i really want to get a German Shepherd. german shepherds and huskies are my favorite breeds. and ive done alot of research for both breed and id really like to rescue a German Shepherd.
yes! im planning on rescuing one when i can. but i dont know when that will be. im 17 and live with my parents so they have to approve it if i were to get one now sonce im under their roof but we already have my mixed breed and three cats so im not sure how soon id be able to reacue but im definitely planning on get one for my next dog and im planning on a rescue of i find one thay would fit into our home.
+Canine Heart German shepherds are such great breeds. I can't speak for huskies since I never owned one but German shepherds are really intelligent and loyal. They do require a lot of brain stimulation and exercise so make sure you have time to spend with your dog. Good luck! :)

currently I live in a house that doesn’t have a backyard my dogs can go in and I have three dogs, they all know how to go on grass and puppy pads. Peepads are fine to use if you get your dog used to both grass and pee pads
Yes and I wouldn’t recommend a crate either i feel like it’s too small i put mine in my closet it is completely empty expect for a window a light obviously and all of his stuff
Lucy Lu it's essential to wash them etc but not brush them when there hair is short no point in brushing then when they have short hair, might as well just run your fingers through it. but she has a gsd which shed butt loads so while it's not necessary to brush them I'd get one of those rubber brushes and give her a quick brush down with it outside every morning just so she wouldn't get loose hair all over my house.

gsd puppies are known to be mouthy and it's necessary to teach them to not to, they will usually grow out of this but not always so training is necessary

Blue buffalo is very bad. Owned by Purina so just another line of that company. If you are looking for a good kibble then Orijen is just about as good as you can get other than raw. Puppy pads are unnecessary. You need to teach your dog to go outside not in the house on a pad. Very smart of you not liking retractable leashes👍🏼 They are a huge no no because you have no control.
I have a GSD and she was a NIGHTMARE for the first year ( she's high drive and it was rough 🤦🏼♀️ she made me question my sanity ) now she's the best dog I've ever had, but getting through that year was so hard! Your girl seems so calm! Way to go

You should never put your dogs name on there collar !!!!! it makes it easy for people to steal your dog if they know it's name as it will respond to it's name. Put two numbers on the collar so there are two contact opsions NEVER THE DOGS NAME

As I got a German Shepherd a month ago, he is now two months; I reccomend not using pee pads. It's not the best as they aren't learning to go to the door when they want to use the bathroom, it's saying they can pee in the house. Also, if you want to train you're dog, get a clicker. I reccomend it as I've already trained Dakota (My dog) to sit, stay, settle, and down. And I am currently working on more. ^^
I know I'm not going to get a puppy I've been watching these things for 8 months torturing myself and also watching many videos of people getting puppies :(
Fyi that is not a great way to go about storing food, as it oxidizes and loses nutrients, you want a dog food bag thats gonna last for 6 weeks once you open it.
I'd also suggest getting ukeneba big breed puppy food. It works very well and probably get a bigger bed and you should get them from Ross, they are much cheaper :)
I have owned 2 GSD. I fed them both Wellness dog food. And Blue Buffalo Wilderness. They were silky smooth. Prefect weight and No grains or by- products. I do not recommend Ukinuba

When I’m done with college I want to get 5-6 German Shepherds and Doberman don’t worry I will not abuse or use them as fighting dogs I’m just studying to make animal prosthetics and will work from home and have lots of attention to give and I just love German Shepherds and other big dogs
Giving your dog dry kibble is give giving them dry processed junk food. If you want to treat your dog right give them actual food... Yes I mean human food. Why would you give them anything less?

As one who has owned this breed for 33 years, she should be on Adult food. You don't want her growing faster then her bones. Also the so called Large breed food is just a selling gimic. Also, crating is not necessary. An Xpen or just blocking off a room like a kitchen is fine.
I agree with you. People fall for all sorts of gimmicks and fads, and they are quite happy to pay high prices for them too. And let’s face it crating is a fairly new thing. In over 40 years of owning GS we never used them, still don’t. Crates didn’t even exist till recent years anyway, and the dogs managed very well. They were all toilet trained and all had their comfort space they each liked to go to and they were all healthy and happy dogs.
I think crates are necessary. they give your dog a space to sleep where they can't get into everything. If you give your dog to much room they will have more accidents.
2:22 I personally have a bit of a fear of those leashes. Because about 5-6 years ago when I was about 11 or 12 I was at the beach with my dad, stepmom & 2 younger sisters & my dad & stepmom's dogs. & one of them was on one of those leashes & at one point on the beach I picked up a stick & the dog on that leash saw me with the stick & came over to me. But I didn't feel like playing fetch with her so I thought that by throwing the stick aside she would lose interest & go back over to my dad & stepmom. Well she didn't. She went around me to get the stick & then ran back in the direction of my dad & stepmom & the leash went around my leg & I started screaming OW!!!!!!!! & I got rope burnt so bad it left a scar on both my legs for about 2-2 & a half years. So yeah now I'm 18 years old & still to this day he has the same leash & whenever I'm out with my dad & he brings that dog I make sure that if I'm not wearing long pants & shoes I walk really far behind him

Just so you know Blue Buffalo has been bought out and is no longer good! They have had recalls for the euthanasia drug being found in the dog food! Look up like Fromm, Wellness, Orijens, Acana, Earthborn, etc.. are very good dog food brands!
Im getting mine in 5 weeks. Ive waited 6 years for this. 6 years ago my 18 yr old collie passed away from old age. I miss him but I can’t wait my my gsd! All I can do is add things to cart and watch traning vids ect. If anyone has ANY tips to try to stop thinking about it as much please do!
Surprised she is sitting still? Don't be, the only reason she is just laying down is because she is having the time of her life chewing through that collar. Good job teaching her what she should and shouldn't chew own (sarcasm on the "good job" obviously).
My vet recommended Royal Cannin German Shepard puppy food best all around highest rated puppy food. They also carry it for all breeds and adult dogs as well.
You might also want to get some teething toys when they are very little and if you have kids the have plush toys don't get your dog plush toys because it might get him/her to start taking you kids treats
Apart from a few owners on here, most people commenting on hear seem too dumb to be a dog owner. I'm a retired dog handler and GSDs need an owner who can spend lots of time training and socialising them. If you don't you'll end up in a bucket load of trouble. A GSD is one big dog to control if you get things wrong. Also, they are major moulters and DO need grooming every day. If you haven't got lots of time and patience don't buy one!
Don’t be putting food in plastic totes! Keep the bag around it. If you switch the food to just the plastic it gets older faster, get extra greesy from other food, and food mites actually can live in the plastic and your animal will ingest them and cause GI upset. You can use the containers but please keep the origional packaging around the food

Hey Just for some info my uncle is actually a vet (alpine pet hospital in Calgary) He told me that blue wilderness is not a good dog food brand, the company is only a marketing brand and they don't test it through as many dogs as royal canin does. Choose a vet recommended brand not wilderness, please.

Actually, it's best if you don't. I know you want a dog, but are you willing to get up at 5am every morning for him/her to go outside? A puppy is a big job! I got mine when I was fifteen and my parents didn't want another one (my previous dog had passed away a few months prior). I did my research and read everything there was about having and training a puppy (bought books and read on the internet) and I proved to my parents I was actually ready to take care of it myself. I know you already have a dog, but a puppy is different. Cleaning up their mess (poop everywhere), hiding all of your shoes so they don't murder them and even training takes a lot of your time and energy. Try to understand your parents' reaction. They might think they will have to take care of it themselves, and they don't want that on their plates (with their family they already take care of). If you show your parents that you actually want a puppy for more than its cuteness, it'll prove to them that you are mature enough to take care of one. It worked for me, and now Apollo is a well trained, super cute standard poodle!

As well as pee pads aren't very good, you're puppy should get used to a specific texture like grass, not that kinda feeling because that may influence them to not do there business on the grass and it will charge you more
I don't like using pee pads because pee pads are like solf so they kinda teach them to poop and pee on carpet, blankets, and solf things I prefer making a potty schedule and I just take my dogs to the grass and my dogs understand to poop and pee outside and now they haven't had a single accident. I'm planning on getting another dog

A bath mat/rug for the crate helps and a rubber mat under the puppy pads I think that looking in the cat isle yield better results for finding a rubber mat or you could look for welcome mats and outdoor rugs ect

They are very useful for your dog to go before their second vaccination though, because otherwise if they go outside then they might get a disease.

2:22 I personally have a bit of a fear of those leashes. Because about 5-6 years ago when I was about 11 or 12 I was at the beach with my dad, stepmom & 2 younger sisters & my dad & stepmom's dogs. & one of them was on one of those leashes & at one point on the beach I picked up a stick & the dog on that leash saw me with the stick & came over to me. But I didn't feel like playing fetch with her so I thought that by throwing the stick aside she would lose interest & go back over to my dad & stepmom. Well she didn't. She went around me to get the stick & then ran back in the direction of my dad & stepmom & the leash went around my leg & I started screaming OW!!!!!!!! & I got rope burnt so bad it left a scar on both my legs for about 2-2 & a half years. So yeah now I'm 18 years old & still to this day he has the same leash & whenever I'm out with my dad & he brings that dog I make sure that if I'm not wearing long pants & shoes I walk really far behind him

Just so you know Blue Buffalo has been bought out and is no longer good! They have had recalls for the euthanasia drug being found in the dog food! Look up like Fromm, Wellness, Orijens, Acana, Earthborn, etc.. are very good dog food brands!

Im getting mine in 5 weeks. Ive waited 6 years for this. 6 years ago my 18 yr old collie passed away from old age. I miss him but I can’t wait my my gsd! All I can do is add things to cart and watch traning vids ect. If anyone has ANY tips to try to stop thinking about it as much please do!
Surprised she is sitting still? Don't be, the only reason she is just laying down is because she is having the time of her life chewing through that collar. Good job teaching her what she should and shouldn't chew own (sarcasm on the "good job" obviously).
My vet recommended Royal Cannin German Shepard puppy food best all around highest rated puppy food. They also carry it for all breeds and adult dogs as well.
You might also want to get some teething toys when they are very little and if you have kids the have plush toys don't get your dog plush toys because it might get him/her to start taking you kids treats
Apart from a few owners on here, most people commenting on hear seem too dumb to be a dog owner. I'm a retired dog handler and GSDs need an owner who can spend lots of time training and socialising them. If you don't you'll end up in a bucket load of trouble. A GSD is one big dog to control if you get things wrong. Also, they are major moulters and DO need grooming every day. If you haven't got lots of time and patience don't buy one!

Don’t be putting food in plastic totes! Keep the bag around it. If you switch the food to just the plastic it gets older faster, get extra greesy from other food, and food mites actually can live in the plastic and your animal will ingest them and cause GI upset. You can use the containers but please keep the origional packaging around the food

Hey Just for some info my uncle is actually a vet (alpine pet hospital in Calgary) He told me that blue wilderness is not a good dog food brand, the company is only a marketing brand and they don't test it through as many dogs as royal canin does. Choose a vet recommended brand not wilderness, please.

Actually, it's best if you don't. I know you want a dog, but are you willing to get up at 5am every morning for him/her to go outside? A puppy is a big job! I got mine when I was fifteen and my parents didn't want another one (my previous dog had passed away a few months prior). I did my research and read everything there was about having and training a puppy (bought books and read on the internet) and I proved to my parents I was actually ready to take care of it myself. I know you already have a dog, but a puppy is different. Cleaning up their mess (poop everywhere), hiding all of your shoes so they don't murder them and even training takes a lot of your time and energy. Try to understand your parents' reaction. They might think they will have to take care of it themselves, and they don't want that on their plates (with their family they already take care of). If you show your parents that you actually want a puppy for more than its cuteness, it'll prove to them that you are mature enough to take care of one. It worked for me, and now Apollo is a well trained, super cute standard poodle!

As well as pee pads aren't very good, you're puppy should get used to a specific texture like grass, not that kinda feeling because that may influence them to not do there business on the grass and it will charge you more
I don't like using pee pads because pee pads are like solf so they kinda teach them to poop and pee on carpet, blankets, and solf things
I prefer making a potty schedule and I just take my dogs to the grass and my dogs understand to poop and pee outside and now they haven't had a single accident.

You should get a dog poop bag dispenser. It makes it easier than tying the poop bags onto the leash or putting them in your pocket.
+April Luna I just think it's easier to tie a bag on the leash than get the dispenser. I do have a treat pouch with a poop bag section but for quick potty walks I don't use it. Thank you :)
Guys! If you're reading this, raised bowl dishes are bad. It's Not natural for a dog to eat from that position.
A bath mat/rug for the crate helps and a rubber mat under the puppy pads I think that looking in the cat isle yield better results for finding a rubber mat or you could look for welcome mats and outdoor rugs ect
