Nadia Comăneci is widely regarded as one of the greatest gymnasts of all time. She gained international recognition at the 1976 Montreal Games, when she became the first gymnast in Olympic history to be awarded a perfect 10, at age 14. From 1975 to 1981, Nadia became a 9-time European, 2-time World and 5-time Olympic Champion, and played a quintessential role in inspiring future generations of athletes around the world. Let’s take a look at the most difficult skill performed by the Romanian gymnast throughout her competitive career.

I maintain that Nadia has the prettiest aerials in gymnastics- she just floats!
I agree. Her front aerial is the best ever performed. She displayed more grace and artistry than anyone does today.
Like a feather in a beautiful world...
What distinguished Nadia's performances was the dedication to perfecting her entire body's lines. Not just a free cartwheel, the perfect free cartwheel.
After all these year still believe the uneven bar routines of both Nadia and Olga Korbut are the most thrilling and beautiful I have ever seen.
She is the best ever!
何年経とうと色褪せない
今見ても最高の美しさ
まさに白い妖精
Current gymnasts can't hold a candle to the grace of gymnasts from 70s-80s
Just like how the 80s and 90s gymnasts can only dream to be as athletic as the new girls.
Olga Korbut was as good as Nadia

She was so graceful and so strong at the same time. It was a beautiful combination I don't recall seeing in other gymnasts. Nowadays they just look athletic, but Nadia was like a graceful ballerina in the air.
Despite its low D-Score compared to today‘s standard, I have always thought that the Korbut vault is a piece of art.
Remember the equipment back then was arcahic compared to now so much harder for higher level back then.
Pure talent and real power.. Not bulked up like modern day gymnasts
👍👍👍👍
That’s still wild how close the bars used to be. Almost too close!
I was a gymnast back then. You could do far more with the bars closer. Now all the routines look the same. They used to have more variety when the bars were closer together.
NADIA COMĂNECI,A BEAUTIFUL GREAT GYMNAST ALL THE TIME,A WONDERFUL GREAT GYMNAST WITH 7NOTE OF 10,A GREAT SUPERBE GYMNAST FOR THE ENTIRED UNIVERSE!❤🌹
when Nadia was competing in the 70s and early 80s the highest difficulty level for a skill was .4 or D not like it is now 1.00 or J though there's currently only 1 trick rated J the triple twisting double back tuck on Floor exercise named the Biles II though the most Simone Biles has been credited for that move is .8 due to a step out of bounds at the US Olympic Team trials in June
the Biles II was created before in 2019
Forever Nadia ❤
@@jesuspalomo5143she first did it in 2018 if I'm not mistaken. It's been done by the men way before but I'm not sure which years specifically
@@murasakino101 she did it in 2019, in 2018 she did the Moors as opening pass, and in MAG it's before 2013 i think because Shirai during 2013-2016 debuted but the layout version
@@jesuspalomo5143 ah you're right, sorry about that! Idk why I thought she did it at the end of 2018 lmao. You're right about the men's version being before shirai did the layout version. I believe it's called the Miller in men's? I have to brush up on my MAG knowledge
As an athlete about the same age as her at that time not at Olympic level it was great just to see somebody pull off at 10but more than one was the kind of thing that grabbed the attention of everybody in the world 🌍
The Comeneci front, the flip on the high bar release move.
Nice type of video. Do it more like this
For some context, today’s point system makes no sense when reviewing this time period. It would make much more sense to say what the skills were valued at the time. Those vaults were out of 9.9 and 10.0 at the time. It really makes no sense to say what these are rated today (A,B, C….) when they were scored entirely different. Most of those skills were revolutionary for the time. Saying, a “double pike rated D” makes no sense for this video. Those D scores are the current values for these skills in 2024, and make no sense at all for analysis of the skills in this video.
But that’s the context. The whole point is to analyze those skills in today’s code. There’s plenty of videos on this channel that do the same thing from different quads across the sport
ALL
Nadia has a tendency to cowboy the landings when tucks are involved. Then again, from the looks of the video, she seems to struggle to stick landings. Doesn’t fall flat on her rear, but cowboys landings, lands in squats, and struggles to do the perfect legs together pose when landing.
Though her bar work and aerials are just beautiful. Like a previous commenter said, it’s like she just floats.
There used to be no requirement for legs together landings, at the time it was entirely acceptable in the code to step back with one foot for landings. It has been argued that the modern requirement for legs together landings puts more stress on the joints leading to more injuries.
@@owensmith7530 Didn’t know. Thanks for telling me. Learning is good!
@@SPDYellow Thanks. Personally I think a small step back on landing looks nicer artistically, it lengthens the leg that steps back and is a continuation of the movement. A dead double leg landing is jarring both visually and to the body.
Ihre Landungen waren perfekt
Thus speaks the "expert", who probably wasnt even born when Nadia began competing in '76. 🙄😂
all ratings according to 2025-2028 code of points? that's shady!!! then you should also judge biles according to a compulsory routine to see where she stands... haha!
She is still the best!
in 1981 she competed the vault Korbut and scored 10 but the vault had 9.9 start value, lol Ceaucescu offered money and golds to all judges at 81 universiade in Romania to give Nadia all 10's
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA😅😂
What is the vault korbut?
@@marguietbcn9497 front full to front
@@marguietbcn9497 It's a handspring with a full turn onto the horse and a full turn off. It's shown in the video. 🙂
I watched to see her beam mount that you teased in the thumbnail, but the video did not show it. Clickbait.
He didn't go into the straddled hecht-half on bars, either. I've always liked that skill.
Say her name right. Co ma neech. That’s how it sounds
Her name in Romanian is pronounced the way it is said in the video. So it's right.
Simone Biles is the BEST!!! 😊
No they have springs in floor after early 80’s.. nadia endured hard floor that made her great
@@thedemigoddess333 No. The first sprung floors were introduced as early as 1978. The floors at the 1980 Olympics were, in fact, sprung.
No....she is different. You can't compare. Simone is a tumbler. Note how the audience is waiting for the big spectacular tumbles. She is almost impossible at this amazing.
But Nadia is beautiful. It's about more than jumping higher.
Not Simone's fault. She's not responsible for how our culture has become impatient and focused on stripped down difficulty. Modern audience would probably yawn at Nadia.
