CLIP DESCRIPTION:
God (George Burns) appears to Jerry (John Denver) one last time.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Adapted by Larry Gelbart from the novel by Avery Corman, the film stars John Denver as Jerry Landers, the assistant manager of a grocery store who is chosen by God (George Burns) to spread the Word to the rest of the world. Not surprisingly, Jerry is soon labelled a basket case: even his loving wife Bobbie (Teri Garr) doubts her husband's sanity. But there's enough evidence on Jerry's side for a panel of prominent clerics to demand that the hapless fellow prove in court that he's the agent of God. Donald Pleasence was supposed to have an extended supporting role in the film, but the first cut ran too long, and Pleasence's dialogue was eliminated -- but not Pleasence himself, who retains his prominent billing and is seen doing precisely nothing in several scenes. Netting $30 million on its first run, Oh God was followed by two lesser sequels, both featuring Burns.
CREDITS:
TM & © Warner Bros. (1977)

John Denver didn’t do enough movies. He had a genuine quality that really shined in this movie. God bless you John.
Good die young. He's with God. For real
This is the only movie he was ever in as far as im concerned.
He turned down "Officer and a Gentleman" and probably others. Just wasn't his thing, I guess.
I loved John Denver's music, looking for Space was always a favorite.
I think his few movies were epic.
A man of few words.
Two classy men. Love it iconic well never see that again.
John Denver and George Burns were pure gold in this movie together...
Agreed. They were pure gold in this scene together. It was very simple yet there was so much wisdom. "You talk, I'll listen."
1:06-1:12 Believe it or not, I found encouragement in this part when I lost my job at my late age and was very worrisome. ✝️
I hope everything is great to you now, this is very inspiring, God Bless you Brother.
TFH Thank you, ✝️
Pray for me too, please. Im a caregiver

"You talk, I'll listen."
Amen. 🙏😌
R.I.P. George Burns. You were a great God. Enjoy your time with the real one, now.
Nope. God talks to us. And he's always with us.
The people of this country should watch this today in hopes of learning something ✝️
before Hollywood went insane. These are not actors, they are real people with soul.
Amen 🙏
Such a sweet movie..loved all the cast. Beautiful theme song..
Yes and I have to wonder if Bruce and Evan ALMIGHTY was an inspiration.
I would say yes.
The character of John Denver is beyond blessed. He was touched by the hand of God.
One of my favorite scenes in movie history
80s, 90s, NOW. This ending scene still moved me 😍.
I'm a fervent Atheist, but I adore this movie.
I'm an agnostic, and i love the nativity tale, a good story has that effect😊
Good for you 🙂👍
Your phrasing made me chuckle. Fervent synonyms: devout, pious, religoious...
0:50 I did, that was 40 years ago & I still do. I'll always think of God as George Burns. Humble and beautiful on the inside. When you meet people like that, be grateful for it is rare, now more so than ever.

Very few things make cry this did IDK why.
What a quaint movie. Much needed.
One of the BEST MOVIES EVER!!
One the GREATEST closing lines in a movie, EVER. Makes me well up every time!
I remember watching this as a kid with my dad (and probably mom, but my dad loved this movie and George Burns). Now I'm searching it to show it to my kids. Watching a few clips on YT and this is by far the move memorable scene and line. I gotta remember that and remember to talk to Him more often in my daily life.
u def picked a good movie to show to ur kids. well done
Love the music..one of my most favorite scenes...
You talk, I'll listen. That's how it's always been...
GOD.....is always listening 😇😇😇😇😇😇
Eziekle Crafts not really God always has his ears open listening while Satan is busy with his back turned wasting his time ha ha ha ha
So God has seen me burping, farting, picking my nose, scratching myself, spitting seeds into a cup... STOP LOOKING IN MY WINDOW!!
MyoclonicJerkCough YES GOD IS ALWAYS THERE 😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
Lol
MyoclonicJerkCough of course he is a pervert
the thing is.God talks us all the time.but we don't listen
Because it is "a still small voice" oftentimes ignored.
1 Kings 19:11-13 KJV
I love that scripture, because the voice of God and reason is a small thin voice as Tom Sellick always talked about in Magnum P.I. episodes.
I oftentimes hear that small voice and when I do not listen to it, I regret it.
Shame the awesome theme song at the end was cut short
One of my favorite movies!!!!
Beautiful movie
God rules
You talk I’ll listen 😢. Makes me cry everytime.
We miss both of them.
It’s so enjoyable to watch good wholesome movies n shows from the past. 😎❤️
This scene was so sad

Me too!! I forgot who composed it!

George burns was a great God i hope God is really like this?
lose a job.....save the world.....not a bad trade
- big G
Be great to pal around with God like that
If anyone, good hearted and decent, deserved to talk to God, it was John Denver. Lost too soon.
0:31 stray dog walked into scene.
Watched this with my mother earlier and very much enjoyed it! I'm just wondering where can I find the theme/credits song? It's absolutely beautiful and would love to listen to it when I'm doing homework and the like.
Good times🥰
In real life, I’m quite sure Jerry found another job within a week. I’m not positive, but in reality, a supermarket manager is actually a fairly humble job that doesn’t afford you a large home in the suburbs and able to support a family.
Back then it did. But you’re right - Jerry not only found another job, he found a better one.
“In the end, the Lord gave him twice as much as before!” Job 42:10
Jerry was touched by the hand of God so he is beyond blessed. Tracy, the little girl in Oh God Book II, was also touched by the hand of God and I bet she is also beyond blessed.
It probably is God he’s just in disguise so people won’t think it’s the real God. This movie was slow paced back then when they were alive but watching it while they are both dead in real life makes movie more watchable and makes much sense now with the title.
You talk, I'll listen? Nope. God talks to people. He doesn't just listen.
1977 not 97
USA used to produce this. Now we produce.................never mind.
1997? thats one year after george's death
Pretty sure it was 1977

1977 AMC Pacer....
This movie came out in 1977 why does it say 1997
It does say 1977 in the credits.
@Lisa Mathis
Oh yeah okay that makes sense.
Thank you.
I wish I could watch it again somewhere.
I can't find the name of the song that plays at the end and I've been looking everywhere!!!!!!

@@gigibucc1142 I found the piano sheet music online, with a player so you can hear a snippet.
It seems that it's titled "Theme from Oh, God!"

Nowadays, they'd leave Columbus out of the script. They'd include Gandhi or MLK instead.
There's unreality, and then there's a Valuable message in this scene:
31 seconds in, the script writers had George Burns (God) say that he likes animals. Not true.
Reread Noah's ark from the Old testament. According to that aspect of Christian mythology, God murdered the majority of all humans in the world - because of their wickedness.
The Christians God also murdered most of the (innocent, did no harm) animals, so for scene to say that God "likes animals", is biblically incorrect. 🤔
However - what is loved about this scene is the following genuineness -
"Everybody thinks I'm a nut".
"Galileo, Pasteur, Einstein, Columbus - you're in good company, hold on."
Brings tears to my eyes every time I experience that message.
😂👍
Babels
Oh my God, that car that John Denver was driving in this movie is absolutely HIDEOUS !!
HEY! The AMC Pacer was emblematic of suburban America 1977! Believe it....or not!
When God mentioned animals, a dog showed up
@@Wellch They purposely had the dog walk by because of that comment.
**shoulda left all the music in this!!!!!** **Also, the year is wrong, its 1977, """NOT 1997"""**
AMC Pacer, like sitting in a bubble, but engine was kinda crappy😀
A Catholic priest living above the Arctic circle mentioned to Charles Kuralt that God was a great listener but not much of a talker. It might be nice to have a little two-way from time to time.
1977, not 1997.
That Pacer is the big sin in this movie.
We had a pacer.
1977 **
I love the movie. It's a shame he mentions Columbus in his examples. Written by a person, understandable, it just sticks out to me.
We didn’t learn crap in 1977. We ain’t gonna learn crap today. What good does it do to watch a movie with a good message …
Which is a better movie, Oh God or Bruce Almighty?
Oh god is a bit of a better story, because it's focused on the development of the character while bruce almighty spends most of the movie on gags and goofs. Carrey is a better comediant, but I feel like this 1977 prodcution was more intended as a light drama, family picture while bruce almighty is meant as a 90's type of comedy with a romantic sub-plot.
So, if you want a more cliche but funny and energetic comedy, bruce alighty is the one, however if you feel more laid down and want to enjoy a relaxing and clever picture, Oh, god is for you
Good analysis, and I thought most Trekkers were atheistic.
"Oh, God" is a better movie than "Bruce Almighty" because it stands the test of time, despite the changes in society and technology. It starts with a terrific script and the entire cast is simply phenomenal. And John Denver as "Everyman" is perfect in the same way that Jimmy Stewart was in "It's A Wonderful Life," another classic that has stood the test of time.
This one. Bruce Almighty was a piece of garbage. Jim Carey is an idiot
Oh God
God is from NewYork, lol
I'm Brian Fellow's 🤓
The movie ending would have had a bigger effect if they had showed God (George Burns) actually disappearing from existence but they don't and the movie instead cuts to John Denver's face. Bad movie editing in my opinion.
Made in 1977.....
❣️😇🙄😌🙄😉😊🙃😊😊😇
I forgot how ugly cars were in the 70's
Haha yeah
Yeah I know, but the cars were made much much stronger back then, as far as the metal, it was solid metal, compared to the cheap fiber glass plastic today, cars then would annihilate the cars of today, if they went head to head, technology wise, today is far advanced, but that's the only advantage.
At least there were no bronco jeeps or suv's
I love this ending! It’s so effing cool!
