I was very impressed with how cleanly you removed the original foil lid. Using a nice, sharp x-acto knife and cutting away from yourself. Perfect! Actually, all of your cutting was done with precision. It was very enjoyable watching you reuse the pods! Thanks!
I've been filling my on pods for years now. I started with used Nespresso pods and cut out the foil and empty as you did. I buy the replacement foils from Amazon and find that although the foils do partially cover the barcode on the pod, it still works. I have generally filled my pods to the brim with fine grind coffee and haven't had any issues. I wore out my Nespresso Vertuoline machine - it locked up and would not make any rotation at all. I found a video here on YT on how to replace the bearing, and I ordered the bearing and tools necessary, and with about $12 in parts and tools, and a few hours of hands-on labor, I saved my Nespresso machine from the garbage heap and it's as good as new. So quiet and makes froth like crazy with my homemade pods with my own fresh-ground coffee.
Sorry, but why buy a capsule coffee maker? They buy it for the quality of the coffee and the technology of the machine, if they later use any coffee. Can you explain it to me?
FYI, the barcode doesn't just control the amount of water. The list of things encoded in the barcode are: rotational speed, temperature, infusion time, volume and flow of water. You'll notice that some coffees come out "frothier" than others, or take longer/shorter to brew than others. So, if you use an existing barcode you'll get the same characteristics as that of the original pod's contents, which may be right, or wrong for the coffee you're brewing. It sounds like there's a group which are trying to decode the Nespresso barcode to figure out which parts of the barcode control which features of the brew.

Great video! Thanks for doing this. I’ve tried various refillables for my Next and ALWAYS had problems. To the point where I had to spend hours doing a full clean out of my machine. But your quick note of not filling the pod too much, leaving that little space on top, is key! Also, I have learned to stay away from the fine grinds of coffee. The fine grinds tend to “leak” out of the puncture holes and clog up the works. Use a medium to medium fine grind for best results.
Maybe that is my problem, grinding too fine? I've tried this hack 2 times in a row, and I got the dreaded error red cup signal on my NEXT. Do you still do this hack? still working for you Michael?
Another alternative is to do what I did and purchase the flexible rubber resealable tops. I got two for $10. You simply take a used pod and quickly cut the aluminum top off with an xacto knife… it takes about 20 seconds. After you dump out the used coffee and fill with fresh coffee you simply pop the rubber top/lid on and you’re good to go. Super quick and easy. You do not have to go the extra steps shown on this video of trimming the bar code area and cutting tin foil.
Definitely not a good idea. Those don't provide a well enough seal. They may work for a while but eventually grounds will come out and mess up the machine and destroy it. Seen so many people use those to only end up messing up their machine over time

just tried your hack with my new vertuo next nespresso. so far I am getting alot of 'back wash' coffee into the compartment for the used pods. But the point is that you’re on to something with this video. I appreciate it because it’s a game changer 😂
One complaint I have with Nespresso is that the coffee becomes lukewarm once cold cream is added to the cup. Warming the cream is a pain, so I keep the cup, before and after brewing, partially submerged in a pot of boiling hot water.
I use espresso ground Gevalia dark roast, my favorite 😍 Peets really good too. I'm into dark roast but use ur fave, just make sure it's espresso ground
Why did you need to use a second pod if the numbers are on the bottom of the pod? Shouldn't they still be there since you didn't cover the pod with aluminum on the bottom.
The machine reads the barcode that is around the rim on the bottom of the pod, she cut that part out of the first pod, she used the second pod that still has the barcode so the machine can read it.
I don’t like the nespresso coffee flavors but their I love their espresso flavors. But tbh, too expensive. I usually do four shots for my coffee and each pod cost 1 dollar and something cents. Which does add up over time. I just bought the Amazon reusable foils but once they ran out I will try this hack definitely!!
@@LindasFavorites I tried and it works perfectly. I wanted to ask you what type of espresso grounds would you recommend? I liked the nespresso Chiaro flavors something around that line.
hi linda, i got a Vertuo Next as a gift. so i decided to try this hack. however, i nearly killed my brand new machine. so i would like to know which machine is yours? seems the "new" ones know your hack, so they have designed to make it harder to make pod copies. its still in ICU. so i am not sure if my machine still works. scared to buy new pods incase my machine is certified. very worried 😨 lesson learnt.
I have a vertuo plus.. the problem could be ur packing too much into the pod.. the machine spins the pod while running water through the grounds so it needs a little space.. that happened to me before, packing too much the machine thought it was clogged.
I just buy the foil lids from Amazon...100 for $6, and the reusable pods from Walmart 6 for $10! No cutting involved. I'm too lazy for the art project.😔
It's so that the inner pod can sit inside the outer pod seamlessly so thr machine can brew. I've tried it without cutting the inner pod, and my machine gave me the red light of death 😆 So, this method was the best method that worked for me personally
I had a feeling this was possible.. Perfect - Thank you 😊 Will not pay $11 for only 10 pods at BB&B anymore. LoL (For my daily Caramel Machiato, I grind coffee beans at home every morning for my espresso machine) So now I will just grind extra - make a nespresso hacked pod to take to work to use in the nespresso machine in the lunch room) #Brilliant 👍🏾
@@LindasFavorites I did it. And I didn’t even trim the edge of the inner capsule. I just filled it with grounds, cover with foil and place it in the outer capsule….and a new capsule was born.. perfect 👍🏾

cel mai misto e sa folositi cafea in cialde espresso .Indepartezi folia de la o capsula mica si introduci o cialda , si incape foarte bine. rezulta o cafea foarte buna si cu multa spuma la un pret de sub 20 de centi
What I do is fold the foil over and over, say 5-6 times then cut it 4 times or whatever the width of your roll of foil so you end up with a bunch of squares. Then sharpie one circle and cut all the layers at once .... now you have a half a dozen circles cut at the same time ...Tadaah . Also the reply prior, is correct, barcode controls the spin rpm , temp , sit time and water volumn so choose wisely grasshopper!
Hello, how is this hack going for you so far ? Does your machine still work good? Also, when you use the espresso ground, or coffee grounds, do you still get the creme on your coffee when using this hack? Would love to hear how it's working for you, thanks
Hi Manual, yes, I'm still using this method and my machine is still a happy camper. The crema on my hacked pods are better than nespresso, especially when I use quality beans! Hope this helps 🙏
No need to cut the rim off. Use the rim to hold the foil over the edge and then trim the foil. Then place the 2nd pod beneath the 1st, providing the barcode while holding the foil in place. Easy. If your machine doesn't accept the pods try putting a small dent in the peak of the dome bottom to reduce the total depth.
yes, i still work this hack. again, don't grind too fine. the power will leach out and clog the nozzles. also, be certain the inner "cup" sits tightly in the outer shell. The red light light will flash if it senses things are not spinning properly.

One complaint I have with Nespresso is that the coffee becomes lukewarm once cold cream is added to the cup. Warming the cream is a pain, so I keep the cup, before and after brewing, partially submerged in a pot of boiling hot water.
Awesome tip!
I’ve run a used pod through first to warm nespresso up also I’ve heard people actually warm the water then add to machine
Do you think heavy-duty foil or regular foil works better?
Heavy duty, the puncture of the holes is different and there's less coffee grounds in my experience
What coffee did you fill it with??♥️♥️♥️
I use espresso ground Gevalia dark roast, my favorite 😍
Peets really good too. I'm into dark roast but use ur fave, just make sure it's espresso ground
Thanks great video…oh what brand of coffee is your favorite
I love dark roast so I drink Italian or French
Why did you need to use a second pod if the numbers are on the bottom of the pod? Shouldn't they still be there since you didn't cover the pod with aluminum on the bottom.
The machine reads the barcode that is around the rim on the bottom of the pod, she cut that part out of the first pod, she used the second pod that still has the barcode so the machine can read it.
Thank you for sharing this. I’m going to make my own coffee ☕️ at home 😇😇😇
Thanks for the info. But, where's the Caramel Machiatto vid?
I works but cut my finger open and the coffee comes out weak not as dark as nespresso
Great video
Such a smart idea!
Have you done your caramel macchiato?
Not yet, I find it, but my editor has been down for some time
Love your videos. Keep it up!!!
Thank youuuu!
Mine works doing this and its wonderful
I don’t like the nespresso coffee flavors but their I love their espresso flavors. But tbh, too expensive. I usually do four shots for my coffee and each pod cost 1 dollar and something cents. Which does add up over time. I just bought the Amazon reusable foils but once they ran out I will try this hack definitely!!
Try it and let me know! With inflation how it is now in USA, I'm enjoying not spending extra $
@@LindasFavorites yes!! Like nowadays everything has gone up gas, eggss, milks, butter you name it. I hope this inflation goes away soon!!
@@LindasFavorites I tried and it works perfectly. I wanted to ask you what type of espresso grounds would you recommend? I liked the nespresso Chiaro flavors something around that line.
@@nerd23x I love the Gevalia espresso ground, dark roast; or try Lavazza espresso ground.. these are 👌👌
Wow this is awesome!!
Cool hack!
It brews a good cup of coffee
However, I don’t seem to be getting the same crema as the real pods
Any advice as to what I’m doing wrong?
Make sure your coffee grounds are espresso grind so its finer for the brew and will create better crema.
are you using 2 in order to get the barcode because of the foil? Because then why not just get the foils off amazon so the barcode isn't covered.
hi linda, i got a Vertuo Next as a gift. so i decided to try this hack. however, i nearly killed my brand new machine. so i would like to know which machine is yours? seems the "new" ones know your hack, so they have designed to make it harder to make pod copies. its still in ICU. so i am not sure if my machine still works. scared to buy new pods incase my machine is certified. very worried 😨 lesson learnt.
I have a vertuo plus.. the problem could be ur packing too much into the pod.. the machine spins the pod while running water through the grounds so it needs a little space.. that happened to me before, packing too much the machine thought it was clogged.
Another hack is double tapping when you start and it'll do a double shot btw.
This only works on the Next and the Pop+, unfortunately. Doesn't work on the Plus. 😞
What do you mean by "double tapping" - I'm new to Nespresso. Thank you!
@ Press the power button twice after loading the pod.
@@dperreno thank you
And will this ruin machine after a while
Very clever hack
I just buy the foil lids from Amazon...100 for $6, and the reusable pods from Walmart 6 for $10! No cutting involved. I'm too lazy for the art project.😔
I don’t understand why you cut the pod itself
It's so that the inner pod can sit inside the outer pod seamlessly so thr machine can brew. I've tried it without cutting the inner pod, and my machine gave me the red light of death 😆
So, this method was the best method that worked for me personally
I had a feeling this was possible.. Perfect - Thank you 😊
Will not pay $11 for only 10 pods at BB&B anymore. LoL
(For my daily Caramel Machiato, I grind coffee beans at home every morning for my espresso machine)
So now I will just grind extra - make a nespresso hacked pod to take to work to use in the nespresso machine in the lunch room) #Brilliant 👍🏾
Omgggg! Awesome! I'm so glad you found this helpful.. and the capsules really are getting expensive
@@LindasFavorites
I did it.
And I didn’t even trim the edge of the inner capsule. I just filled it with grounds, cover with foil and place it in the outer capsule….and a new capsule was born.. perfect 👍🏾
@@annm.1561 thanks so much for the follow up! I'm Def going to stop cutting any new ones.
Good job!
Brilliant! Thanks!
Tried this hack..does anyone get leakage into the overflow ? Thanks
Nothing leaking for me. But I use heavy duty foil instead of regular foil, and make sure the foil is secured or folded around the sides real good.
I have the leakage problem. Still having problem after using heavy duty foil.
@@thisisnotself8815 are u using espresso ground coffee? I had one pod leaked because I used medium ground. All my espresso ground coffee capsules are usable. The leak JUST happened to me last week.
@@LindasFavorites It’s possible my coffee ground is not fine enough. I’ll give espresso ground a try. Thanks for the response!
Thank you I like this hack . I don’t care for their coffee either.
cel mai misto e sa folositi cafea in cialde espresso .Indepartezi folia de la o capsula mica si introduci o cialda , si incape foarte bine. rezulta o cafea foarte buna si cu multa spuma la un pret de sub 20 de centi
Carmel macchiato please!
Thanks for sharing ❤️
"I love the machine because it's very fast" proceeds to spend hours refiling the capsules 🤣
You're awesome!
FYI you don't even need the aluminum foil - just the pod cup with coffee in it.
I tried this and my machine didn't like it, but I'm so so glad it works for your machine! Thanks for sharing this tip so others can try!
My machine won’t accept a double capsule without trimming the inner capsule.
Also you want to make the total capsule as light as possible.
For $12 Amazon sells stainless cups for coffee use!
They suck. They are very heavy and can ruin your machine!
Genius!
yes, i still work this hack. again, don't grind too fine. the power will leach out and clog the nozzles. also, be certain the inner "cup" sits tightly in the outer shell. The red light light will flash if it senses things are not spinning properly.
Awesome tip!
