Convert MBR to GPT on Windows 10 without reinstalling Windows!

- In this video, I show how to convert from MBR to GPT on Windows 10! You won't lose ANY data and you don't have to reinstall! However it is always a good idea to have backups just in case!
Here are the commands I used (Be sure to run in CMD as admin):
mbr2gpt /validate /disk:0 /allowFullOS (If it gives no error, that means it can be converted and you can go to the next command).
mbr2gpt /convert /disk:0 /allowFullOS

Note: in Bios the legacy support may appear as "CSM", so you turn that off instead.

still super helpful, on a second pc I was working on I needed to switch it over to gpt for work, and this was a flawless guide!
This is an informative tutorial, and I also fixed by converting from mbr to gpt with ao mei partition this one is nice.

This worked! I was having trouble trying to get my computer to boot for windows 11 and I looked everywhere… I am so happy that I found something that finally worked. Also, to turn legacy off it might be CSM instead, so disable that. Hats off to you Julia!
This indeed worked, I was scared at first but now I'm glad to be running GPT, I have no idea if using GPT with legacy mode in bios now disabled will do me any favors but still happy it worked.
OMG! Thank you so much! I needed this! Converting my OS drive to GPT automatically enabled secure boot, so all I have to do what manually enable ftpm in bios, and now my PC is Windows 11 capable. 😁

This was really helpful! I upgraded my office pc and didn't know that intel 300 series boards and above don't have vbios compatibility with intel integrated graphics, when I learned that I looked up how to get my drive to show as bootable and one of the ways was to convert the ssd to gpt, this guide helped me do that!

Thanks, this worked as I needed to convert to enable Resizeable bar for my GPU as it doesn't work with CSM.
Holy crap, you've saved me so much time and trouble, holy frick, I was literally about to just reinstall windows 10 and just convert from mbr to gpt the hard way~ been on mbr since Vista, to 7, to 8 and 10, about move over to 11, thank you so much this video needs to be pushed out there more, also a thank you for one of the comments mentioning to switch csm off for some motherboards to disable legacy support~!

And for the "System reserved" partition, it is actually the UEFI partition that contains a lot of things like the boot logo of your motherboard manufacturer
If you somehow succeed to read and write on that partition you can change the boot logo (pretty cool, huh ?)

I have a question, I want to install Windows 7 on my second hard drive on my pc. I have many important files that take up over 270gb of storage on one of the partitions. Can you do this method without losing data? I am not using this hard drive for my windows 10 btw.

Hi Ma'am, I have hp and it has ssd hard that windows is installed on it, I tried many ways to convert it to into gpt but failed. Can u show me a better way ? Now the Bios is legacy. If I disable it then the computer doesn't show anything.
I enjoyed your video and wanted to add, some motherboards don't necessarily need to be switched to UEFI if it isn't an option in the Bios to still get GPT options. In case I use an ASUS P7P55D-E _2012-2013 model that doesn't have UEFI installed but still utilizes GPT. So does it help to have UEFI absolutely, especially when reinstalling Windows. Still the best way to take advantage of GTP on boot drives is to set it up before installing any Operating System.
Hi! One big question! If I turn my M2 boot partition from MBR to GPT and disable CSM ASRock in bios to switch from Legacy to UEFI, if I am lucky enough to boot into Windows, all the other 2 TB HDD which remain MBR will be recognizable by the system? Boot partition GPT and all other MBR...will work? Thanks!

So I converted the disk and plan to move the os to ssd so I can boot from it and save other data on hdd, I cloned successfully with partition assistant.

If i do this CMD thing to change from MBR to GPT will i lose any of my data in D? And will i have to reinstall Windows again?

It will only affect the drive Windows is installed on and it should not delete anything

getting windows 11 ready is like trying to get a achievment in games first i had to enable tpm and then convert my drive from mbr to gpt and then enabling uefi and then finally it is ready to upgrade to windows 11

Not easily. In order to move the OS over, you have to clone the drive.
When you clone the drive, it also copies the data over.
You could either:
Let it copy the data over, then format the HDD and copy the data only back to it and then delete it off the SSD or
You can copy the data to another drive beforehand and clone the OS then delete the data off the OS.
informative tutorial but failed while operating, maybe it's too complex for me.
