    Seeing AJ (and others) hesitating and repeating themselves like I do when rulesplaining is reassuring, people like Dave and Rodney make it look so easy 😂

    Those name tags at the intro look good, but they could probably stick on screen a little longer, especially if they have usernames underneath.

    • @BobbyGoines
      @BobbyGoines 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've thought the same. I like the new look, but the old names stayed on - screen longer. Maybe with the animation, it's the same amount of time, but the name isn't visible for very long.

    I got to play this game before the lock down. It's a lot of fun. But the expansion didn't come until after so I'm looking forward to things becoming safe again.

    Got to have a sense of humor with this game. It's very Munchkin-like in that regard. If all you care about is winning, you're not going to have much fun here. Roll with the punches, sell as much garbage as you can, if the hero wins, great, but if they don't...there'll always be another aspiring hero. =D

    • @skyblazeeterno
      @skyblazeeterno 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      seems like its made Munchkin (in a sense) far more complicated than necessary...20 minutes to explain a game that lasts 70 minutes is kind of bad imho

    at 58:15 AJ tosses a card on the discard pile, shouldn't that card be given to Nikki?

  • @ronhatch9175
    @ronhatch9175 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    At 53:35 when Dave loses two items to the Orc, shouldn't his display item have been shuffled into the rest of his hand so that it might have been one of the ones that he lost?
    (I haven't read the rules, so I'm just guessing based on the way other parts of the game work.)

    Not a fan of the rules explanation, successfully defeating the enemy is only sometimes your goal, and correctly manipulating the heroes is often more useful. The goal is mostly to get the most money, but if the heroes manage to cause a wound and survive you can get a bit prestige which can also be good is more the way I'd put it... because yeah, getting prestige can be valuable, but making particular heroes poor (or dead) and attracting a different hero is where the game comes alive... also if someone makes too commanding a lead it's everyone else' goal to kill all the heroes so it ends in a draw.
    I think the game's fine played benevolently, but a lot of people go in with the mindset that you're the good guys, and that's just not in the spirit of the game, nor is it playing to the game's greatest strengths.
    Also small rules thing, employees shouldn't persist between rounds, you should shuffle them in and draw 2 more each upgrade phase.

    • @jonplaysmemoir4461
      @jonplaysmemoir4461 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree. "We are, uh, shop dealers." This just reinforces what a great teacher Dave is. Conditions of victory, Setup, Rounds/Phases, turn choices, explain icons as you go. This guy is all over the place.

    • @skyblazeeterno
      @skyblazeeterno 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jonplaysmemoir4461 Dave is imho THE best boardgames rules explainer on the net and rarely does he drop the ball...its only when other people start to explain rules you realise just how good he is at it...maybe he had become a bit jaded doing rules explananations. The only other person up there is Rodney Smith but I think Dave has the edge

    Usually like these play throughs, but this one (and its rules explanation) was rough. I think there needs to be more close up camera work on the cards to better understand what’s taking place.

    I think without the -1/-1's in the random deck would make the game better. Like, if it didn't cost Lincoln the win, it certainly completely screwed him through no fault of his own from being able to even have a chance to win.
    Leaving the +0 and the +1 but also -1s in the deck that still produces variety and drama without so deeply punishing the players who are unlucky enough to get nothing/mostly bad results ala Lincoln.
    That, I think, is basic good game design 101. You design not for the average experience, but the extremes. A game is better, at least for me, when the extreme example, ala the dice never rolling in someones favor say, doesn't mean the difference between victory or defeat is completely out of a players hands. At least not without something in the players hands or favor that lets them mitigate it.
    That philosophy doesn't always matter, Luck is a perfectly find factor (though still not the best game design tool IMO) for fully co-op games. The Arkham Horror games for example are typically fine with dice-roles being a major element, since everyone is in it together and bad luck effects everyone more equally.

    • @PandaOfElastic
      @PandaOfElastic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you think any game that's competitive with luck is "bad design"?

  • @neverlooz
    @neverlooz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I feel like the game plays you more than you play the game. I mean it dont seem you have so many descision to make. On video anyway, it feel like the path is traced for you and you simply have to follow it, putting the obvious card here, chosing this obvious hero or getting it by default...Maybe the feel is different when you actually play it.

    • @SuperboyReborn
      @SuperboyReborn 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alex Gagnon the production is great but at the end of the day it is just a bit of a step up to sushi go. That’s not a bad thing but don’t go into this expecting a thinky game. This is definitely a family weight game. That being said, you can get hosed if you end up drafting a bad hand.

    This game seems like a lot of fun and I would love to play it. Unfortunately I never will, it’s a bit pricy at the moment ($60) and it’s too complicated to explain to those in my gaming circles. The people I game with want easy to learn games or something they already know. It’s not that this is too hard to explain, it just takes too long to explain all the working components. Bummer for me!

    • @rolvirata9003
      @rolvirata9003 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've played both this and 7 wonders, and this one seems easier to learn. If you guys have planned 7 wonders, that could be a gateway game to this.

  • @Dalmatinac3
    @Dalmatinac3 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Games too random. I mean, you spend all that time, preparing your hero, selling the items, just to flip over a card to lose fight power and lose random item cards...blah...

    • @bennelson270
      @bennelson270 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I house ruled it to have that card drawn before you sell them items, but after they have entered your shop. It gives you a little more knowledge of how to deal with a hero that walks into your shop and you as a shop keeper realize that he is completely drunk or a blathering buffoon so maybe don't want to sell your best wares.

    This is very, very petty, but it makes me sad that the designers made a diverse group of male and female heroes and villains, yet the group keeps using male pronouns for them all. I know this is pretty common, but I really noticed it here.

    • @dog1783
      @dog1783 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know they didn't mean it maliciously at all, but I feel like it stood out because there's literally no reason to call them male. It's not like there are names on there or anything, it's just a picture and a class lol
