At the 1:45 mark, would it be wise to put tape over the opening on the pump in order to keep any plastic pieces from falling in?
Where did you get the new unions?
I did something similar for a salt cell install. A glue gun to soften it can be helpful too
Awesome video. @Steve any chance you have the product name or link of the black piece that glued on? I want to see if I can get that for my pipe size and pump as I have a 1.5HP Pentair Superflo pump on 2inch pipe. Thanks.
For Jandy there is a unique part for their pumps. For the super flow I think it’s generic. Here is the Amazon product that we most often use for the Pentair pumps.

What cement/glue should be used for the new connection?
Just regular pvc cement.
Will this work if glued with blue glue? Just harder to get old collar off?
Blue glue on a different level. When we see blue glue, the procedure is a little different. We cut many slots in the pvc connector we are trying to remove. One every 1/4” all the war around the fitting. A dremel with a 3/8 cutting wheel works great for this. These smaller sections will usually pop off fairly easily when tapped with a screwdriver and mallet. Then a quick sand with the dremel and a flap disc sanding bit.
