
    36:00 - That's a young Harrison Ford as the pilot of the Falcon, Yes, he was a hearthrob in these and the Indiana Jones films.
    49:17 - In the Star Wars galaxy they are smart enough to travel between stars and blow up planets, but nobody ever thought of safety railings. 🙂
    51:25 - There was no CGI in 1977, computers weren't fast enough. Any of it you see in this trilogy was added later in an updated edition. Tron (1982) was the first one to use it, and it was pretty crude by modern standards.

    Around the time this film came out, not too many of the actors in this were really considered to be big names in film. The most recognizable at the time was perhaps Alec Guinness, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi. He actually received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for this. Also, though Harrison Ford (Han Solo) had previously worked with George Lucas on "American Graffiti" a few years prior, he had a smaller role in that.
