- Finishing the install of our new summit hydraulics third function kit on my old Ford 55 Backhoe. Can I turn this machine into a custom piece of kit for the homestead? Or will this build fail.
Check out Summit Hydraulics! - summit-hydraulics.com/

The wire sleeve is a great idea .
Hello, That spring mounted pole is called a "pogo-Stick" I've used bunjie cords too do the same thing. Now back to the video.
Boy howdy, that is NEAT!
Toys are fun.
Well, you're not a plumber, but you have a pipe wrench. So totally prepared.!
You should be in a good mood! You've taken a pigs ear and now....close to a silk purse! Definitely a functional one! Good Job CAP!
Thanks 👍
I felt like a French chicken at the 14:50 time stamp.
Maybe Captain will just build a grapple. DP built a tile plow. Aaron is a better welder but Captain is a fast learner, plus he has the 240 extension cord.
You and the old 555 are going to be grabbing that content and running with it now 😊
💪
Your backhoe went from clapped out to tricked out 🫨 12:43
When you go to buy a grapple, you should try to find one that has 2 separate claws to it. If not, 1. you can end up bending the single piece claw under the torque of uneven objects. 2. you can grab uneven stuff without the smaller piece falling out before the bigger piece does. I really liked the type of grapple style that you have here better, but in reality the 2 independant claw setup is more functional
That's the plan. Seems like a better fit for what I'll be doing, thanks for watching Jesse!
It was nice to hear Farmer Chris tell you that 555 is doing more than a newer tractor is capable of. Always a plus to get validation from someone you know & trust.
That is going to be a game changer for you. Can't wait to see whatcha got planned for it.
Gonna be awesome
just to let you know that I'm not always negative. this vid is worthy of comment.
deciding on where to mount the valve body and the routing of the hoses would be very taxing for me. you appear to have managed it quite well, hats off to you.
making the brackets for the hoses must have taken more time than imagined, altogether a good well done job
Triple nickel is coming right along sir. Lookin good bud!
Thanks 👍
Good to See You, Best Part of this Rainy Day
💪
1st time i heard spray paint becoming an athlete. Definitely stealing that one. 😂
You can use a wood splitter on it now!
👍 Good job, looking forward to the cab overhaul.
Thanks!
Hello from the Netherlands.
nice backhoo project 👍
thanks for the video Mike.
Kind regards, Hollandduck
If you turn that nob around you can work those buttons with your pointer and middle fingers. It might feel more comfortable to use. Love your content!!!
You know I thought about that as well. Similar to an excavator or skid steer. I may give it a try
Bones is turning into one of those beast from the movie “Rampage”😂💪👍🇺🇸
💪
You have every reason to be in a good mood about this achievement Mike. All your own work and a great result 👍😀 Excellent as always Mike 👍👍🇬🇧🇺🇸
Looking great - think you might be single-handedly increasing the value of old backhoes with this series! :) Looking forward to seeing what comes next. Machine looks awesome with that big grapple on there.
That Dirt perfect grapple
Captain Kleeman, that function kit looks really handy.😊😊
Thanks!
Well look at you go well done Bud one more attachment for the 555 👍👋🇨🇦
You used very creative solutions to resolving the installation issues. In a past life, I used clamps similar to the ones you fabricated. The only difference was we’d use heat shrink to cover the entire clamp to prevent chafing or clearance issues.
A little extra paint never hurts
Hint for when you do the extra funtion on the backhoe for the thumb:
Hard line (tubing/pipe...) is typically cheaper than the reinforced rubber hose.
That's why you see the hard lines on most long runs along frames. Learn to do the flair fittings if you don't already know.
Check pricing of tube and added fittings.
Save a few $$$ maybe.
Yup.
Hoses looking good 😊
Dreams of the 8 ball had me dying
🤣
Like a kid on Christmas morning. Any chance on a quick walk around the TH-cam yacht maybe on the other channel? It would give us a look at the progress that was lost.
It will be covered when we start back up on it
Can anyone else hear the little green Deere sighing in relief now that the triple nickel has a grapple on it??
Where is Capt Kleemans world HQs. 3rd function will make for great things. Thanks for sharing.
I have that grapple on a John Deere 710K tractor backoe and pushed it to its MAX!! The new one is on a JRB416 coupler and added 250# of steel to the square tube and reinforced teeth.
Thanks for taking us along with you while you "grapple" with the grapple installation. Love your positive attitude and ingenuity and genuine enthusiasm....makes for some great channel content. I always look forward to you videos. Keep up the great work.
A guy makes his own hose hold downs to save money yet rolls around under a machine in a designer sweatshirt. Unbelievable. What a world we live in..
🤣🤣
How else is he supposed to afford the sweatshirt? 😂
Lots of designer stuff at the Goodwill!

It’s called a joke and a bit of sArCaSaM. 🤦♂️
Love your hose clamps
Thank you
Look like things are coming together for you
Slow but sure
Hi, good job yet again 👍🐝🌞
Your comment about the paint running had me LMFAO good one Captain
Lol
need to get you some GripLockTies, they are rubber coated on the inside to protect what your tying to.
Weld looks good 😊
Mike, It looks like you could added a mounting bracket to the bottom of the top bar that goes across the front of the backhoe @16:17! That way, it is out of the way and you will not have to worry about damaging them if you attach them to a pipe on the outside of the machine (We know you record 😂😂). You can always add a flex strap to hold up any hoses to prevent them from getting in the way. "Use Extra Protect", "Avoid future little Headaches". Mike, someone saying things like that would believe that your talking about a 3rd function valve! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
on the boat you need the top of the door to be round
Hard work pays off! Kudos to you sir for rebuilding that backhoe, having a strong running machine is always a blessing.
It sure is
Great job Captain Kleeman
Nice job with your hose brackets LT !
Thanks! 👍
Yep, you're going to be even more productive with a grapple. And although I rarely feel like making suggestions, because usually you're several steps ahead of me, I'm going to this time. I added a bracket and bushings to the top edge of my standard bucket, and put what was essentially a thumb on top of it, that mated with the lower front edge of the bucket pretty much kept it on the whole time. (Have since replaced that tractor with a larger one, also with 3rd function). Was extremely handy in moving rocks, logs, and so forth, when I needed to do "bucket work" at the same time, and didn't feel like driving back to the barn to swap attachments. (Had just three pins and two hoses to remove the thumb.) Enjoyed watching, thanks, and take care.
Sounds like a great idea Dan plus the bonus of video content as Captain Kleeman fabricates it. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
DAN!!!!
Cap’n watching you Grapple with this upgrade was fun… thanks for the ringside seat!!!
I just want to clean and finish painting the machine. It would be so satisfying. Lol
Nice fabrication Captain. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Might look at old Whip antenna base
That is such an awesome build. How ironic would it be if the fire hose caught on fire while welding lol. The hose clamps/holders turned out amazing as well. Also your interview on few points from perfect was great. Thanks for keeping the videos coming.
Pretty sweet setup you got going on with the 555 now Kleeman
Thanks!
Great video buddy 👍
Well done. Grapple is my favorite tool for my tractor. More of most everything but less back pain from it. Hydraulics are great
Gonna be handy
Yep sure is a good thing you don’t have any rust on that there backhoe and love to see how well you’re taking care of those batteries😂😂
Rust free 🤣
I think Clint @ C&C Equipment is a dealer for those grapples.....
Now the 755 needs a third function from Summit....
Always enjoy the videos, Have a good one!!👍
The 755 has a third function already from summit.
thats some pro hose clamps there
💪
Hello Mike. Why buy brackets for the hoses when you can make your own that look just as good if not better than those at a store of some kind? with all of the rock on the property that might need to be broken, I think that attachment might find a place on the 555. Have good days!
Watched your interview with DP the other night! Very entertaining!! Great job on the tractor. Thumbs up! Jim
Glad you enjoyed it!
A 4in1 would definitely suit it u got a grab in it
Could be handy
Glad this worked for you. Great job.
Thanks!
The enjoyable part of watching you work and solve challenges as you go all the while making jokes and enjoying the journey makes for a great video. Your attitude is inspiring. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to all the projects you’ll be able to do with a grapple. Stay safe
So glad your setup works so well. Very innovative. You’ll be unstoppable now.
I have the 8 & 9 ball on My BH JoySticks and in honor of Dale Earnhardt, the 3 ball on My Loader Stick..
I had the 3 ball on My Jeep till I sold the Jeep.
Thanks Mike.
Mike M.
Great video Captain Kleeman
Mike, those hose clamps are first class! you could go into business making them. That grapple is like the missing link for you. Great job. Can't wait to see how the engine swap goes. That project is something I would have done, and did do, in earlier times.
How cool would it be if you won the CNC equipment tool giveaway.😂
That Summit Hydraulic kit seems very well thought out and put together right down to the joystick mount.
Not being able to use an 🎱 for the knob is a sacrifice worth making. The old ‘52 Massey Harris my Dad had had a pool ball shift knob. Wasn’t an 🎱 though. Probably was a billiards ball.
Definitely a nice kit. They are great to work with. I guess I could still do an 8 ball for the wheel knob
The amount of one liners you could put on merch 🤣
🤣
Way to go, Captain…love the new upgrade!
Thanks!
Bungee the fittings that you aren't sure where to put the bulkhead pate yet. Pull em away from pinch points. You might decide to just leave it that way.
Try using an oversized nut (if you have some) as a clamp spacer and just weld that in there between the 2 pipe halves. You won’t have to drill a hole through the center of the weld 😉
I am very proud of you. You make it work
Yeah what he said
I like your idea of no floor in the "cab". Makes it easier for maintenance 😮. Just throw a couple layers of carpet in there for sound suppression, when you run it 😀. Grapples are handy attachments.
You are doing a wonderful job and you look great in your designer shirt doing it and making your little homemade hose brackets. You keep on doing what you doing
Thanks!
Well done. Goal achieved to get third function on backhoe. Look forward to watching you use it.
You and me both!
That neat it looks almost factory Captain! 🇦🇺🍺🍺
Thanks!
Did you consider putting a piece of old tire inner tube between clamp and hose to decrease chance of friction damage.
What an amazing build here... I'm so impressed on how fast you had this up and running !! Well Done !
Great job no leaks and it’s working, glad you got good weather to work outside in. I’m up in Northwest Indiana, a few miles from when you came up to Gary and got that truck I think or something.❤ I will see you on the next one keep up the good work
Great video. love watching. You are having way to much fun ! Great job.
I bought attachment's from MTL Attachments which are cheaper than other brand's and well built. Two week's ago I just bought a brush hog for my skid steer and very pleased with it.
Appreciate the tip
Love the diy clamps! I'll be pilfering that idi're for myself. Never thought of that. Maybe see Titan Attachment's bolt-on hose spring for an idea for the pole up front. (not a sponser). Love my grapple and use it all the time. You're turning the 555 into a great functioning piece of equipment Cap'n. Your channel is GREAT! Thanks for the content and your great outlook on life. :)
I'll check it out, appreciate the tip
I came here from Koch dig drive diy and this video makes me so happy. I've been wanting an old backhoe and was curious if it's possible to run a grapple on one. Neil if you see this, your JD 310 would be pretty slick with a grapple and quick attach 😏
Neil is awesome! Welcome to the channel
Nice work Captain-this should be a big help with cleanup around the homestead. Any idea when you will be back on the YT yacht?
Maybe April
I was thinking the same thing about the springs. Genius
That works the charm. Nice bit of kit.
Captain my Captain 😊 Lovin the work AGAIN and for all you do 😮
The smile on your face says it all. The run what you brung situation is working out pretty good in your world. Hopefully someone helps you locate your own personal grapple. Keep having fun.
💪
Just think of all the possibilities!
The FRANKEN555 lives again. Is there anything it can’t accomplish? I don’t think so! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 😃😃
I like the clamps you made. Going to be much better than buying some electrical conduit clamps and putting those on there. What you made is probably going to be way more than you need, and last much longer than the cheap and easy version. Love the videos keep them coming thanks for giving me entertainment on your adventures
Your tractor is getting more and more handy to use, now with your upgrade’s, nice machine now Mike❤👍👍😎😎🍮🍮
Awesome video Captain!
Thanks!
👍 test the Ford 555 tell it breaks then fix it and have MBTS look at the welds.👨🏼🏭
💪
Load, help us all Mikes got a new toy.
Lol
