Air rifles have been in use for long time one was even used for Lewis and Clark expedition. But the ultimate form of them were US dynamite guns and ww1 Austrian compressed air mortars.
In the lore of the game. The is a post apocalyptic weapon factory called the armory. We’re all the guns in the metro are made. However weapons from before the apocalypse are regarded as more reliable and more valuable such as the AKM.
How do they not realize that the glowing green sights are from Glass Ampules that are coated in a phosphorus based dry chemical and filled with Tritium gas (The Radioactive form of Hydrogen). When the Tritium (Actually colorless) reacts with the phosphoric compound, it results in light released due to radioluminescence/phosphorescence interaction.
Best loadout for this game is the Ashot with suppressor and grip & forestock, the Kalash with the standard upgrade (dust cover, stock and foregrip no vertical grips) with the 16 inch barrel and 4x scope, and the Helsing with the heavy stock and upgraded limbs. That's just asking for a good time and it'll work for almost every situation.
I know it's an older game but I'd love to see Brett react to the PS2 game Black by Criterion and EA. It is the only game I have ever played that came close to accurately portray just how loud and powerful it is to fire a gun indoors in real life.
As a player of the first two games I would have preferred they keep the "Bastard" .556 instead of sharing the pistols ammo & have the "lolife" from last light show up part way thru the game.
The Bastard gun at the beginning is the Lolife but when you get to Yamantau you start getting the trademark Bastard parts...disappointed the drum isn't in the game
Depending on the power output of a railgun, you actually need to pre-accelerate your projectile otherwise you risk welding it in the rails. The pneumatic system on the railguns probably serves for that purpose.
Seeing Metro Exodus guns just reminds me of a TH-cam short I saw not too long ago, where this guy made a homemade single shot pistol that happens to be chambered in either .50 BMG or .50 Action Express. Yeah, not kidding, they took turns to shoot it and boy it looked painful to fire.
Rotating firing hammer reminds me of the german sem auto but side ways. The one the predates the luger, where it bends up after each shot but in this case bends to the side.
okay, fairness to the railgun fella, they probably routed the gas to some sort of gearbox to charge it. the man has a bicycle break flashlight, no reason to think they didn't do similar for the railgun.
Metro 2033 and metro last light had some more realistic weapons, like the Ak-47, the p90, the Saiga 12, and the revolver which looks like a .44 magnum smith & Wesson
Not sure about WW1, they invented smokeless powder in late 1800's, but the Austro-Hungarian empire had an air rifle for it's army almost 100 yrs later. It was called the Girardoni air rifle, manufactured by the Holy Roman Empire, for Austro-Hungary. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girardoni_air_rifle The multi-barrel thing is probably based on a Fierllinger (4 barrells and i hope i did not butcher it). It's a hunting rifle, in english it's known as combination rifle and the mechanism was somewhat standardized by Browning. Before that, they used to be made in artisan fashion for nobility and they used to have 2/3/4 barrels, some with solid slug, some with shotgun, general hunting rifle with some awesome engraving. The long barrel revolver, should have had some escaping gasses between the cylinder and the barrel, it's not perfect fit unless Nagant 1895, and that was not one.
I'm sorry, but I cringed when they just said any element associated with radioactivity relating to tritium sights. Some radioisotopes of Plutonium are capable substitiutes... In theory... I think the emission energy would be too high as Alpha particles competing with spontaneous fission in the decay modes is an omen for the nucleus being incredibly unstable and since spontaneous fission is generally more energically demanding, this'd mean that alpha particles would get more energy than spontaneous fission fragments and therefore would be problematic when doing phosphorescence emissions. Just for reference, alpha emission probabilities function off the thought experiment of a particle in a box. The idea being the height of the box is the energy required to escape unimpeded and thus means that the particle within it is at a certain energy. Classically it's trapped, but due to the random nature of the universe, there's a proportionality between energy and probability up until that aforementioned wall which is 100%. It's technically applicable to all decay modes and explains half-life decay a bit more broadly. The more energy you have, the less time it remains stable due to probability, with some variance due to randomness. It's the entire idea.
I wish they made a new Metro game, maybe with new characters related to the old ones. Maybe a son/daughter of Artyon and Anna, and she with new faces go back to Moscow to ascertain the fate of the Metro dwellers and show them there is no war, no radiation past a few hundred kilometers and there is a whole new life. Maybe they encounter bandits, mutants and have side storrie along the way...
A supersonic bullet still makes a very loud crack, even when fired through a suppressor. The report of a shot does go down somewhat to levels that might not outright destroy your ability to hear. But not wearing hearing protection will still have it ring your bell. And if you try to suppress a shotgun with something that isn't up to spec... Sending high speed shrapnel of a can (or the whole thing) down range might draw some baffled looks from bystanders.
2 things I don’t like about metro exodus guns that aren’t an issue in the first 2. You can have a personal 3rd weapon. It’s only what Tarkarov gives you and it’s always a week gun. You can’t have a rifle, shotgun and pistol. And the other thing is that after just a few mags, the gun is completely dirty and jams. Terrible mechanics
I would imagine that due to shortage of ammo and working guns people would end up using slingshots using ball bearings or other convenient projectiles or traditional bows instead of using all the time and energy to tinker an actual working automatic guns and finding materials for building working ammo.
I’m surprised that these gunsmiths apparently never heard of a harmonica rifle which Has chambers that slide through the receiver John Brownings father made them in the 1850’s
People who have never fired a firearm and don’t know anything about firearms. say this kind of crap. “ oh yeah!!!, you can use a shotgun in the post apocalypse in emergencies because you don’t even the training and it’s close up”. Those idiots don’t realize that they’re pretty much rifles that shoot either slugs which make them like huge rifles that are really accurate or the grouping of double lot. Buck is pretty much like 8 to 9 -9mm shots in a really tight grouping even up to like really far like say like a I don’t know why don’t you go and check and source it next time freaking noobs. If anything, you need more training and practice for a shotgun because of the recoil and groupings are tight for a very long distance….

Air rifles have been in use for long time one was even used for Lewis and Clark expedition. But the ultimate form of them were US dynamite guns and ww1 Austrian compressed air mortars.
According to Forgotten Weapons, air guns date back to right around when the first handheld firearms were made.
In the lore of the game. The is a post apocalyptic weapon factory called the armory. We’re all the guns in the metro are made. However weapons from before the apocalypse are regarded as more reliable and more valuable such as the AKM.
that shotgun isn't rotating, it's a toggle lock like on a luger or a maxim machine gun, just turned sideways.

When the Tritium (Actually colorless) reacts with the phosphoric compound, it results in light released due to radioluminescence/phosphorescence interaction.
Possibly because Tritium ampules are gonna be incredibly hard to come by in the world of Metro.
That and glass, especially functional non dirty glass, would be a prized rarity in a place like Metro.
I love the ingenuity they use for the guns in the Metro series. Most of them seem to be plausible.
i really like the exodus shambler, a toggle locked short recoil system using a flatspring for the recoil spring
> Ammo shortage
"higher grade" ammo was currency in the first two games lol
