It's definitely crazy how much that place has changed over the years. But the most prominent change I saw was from visiting in 2016, and then going back in 2019. In the space of three years, the amount of "modern" shite that popped up all over the place, minimal opium, minimal psychos, and minimal everything that made the old Vang Vieng such a bat shit crazy and interesting place!
The good thing is, the beauty of those limestone karsts doesn't change so much. Absolutely stunning!

How's it goin I stayed in a bungalow next to the river on the opposite side you stayed on it was in 2007 ,it was very nice I used to wake up every morning with a view of the mountains and it cost about £2.50p at the time the time the money exchange rate was crazy good,I lived like a king then in 2013 I went back to vang vieng on my bycicle and things were really changing then anyway have a nice day be careful off the secret police lol.

I rarely drink anything alcohol wise these days ( except ) when we go back to Thailand and the BIL who in charge of the local police goes over the bridge in nong Khai and smuggles me a case back in 😂😂 , unfortunately even that as nice as it is has also had some of the alcohol rinsed out of it , I believe it’s down to 6.5% , but for me just 2 of those per evening over the one month period we are there is plenty . Just 24 330 bottles in the one case.

So Vang Vieng Laos use to be the young college kid dropout backpacking hangout where you’d go to get drunk & tube down the river. Problem was… some kids got way too F’d up and you add rope swings into rocky water plus other stupid stuff and many people died. Finally in 2012 the Laos government closed it all down. 12 years later Sean goes back and to his surprise the place has changed 😂😂
it haven't changed that much buddy, 30 people died hear, I was hear, Not googling crap pal, you can still buy all those drugs, you can still go tubing and so on, real life is great buddy, try it sometime and get out your mums basement
