You and Matt cost each other money when you get together, but you two can make almost any old rusty stuff work!
Watching you with your arms inside that scissor mechanism without a safety had me scared!
I was worried a switch would stick and he'd drive it through the garage door or run it through the ceiling.
You were not alone feeling that. I felt uncomfortable watching it. Should have put in a stopper
Matt will want to re-po this fine machine
Fascinating how you're not bothered about your arms... I'd never put my arms into that mechanism without a solid backup stop, like a steel girder. Bet Matt is envious! Great work. 👍
I am in awe of Eric at South Main Auto for his ability to read automotive wiring diagrams and solve issues using various complicated test monitoring tools. But for sheer digging into complicated wiring issues you are number one, Sam. Except for changing a plug on a lamp cord electrical wiring has me baffled. Great repair with Big John's input. 👍👍👍🤩🏆🥇
Scissor lifts, the makers of widows and severer of limbs and appendages, Cheers from down under.
Yip, not to be messed with when you haven't a clue what you're doing. My heart was in my mouth watching them. Also shouting at the screen when they did anything trying to correct them lol. Need to get the correct batteries for it as they count towards the ballast of the machine. 4 x Trojan 105's or even better 125's. We have a fleet of over 1000 machines to look after.
After watching him go thru that electrical octopus my brain just melted. Amazing job!
Well done, Sam. You, Big John, and Matt got that baby working again. Now. . .keep it indoors and out of the rain, and it should last for many more years.
Matt will be pleased that you got it going. Probably rethinking whether he should of parted with it LOL
Matt has 3 or 4 of them running around from the auction. He's not worried.
Having everything on those slide out sections is such a good idea
Excellent work! Matt doesn't like electrical wiring, a bonus for you! Stay well stay safe!
My neighbor was always buying "stuff". And I was usually who he called to "look" at it. That meant working on it. He bought two Genie lifts at an auction. I managed to make one out of two. Some of the equipment he brought home was scary. Unfortunately, he passed about three years ago. If you have seen the floor scrubber Matt has, I worked for the competitor to Advance. Nice video.
Why the "quotation" marks?
You are doing a home repair job on something that could effectively take your life! You guys are heroes!
We have several pieces of equiptment parked down junk yard road. You guys have inspired us to look it over and go thru some of it. Thanks for the motivation..!!!
May want to consider some contact cleaner when working on those wire connections. I use it all the time on my electronic projects and it always helps. Also a flush and fill for the hydraulic oil. Love your videos. Thanks Matt for letting me know about your channel !
And that’s a revival!! Excellent job OSHA would be proud of you for using the safety on the lift!! thanks for sharing
Dam , nice job . Matt needs you at his place to help him do some troubleshooting ! You made that look easy.
What an uplifting episode - I feel pumped for another one😂👍👍
I'll do my best not to let you down! 😂

Nice! Now that you have the red handle pin crimper you need to get the pin extraction tool. Those pins and crimper are what I use on all my avionics wiring.
I think I saw him use the pin extraction tool, aka small flathead screwdriver. My experience with Deutsch connectors of that style, there is a little tab/lock finger that holds the pin in place. The locking wedge just presses against all the tabs to keep the pins secured in place. Simple tools are all that is needed to work on those connectors, besides the crimper.
Here is a video on my channel showing the tool and how it works.

Excellent video. You were definitely the winner in that trade. Thanks for posting and sharing.
Sam, all in all, with a bit of work and tinkering with it, and Matt's help with a new /old other control box, new plugs and recrimped wires and pins, a nice little working machine for around the shop. Great Video, Sam, thank you for sharing.
Good work getting the references and tracking down the circuits. Love how straightforward the repair was - that's some designed-for-maintenance excellence!
Guy's got more balls than me for sure, reaching under/through the lift mechanism on a malfunctioning machine! Glad he made it out with everything still attached.
As a side note about scissor lifts, Genie usually have a switch near the ground e-stop. It switches between ground up/down and platform controls. With it in "ground" mode platform controls are disabled, though battery indicator is still active. So you may think your joystick is borked, but it's just that function switch.
Speaking of joysticks, they are typically centered by a single spring. If they are not _perfectly_ centered when machine is turned on then the lift will throw a code and refuse to move. That's there to prevent any unplanned motion, but can be _very_ frustrating since simply tilting the platform control box is often enough to upset the joystick.
If its too much hassle to fix the lift so it is safe, try this.
Remove basket and scissors. Weld a regular engine hoist onto the frame. Change out the long travel jack on the hoist for a hydraulic cylinder. Now you have a powered, drive able engine hoist. You can also put a small hydraulic winch on it.
That Superliner in back ground is sweet looking truck
Awesome as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
Nicely done sir. Chasing electrical Gremlins can be maddening. Thanks for sharing, Bob from Virginia USA
Thanks and you're welcome!
Nice job on the revival. I remember when Matt bought that from a Richie Bros. auction. Great to see it back in service and in a good home.
I used one of those on my last job before retirement. It takes 4 - 6volt golf cart batteries and tried to repair the joy stick - had to get a replacement ($500.)
Excellent video, please keep them coming.
That’s. great of Matt to Share the Love with you, it appears you are an Ace in the Hole for Matt so it’s not gone unnoticed. Matt seems like an all around great Guy, I Started watching Matt screwing with Lawn Mower Engines and Snow Throwers in His Home Garage / Basement on Rain Days, quite a Few Ice Cream Seasons Ago now. I figured He would grow but Damn Matt went from XL Straight on to the MutherFucking King Ranch Flavor !😂😂 I’ll Catch You on the Next One, Keep it Safe out there Sir
Great repairs great video thanks Sam and Matt
Good Saturday Morning Sam..😊 Excellent video..Thank You..!!
Sam great job fixing that lift. Enjoyed the video😊
Nice job I have always wanted to buy one that didn’t work, but had no idea where to even start and learned a lot and will give it a shot. Thank you.
Mm, Bloody Dangerous piece of Kit that thing is, good work, glad its up & Running, driven one of these a few years ago, doing a clean up job for a Supermarket here in Cairns !
Way to go, guys! Great fix!

No doubt!
👍👍👍👍👍👌great trouble shooting and repair, nice addition to the fleet!!
Thanks you!
Nice job & nice approach!
Mission successful, no missing limbs and no holes in the roof.
Love the opening music Sam!!! Also like your editing. Keep it interesting. Good job on the lift!!!
Thank you! Many hours were spent in the editing booth on this one
Cheers for taking us along on this lets fix the scissor lift project bro. Safe travels. Ken
Great score, good watching
Shoo buddy i like the nice selection of equipment you have there, that is a generalist contractors collection for sure. Good job 👍
I’m impressed! 👍
Another good one, found you through Matt

Knock Knock... Who's there? The boss sent me... Who's the Boss? Matt🤣 Mat sent me, damned good video!! Keep em comming please.
Nice job. Good trade both parties got value. Ray Stormont
No wonder that Mat did not want the lift. He hates wiring with a Pasion!
Excellent job Scrappy! Hi from Michigan.
Hello from PA and thank you!
Nice job bud!
nice to see you to scissoring together!
A good friend of mine used to work at "Snork".....who knows, maybe he built that one. Anyways, he'd be proud of your work!
Cardinal shop rule #1.There must be lubrication...!!!😊
Great video Mr Scappy, a least you achieved success 👍🏻
Good job Sam👍🏻
Great video it's funny that the little tiny guy is called big John LOL
Now Matt I call him Big Matt
Good job getting that going . Now I think Matt has a few more that need fixing . What do you do for a living . Looks like you have a lot of nice machinery .
Great job
Thanks you!
Great video today. When you said Special Guest Star I figured it was going to be Matt. Haha.
nice job. Give it a good clean up and some paint. Looking New again.
Nice lift restore!!
Thanks!
Try using a Unibit to open up battery cable ringlet terminals. They are much less likely to grab and they leave a nice beveled edge on the terminal
I dropped my Scrabble game on the road!! The Word On The Street is that I'm clumsy!
It certainly wouldn't hurt to put some dielectric grease on all those electrical plugs and wire terminations its save you alot of grief in the future ! Nice save !
It will work fine with those two batteries, but the reason they designed 4 of them in at the factory was for counter-balance weight. Good job reviving it. Now get a old JLG lift and try it!
Not only that but you get more run time with 4 batteries
As a former scissor lift tech sorry but this was painful to watch. That being said i give you credit for sticking with it and working through it. It’s just the difference of factory training and applying what you know and making it work
I am a big fan of vaseline or a dialectic silicone grease on all the pins and connections before you even put them together. You would be surprised at how much longer that makes them last!
Good to See You Fella’s
When I saw the thumb nail I thought Diesel Creek!
Best way to fuck up a scissor lift is to lift it from underneath. There are two slots in the back by the stairs which are designed for picking it up. The doors that swing out that contain the batteries and hydro's only have a small pivot hinge on them. I mentioned it before on Matt's channel but it must have fell on deaf ears. Most have a sticker on them [ No Lift ] right where your forks were. But I still love your channel and keep up the good work. Not my lift.🍻
I was wondering what those "no lift" tags referred to. Thanks for the info!
Anyone else say bless you when he sneezed 😂. Like out loud. 😂😂
If you have a pin that won't lock you can use super glue to lock it down. If you don't want to replace the connector
The scissors lift is my father Jerry's. He's 82 years old.
Great project!! You’re going to have to Jack up the whole house eventually so you can put a new foundation…
I sure hope you have a safety block installed or your new name is Captain Hook 😮
audio was much better this time, good work.
Thanks for coming back! This has been quite the learning process
Well a proper scissor lift will keep you from performing OOOooooSHA Viooolations like Matt likes to does. Congrats on a great fix!
Maybe you already know this. But the lifts have forklift pockets on the end towards the steps.
Prevents undercarriage dings.
Rather figured this was DC involved With the thumbnail and the grader engine pull a few days ago. :P
Good swapping projects
Use the fork pockets on the ladder end to lift with a forklift, not under the battery box.
The negative there, positive there and the BANG there....
Ha ha ! All the safety!
what you call kick stands and called Pot Hole guards and yes if they don't see the limit switch the unit won't go up any higher and won't move at that point
Top work! How did you fix the top controls? Or just swap in a new top controller?
Matt had an extra control box, don't think it would have been a cheap part to replace.
Just be careful to not jack that thing into your nice ceiling 🤣 Don't ask me how I know.....
🤣
Matt isnt going to be happy he traded his scissor lift now LOL
Usually the switches are debounced so you need to press and wait
After all the research and experiments would it have been less work to replace the wiring harness?
I recognise that farm 🤔😂
The reason why it stops so far coming down straight away is because of its safety feature so nobody gets trapped !!!!!!
New sub here. Great channel.
Should the E stop button be a N/C contact on both ends ?
I was given two free new E stops to install on my machine which was missing them both. The wires were just wired into a N/C contacts already but no switches. Just wondering if these N/C contacts were the originals.
Can you use N/O contacts instead ?
Normally E stops are NC that way if a wire breaks it shops up as an E stop press. If it was setup for normally open a wire could be broken and you wouldn’t know until pushing the E stop didn’t work
KEEP YOUR ARMS SAFE! Otherwise you are doing a great job
👍 nice
How close are you and Matt from each other?
Big John from Iowa. Any connection to Larry Massdam?
