You are four minutes from my house and couldn't stop by to say hello Thomas lol I still watch all your old videos over and over just to catch up God bless be safe keep fishing
Everytime I need to know something there's always a video on TH-cam teaching me how to do it and as always the Flukemaster is always there to teach me. I love this guy, by far the best teacher on TH-cam. THANK YOU SO MUCH, Gene, you're the best!
Gene! I gotta thank you for this one, I didn't believe in chatter bait but got on based on your video and it worked just like you showed it here. I fished the same type of water, rigged it the same way and even used the same action you described and nailed a big one in a part of my favorite lake I never caught fish before..thank you so much for all the help with my new found love of fishing.
Just picked up my first ZMAN Original Chatterbait and am looking forward to giving it a try in our cold, muddy lake. This video really helped. thanks Gene!
I just got into watching fishing videos on TH-cam to gain some information on bass fishing. You are the most informative angler on the site. Keep them coming! Thank you for the tips and recommendations.
I'm not sure if you read these or not but I really really appreciate your tips on baits! Every time I hear about a new fishing style or something that's hot right now I just hit up TH-cam, and YUP ole Flukemaster has a freakin bangin video on every topic I've ever searched for! Lol seriously you're my #1 resource man thank you!!
This is going to be my first year using the chatterbait. I always just skipped over it and stayed with things I was more comfortable with that could do the same job. So this year I made myself order two of them and I'm going to try to fish them and use them as another comfort bait. Thank you.
I just started fishing this in my local lake. I've been having trouble catching them, with this and a fluke I caught my best yet! Thanks Gene! You da man!
Gene, I have caught 95 percent of my big bas this season with a chatterbait. I have boxes of jigs that never saw the water this year because I was doing so well with it. And I agree about the rod. I use a moderate crankbait rod. I never lose fish and they eat it better. Great video!
Really enjoy watchin your videos! I am a bass nut and you have taught me some new tactics and ways to approach bass fishing can't wait to try them out when I go to Pickwick and Guntersville this year!
Man I absolutely love the Zman chatterbait, I keep one tied on one of my rods AT ALL TIMES with a zoom super fluke trailer. I've caught my biggest bass on them
Same here about not wanting to jump on the bandwagon. I bought 3 at $5 a pop (black & blue, white and the brown which you showed). I didn't have any luck with them until I used them like a jig. Bumping the bottom with a little pop here and there and amazingly I caught my biggest trophy bass this year on it (9.2lbs). But it feels good to know that I was fishing it the right way from watching this video. Great video & GO DAWGS!
You must have thought you was on that short boat, you stepped on the invisible trolling motor pedal!!! Lol nice work with the chatter bait, they have come out with some new ones since the video would love to see an updated video!!! Especially with the brass ones!!!
I will surely take advantage of some chatterbaits I have now that I see how to best rig and fish them. Thanks for the details.Looking for a Z-Man Custom at Bass Pro asap.
Awesome as always. Just tried my luck with a cheap chatterbait I randomly got on sale at bass pro for the first time and had no luck but I'll be heading to get that project z and rage for sure. Thanks again gene!
Love the project z's. you can burn those suckers and it stays under while also working properly or run it low and slow and it still vibrates properly. I don't use any other chatterbait.
Nice to see you on a Hobbie PA you should do a series of videos out of that boat. I have my bass boat but I love to be on my PA as well. the amount of Yakers it grows amazing!!!! thanks for all the good tips and keep the good job.. best of luck...
Excellent video as always Gene!! I'm getting ready to fish in a tournament at Lake of the Ozarks the middle of next month and I was thinking a chatterbait would be a definite piece in the arsenal. Just a great video to get me ready to use one!! Keep up the excellent work
I really love chatterbaits in all different kinds of water types.mive used them in lakes, ponds, rivers really any kind of water and they seem to do well for me. I have a couple of those strike king rage blades, yes they are kind of pricey but man they work and they never get caught up.
I really like chatterbaits, one of my biggest spots was caught on a chatterbait. I use the lake fork live shad as a trailer allot of the time, rage bugs, and vilecraws are also excellent.
Thank you so much for the tips and help! You are the man when it comes in to me not being sure what I should do or use! Thank you! Keep up the good work!
I just bought a micro z man, I'm in love after this video. I dont have the ideal setup you mentioned. With a tall light rod and braid I think a lighter hookset will be key.
Great video in the chatterbait. I don't want to come off as a peta type person but have you thought about using a net on the larger fish. A larger fish especially if its egg laden carries more weight than and causes more damage to a fish we rarely see after release. Please Gene im not trying to be critical of you videos. You provide excellent information and content to help fisherman catch more bass. As a great role model and teacher though please show people that its better to try and land a fish with as least contact with the deck as possible. Just like MAJOR LEAGUE FISHING is promoting now. Anyhow Gene you are a great professor for helping less experienced anglers and greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work.
Well done, good information. It has been hard to put down my pet spinnerbaits to give these lures a fair trial. I have a few, and will try them now that the water is finally starting to warm up.
"Hey guys, this is Gene Jensen!" No, it's a big ass bass! Great video again Gene. If you're saying this things goes well through thick grass, I might just give it a try cause thick grass and lilipads is pretty much the only places we can find largemouths here, almost never in open water.
Hey gene I was wondering when the next hangout would be and would love to be their I haven't been in one in a while and think they are great and give good information too many anglers and draw input from many different regions please let me know when the next one will be thanks a lot -Trentin Williams
I may have missed it but did you talk about hooksets? Is it more of a sweeping side hookset or a hard vertical hookset that you would do with a jig? Thank you.
When you say the rage blade comes through brush really well opposed to the original chatter bait are you talking about just brush piles or standing timber too?
how do you know the fish are getting ready to spawn? can you explain post spawn and pre spawn please. how do you know where the best place to go on any given body of water? this is complicated to me
I’m glad I watched this again , must not have been paying attention (think I watched it the year I got married lol) So no wonder I don’t remember , but I had no clue Strike King had a “Rage blade” I was only aware of the thunder cricket .... so I’m gonna have to try the rage blade
I would love to know your spots on Clark Hill Lake. My family have property on the lake and we spend most of our summer on the lake but i havent really fished it much. I mostly fish Lanier but I just hate the traffic on that lake.
Great and thank you. I live in Georgia and I'm a big fan of you, I'm also a beginner bass fishermen and trying to get some pointers. Maybe one day I may run into and would love to fish with you if you're in Georgia, if that's alright with you?
As someone else has said, if you could get some shots of where you are casting to and what the bank looks like if you are fishing the bank in future videos that would be fantastic. Keep it up!
I just recently started using the ZMan original chatterbait n I have 3 colors, white, chart/white, & black/blue in 3/8oz but the trailer that came with chart/white is all white, I was wondering if dying the split tails in chart would make a difference also have the ZMan micro in chart/white. I was wondering if dying it would make a difference, I'm also a bank fisherman but haven't caught anything on the chatterbaits yet
he has a good video on choosing the right fishing rod. But in my experience, i prefer a 7 foot, medium power, fast action rod for my spinners, buz baits and chatter style baits.
Hi gene. Love your vids even though your on the east coast and I'm on west. Your vidios have got me a lot of bass.. question though.. I have a super clear body of water. Bass are moving on to there beds and they won't bite anything I throw. What should I be using..
If, they're on the bed it is TOUGH to get them to bite. I have luck tossing a soft plastic in there on the bed and just waiting, with the ever occasional twitch. -Random Angler
(old video I know) but one of these days, can you review your idea of water clarity? I live in Ocala Fl where I grew up on the Rainbow river and Silver Springs River, and the Withlacoochie, the water goes from 50ft visibility to 0 visibility, and so my perception of clear to muddy with bait color is a bit skewed.

Just picked up my first ZMAN Original Chatterbait and am looking forward to giving it a try in our cold, muddy lake. This video really helped. thanks Gene!
Imagine being a fish and then this tiny worm looking thing just tackle your favorite stick and drags it off into the darkness...
I just got into watching fishing videos on TH-cam to gain some information on bass fishing. You are the most informative angler on the site. Keep them coming! Thank you for the tips and recommendations.

Thanks fluke master for all your content. I miss seeing you in a full size boat man. Thanks bud
Really enjoy watchin your videos! I am a bass nut and you have taught me some new tactics and ways to approach bass fishing can't wait to try them out when I go to Pickwick and Guntersville this year!
Zach Wilson Thanks Zach. Those are two of my favorite lakes.
Man I absolutely love the Zman chatterbait, I keep one tied on one of my rods AT ALL TIMES with a zoom super fluke trailer. I've caught my biggest bass on them
I used some of the tips you give here Gene and caught my first chatterbait fish this weekend. Wasn't big, but felt like a victory
Thank you Gene. Can't wait to go out with this little bit of confidence and knowledge and learn this new bait.
Same here about not wanting to jump on the bandwagon. I bought 3 at $5 a pop (black & blue, white and the brown which you showed). I didn't have any luck with them until I used them like a jig. +1nupe1ace Thanks.... Sick-um
The Chatterbait is a great plug. Thanks Flukemaster as you are 1 of my favorites
The rage blade and thunder cricket have made me a believer in the chatterbait! I was like you in not believing in it for a long time
Just caught an 8 pounder yesterday on a chatter bait with a plastic worm trailer. I absolutely love fishing a chatter bait.
Just bought my first chatter-bait. Black and blue. Thank you for this video. VERY HELPFUL! Keep it up please
Your fishing videos are very informative. I enjoy watching them here in Gadsden Alabama home of the "Coosa River' or "Big Muddy' . Tim.
You must have thought you was on that short boat, you stepped on the invisible trolling motor pedal!!! Lol nice work with the chatter bait, they have come out with some new ones since the video would love to see an updated video!!! Especially with the brass ones!!!
LOL the dreaded stickfish!!! That was hilarious and awesome vids xD
1Rod1ReelFishing Thanks
Northern Stickerel
takes my hopes and dreams every time
Tree pounder
"Man he hit it hard too"
Lmao
I was SUPER excited when i saw u in a kayak. I knew u would come to yak side. Hope to see more videos of u in it. Love fishing in a kayak.
Smoke wolf It's a Hobie PA 14. This was the first day I had it on the water. I'm still rigging it up.
I will surely take advantage of some chatterbaits I have now that I see how to best rig and fish them. Thanks for the details.Looking for a Z-Man Custom at Bass Pro asap.
If you haven't tried one yet, get a Jackhammer Chatterbait
I finally bought some to try this season. I just gotta wait a little bit before I use them. My water in Missouri is still in the 40s
Awesome as always. Just tried my luck with a cheap chatterbait I randomly got on sale at bass pro for the first time and had no luck but I'll be heading to get that project z and rage for sure. Thanks again gene!
Kevin Spaulding Thanks Kevin
great video gene! i haven't put in too much time with a chatterbait but it's something that i have been meaning to learn a bit better.
***** Thanks
Flukemaster will it work better if you put a trailer, such as a live magic shad?
JHMiller01 never mind. lol you had one on
Thank you for the vIdeo, I personally believe that the chatterbait is one of the most under rated lures out there!
Love the project z's. you can burn those suckers and it stays under while also working properly or run it low and slow and it still vibrates properly. I don't use any other chatterbait.
Never fished a chatterbait till yesterday after watching your video....Caught 3 pike in like 15 cast...No bass yet!!! Thanks for the info...
Nice to see you on a Hobbie PA you should do a series of videos out of that boat. I have my bass boat but I love to be on my PA as well. the amount of Yakers it grows amazing!!!! thanks for all the good tips and keep the good job.. best of luck...

Chris Beemer Thanks Chris, Good luck
Great video Gene! Kinda funny, went out and threw a chatterbait today for the first time. Caught my pb at 9.4lbs! I think I'm hooked on it
***** That's freaking awesome Chris, congratulations.
Flukemaster Thanks! Love the Vids, I learn so much from them
I really love chatterbaits in all different kinds of water types.mive used them in lakes, ponds, rivers really any kind of water and they seem to do well for me. I have a couple of those strike king rage blades, yes they are kind of pricey but man they work and they never get caught up.
Sam Brentwood I couldn't agree more.
Laughs (Jackhammer)
Caught many stick fish. Have not tried a chatter bait, but there’s always a first. Nice video.
I really like chatterbaits, one of my biggest spots was caught on a chatterbait. I use the lake fork live shad as a trailer allot of the time, rage bugs, and vilecraws are also excellent.
New2Kendo Cool
Informative as always! Thanks for being the bass teacher I never had!
Thank you so much for the tips and help! You are the man when it comes in to me not being sure what I should do or use! Thank you! Keep up the good work!
+drew giperson Thanks Drew
Thanks for the shoutout, Gene!
Salt Life It's was my pleasure.
would like to see the banks when u catch a fish. i would like to have seen the point u was fishing.
Shane Deel It wasn't much of a point out of the water. I'm working on a new camera mount that will show the bank though. Look for it in the future.
Flukemaster that sounds great. im always wondering the types of banks you are casting to.
that's a quick on the draw hook set Mr. lol...love the tips!
I just bought a micro z man, I'm in love after this video. I dont have the ideal setup you mentioned. With a tall light rod and braid I think a lighter hookset will be key.
Great video dude, I really love fishing the chatterbait. Gave me a couple more tips.
Josh Anthony Thanks Josh
Great video in the chatterbait. I don't want to come off as a peta type person but have you thought about using a net on the larger fish. This video was filmed years ago. Before Major League Fishing and before all the emphasis on keeping them off the carpet started.
Well done, good information. It has been hard to put down my pet spinnerbaits to give these lures a fair trial. I have a few, and will try them now that the water is finally starting to warm up.
John Pendleton Good luck John and thanks
"Hey guys, this is Gene Jensen!" No, it's a big ass bass! Great video again Gene. If you're saying this things goes well through thick grass, I might just give it a try cause thick grass and lilipads is pretty much the only places we can find largemouths here, almost never in open water.
Francis Ducharme Lily pads are a little harder than submerged grass.
I would think you would want a medium/heavy with a fast action with the Z-man chatterbait hook being thick, needing to drive that thicker hook more.
Hey gene I was wondering when the next hangout would be and would love to be their I haven't been in one in a while and think they are great and give good information too many anglers and draw input from many different regions please let me know when the next one will be thanks a lot -Trentin Williams
Great video Gene! Just bought one of the new zman chatterbaits myself and can't wait to try it out! lol
Shakyhead Junky They are my favorite. Good luck.
lmbo, love that you did not edit out the stick fish, that's real fishin! Thanks for the tips on the different blades.
Harry Timmons Thanks Harry.
thanks Gene your videos really help me and my dad fish
livingwaterfishing 33 Awesome, I"m glad I can help
Thanks i just caught my pb bass on a z man chatterbait with a white fluke. 7lb large mouth.
I may have missed it but did you talk about hooksets? Is it more of a sweeping side hookset or a hard vertical hookset that you would do with a jig? Thank you.
Great Video, Gene! Very informative for me who is just getting into tournament fishing
Yes! I was wondering when you were going to do a Chatterbox video! Can you do a squarebill video this season as well?
When you say the rage blade comes through brush really well opposed to the original chatter bait are you talking about just brush piles or standing timber too?
pondbassin23 Wood in general
Video came out just in time. I was planning on learning how to fish the chatterbait
Landon Lambert Good I'm glad I could help you out Landon
how do you know the fish are getting ready to spawn? can you explain post spawn and pre spawn please. how do you know where the best place to go on any given body of water? this is complicated to me
mid spring is spawn season. fish act diffrently durring spawn
Excellent video. You answered a lot of questions I had on the chatterbait!
Do you just tie a Palomar when flipping with like an ounce weight or do you snell. If so do you have a how to of how to tie the snell?
NHavens96 I snell it.
Would you still use a white colored chatterbait in water that only has sunfish, crappie, and perch for forage or would you change up the color?
I probably would but I would more than likely use green pumpkin instead.
Thanks for the quick response, that's what I was thinking as well.
Adam A awesome question
thats what we got in mt everything is usually based on shad
I’m glad I watched this again , must not have been paying attention (think I watched it the year I got married lol)
So no wonder I don’t remember , but I had no clue Strike King had a “Rage blade” I was only aware of the thunder cricket .... so I’m gonna have to try the rage blade
Question for you sir is a spinning reel or a bait caster reel perform better using a chatterbait
Finally! Lol. I have been hoping you'd post this video for over a year. Awesome dude! you using the 3/8 or 1/2 oz model?
AxE21685 I screwed one up a year ago. I'm glad I was able to finally do a good one. I use 1/2 oz.
+Flukemaster Assuming you vary your weight. What do you recommend for weight and the various depths you would fish them?
Great video man. I watch all of yours. What I wouldn't get to fish with you
I would love to know your spots on Clark Hill Lake. My family have property on the lake and we spend most of our summer on the lake but i havent really fished it much. I mostly fish Lanier but I just hate the traffic on that lake.
Zack Adams I've been offered a lot of money for my spots on Clarks Hill. I'll keep them to myself for now. LOL
Do you put in around the Gills Point area?
Zack Adams I put in all over the lake. It just depends on what part of the lake I want to fish that day.
I'd like to request that you do some reviews on Shell Cracker G2 or Savage Gear 3D Craw. Great gear. Love to hear your review.
Hey Gene, was wondering when the next mtb video is up? Just started subscribing to it and want to see what you do with it.
louispvb I hope to film it Tuesday
Great and thank you. I live in Georgia and I'm a big fan of you, I'm also a beginner bass fishermen and trying to get some pointers. Maybe one day I may run into and would love to fish with you if you're in Georgia, if that's alright with you?
What would one have to do to organize a fishing trip in Virginia w the fluke master?
As someone else has said, if you could get some shots of where you are casting to and what the bank looks like if you are fishing the bank in future videos that would be fantastic. Keep it up!
aj06bolt12r I"m working on that. I'm just waiting on the new boat to rig up my new camera mount.
What is your home lake? You ever make your way into Alabama to fish G'ville, Wheeler, Wilson, Pickwick?
I just recently started using the ZMan original chatterbait n I have 3 colors, white, chart/white, & black/blue in 3/8oz but the trailer that came with chart/white is all white, I was wondering if dying the split tails in chart would make a difference also have the ZMan micro in chart/white. I was wondering if dying it would make a difference, I'm also a bank fisherman but haven't caught anything on the chatterbaits yet
+Geoffrey Rogers I don't think it will make a difference but you can die it if you want but don't use JJ's Magic. It will dissolve.
When will we se the new boat on the water or in a review?
Horace Reid As soon as I get it. We are just waiting on the motor. It will be worth the wait.
what tips do you have for stripper bass, I live in Ga and I am fairly cloae to alot of lakes with good size stripper. any tips?
Great Video. Good information. Going to grab a few chatter baits now. Thanks again
Could you use braided line for chatterbaits
Zman actually recommends using braided line for it. That's what I use and it works great.
Great video. I love chatterbaits. Think I'm gonna get that rod you were using I need two more to be ready for spring.
Robert Grasso A Med Hvy crankbait rod is the best for it.
Should the trailer be around the same color as the lure?
can I use a fast action rod or is it better to have a moderate medium action for chatterbait and spinnerbaits
Yes I like fast action better myself if I am going to use monofilament line
he has a good video on choosing the right fishing rod. But in my experience, i prefer a 7 foot, medium power, fast action rod for my spinners, buz baits and chatter style baits.
Great video Gene, very informative!
TackleJunky81 Thanks Jim
What baits would u recommend for spring (prespawn)? Around 45 degree water
How would these fair in faster currents with a lot of stone structures?
+Zack Amig they do very well.
we love u up in Michigan
Second that!
When is it spawn for lake Lanier
Hi gene. Love your vids even though your on the east coast and I'm on west. Your vidios have got me a lot of bass.. question though.. I have a super clear body of water. Bass are moving on to there beds and they won't bite anything I throw. What should I be using..
Same with me. Can't figure them out
If, they're on the bed it is TOUGH to get them to bite. I have luck tossing a soft plastic in there on the bed and just waiting, with the ever occasional twitch. -Random Angler
Miguel Alvarez Watch my video about bedding bass.
Linked above. ;)
Nice video. I have never seen a chatterbait used before. Does the blade act like a spoon before the jig?
(old video I know) but one of these days, can you review your idea of water clarity? I live in Ocala Fl where I grew up on the Rainbow river and Silver Springs River, and the Withlacoochie, the water goes from 50ft visibility to 0 visibility, and so my perception of clear to muddy with bait color is a bit skewed.
Way to show in all the videos I've seen you actually cought one on the bait I love to use thanks
Hey Gene how would you fish lakes that are still in the mid 40s to upper 40s?
Jerk Bait
ballarac3rboi Yes, a jerkbait and a lipless crankbait as the water got in the upper 40s
I have the same reel. It's nice and smooth.
I have always stuck to a saying that says some baits are meant for catching fisherman more than fish. I've always put a chatter bait in that category. Should I give it a second chance?
+Beaston Outdoors Yes rethink and re-fish them.
i was like you at 1st, but now its in my top 3. yesterday i also caught a 3.5lb channel cat on it...they have replaced my spinners!!!!
Good stuff! Going to try to fish a chatterbait more this year
+Conner May Cool. Tanks for watching
Ah yes thank you for doing this, these are my kind of videos! I love chatterbaits
Chala Bone Thanks
Hey gene, I live on lake oconee, Georgia, and I was wonder what your favorite bait for large mouth is on this lake?
Chatterbaits are great and I personally have found the Z-man Chatterfrog is even better for luring out the bigger fish.
Gene - would it be beneficial to use fluorocarbon do that way it'll sink and stay more on the bottom? Awesome vids! Keep'em coming!
Karnage You can use any line you like. I just think the mono gives me the best chance at hooking the fish.
I've been waiting on this video for a while. I like the chatterbait. I've had pepper tell me it doesn't catch alot of bass but it does catch big ones. It's been totally opposite with me. I catch a lot of nice sized ones and some big ones.
Justin Wilkerson It's a great bait that will catch any bass.
Fenwick Aetos?
