  • This is my review of the reMarkable 2 an eInk tablet for note-taking and viewing Ebooks and PDFs. After a month of use, I decided it was time to share my thoughts and opinions on this beautiful eInk tablet. Some good, some bad, but I think everyone agrees that it looks so good, it could be art. Anywho, hope you enjoy the review!

    The only people I’ve ever heard complaining about the magnet/stylus arrangement have the pen on upside down (point up) - it is in fact VERY unstable that way - turn it around the correct way and it snaps in place like it wants to stay…

    The feet on the back help to “lock” the unit into the folio and type-folio covers.

      I finally figured that out after seeing the case (I didn't purchase with the case). Someone also explained that it helps with slip as well.
      Thanks to the info and for stopping by.

      I'm using the Sony 6700 with the Sigma 16mm 1.4 for my main shots. It's a really nice combo... if you're okay with APS-C.

    It’s when it does a time-out sleep it keeps the last displayed screen up. It will eventually go to the off/sleep screen - I haven’t paid enough attention to know when exactly that is…

      Ahhhhhh, okay! That makes sense. Thanks for that tid bit. It should be forceable by the user for sure. Thats a useful feature to have.
      Laters!✌🏾

    My biggest complaint about moving to the e-ink devices is that my fountain pens are sitting on the shelf collecting dust… I really miss my fountain pens, but not enough to give up the e-ink. The Heart of Metal pen for the SuperNote (Nomad, A6X2) is closer than the reMarkable stylus, but still isn’t quite there...

    • @rantsabouttechnology
      @rantsabouttechnology  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hello, and I agree, the Super Note Pens are the only tools in the eInk space that can come close to the analog pens of old. That's actually one of the reasons I chose to buy a Super Note. You could always frame your fountain pens and make a whole memorial to their existence, lol. It could be good😂🤷🏾‍♂️

    very good video. Subscribed. Also im studying cs and my lectures are math + coding stuff. do you think it will be worth it? I have a Mac now and im planning to sell iPad. Thanks

      @rantsabouttechnology  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hello and thanks for the sub🙂
      The reMarkable 2 would be good for math as you would essentially have an endless sheet of paper to write out math exercises, formulas , and proofs. Plus making corrections would be way easier with this device. I would have loved to have it when I was taking Calculus. Now, coding is a different thing. Because you can buy a keyboard case with it, it might actually be good for that but I'm not too sure. Thanks for stopping by and Good Luck with classes✌🏾

    I know its main purpose is note-taking but since I primarily use e-ink devices as e-readers, I would love to see two physical buttons for page turning.
    My current Boox e-reader is touch screen-only and it annoys the heck out of me. I want to grab the thing like a book, without having to worry about accidental page turns.
    I would imagine with a device this thin, this is even more of a concern once you're leaving your desk.

    • @rantsabouttechnology
      @rantsabouttechnology  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I'd have to agree with you here. accidental touches is one of my main concerns with these devices. You could always just sleep it when handling it but that gets cumbersome after awhile. The Boox devices are the only ones, out of the ones Ive tested, that has a feature that turns off all touch input. You're just left with pen input only (except for swipe gestures for navigation). It's not perfect either, but I agree, physical buttons are needed.
      Actually I just remembered that there is a Boox device where the case has the buttons. So if you have the device in its case you would have access to buttons and could use those for page turning, and just turn off touch input. That might work for you. Take a look and lemme know what you think. Think its called the Nova Air or Nova Air 2 (7.8 in screens). GL.

    • @unvergebeneid
      @unvergebeneid 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@rantsabouttechnology Yes, I know there's a device _with_ buttons and I deeply regret I didn't go for it. I love my Nova 3 in general, how it's just an Android device and I can install whatever software I deem useful... beautiful. But the fact that they didn't just add two buttons to the left and right of the "home" button is a huge missed opportunity. The bezel is already there. I know physical buttons look "inelegant" but man are they ever useful.
      But yeah, tl;dr: I'm not making that style-over-substance mistake again. Any future e-ink device I buy will have physical buttons for page turning.

    I wonder if the feet are for friction rather than protection? To prevent it drom slipping all over the place?

    • @rantsabouttechnology
      @rantsabouttechnology  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      you are absolutely right. I've come to understand that they are simply for helping with slip. My script writer has been flogged for his lack of information. Thanks for watching. Only someone who actually watched the vid would have that kind of insight :)

    🙋‍♂The only issue at this point, how long will this device will last, which is already 4 years old with a Linux based operating system. With the Remarkable 3S being developed, there are many questions left open with no answers at this time. If the new Remarkable 3S comes out with Android, I have much doubt that they will be willing to maintain two operating systems. There are some issues with the Remarkable 2 and for the hardcore lovers of this device may not be a problem, but this device has limitations for me. Good review.👍 Kudos from NYC.🗽

      Sup Em. Agreed, The "New" reMarkable tablet is right around the corner. But I still don't think anyone has caught up to the rM2 design-wise. So it could theoretically be sold for as long as the design holds up. The pace of eInk innovation is so slow, rM2 could last for awhile longer.
      And the battle between that and the newly announced A5X2 will be epic. I can't wait for it.

    • @telockett9850
      @telockett9850 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@rantsabouttechnologyI agree about the design. I have had my reMarkable 2 now for 4 years and it works just fine for me, with its simplicity and features-less device. As an owner of a rM2 (2020), Supernote A5X (2022), and the Nomad A6X2 (2024), I find myself always going back to my rM2, i just love the design and writing experience over the Supernote. The rM2 is not perfect but the Supernote isn’t either. I’ve had more issues with the Supernote, particular the nomad than my 4 year old reMarkable. I love them both and I really like how a lot us rM2 user have the best of the both worked being using a rM2/nomad combination.
      The feet on the back is designed to prevent the tablet from sliding and there shouldn’t be a bubble. Form the Reddit group it seems with if its expanding you want to make sure you using the right charger because if not it cans cause the battery to swell if one of common things I’ve seen as one possible explanations.

    • @rantsabouttechnology

      Hello, and thanks for the info on the battery charger, I'll keep that in mind. My unit came bubbled up and just seemed to get worse over time. I reached out to reMarkable and they are sending me a new unit. Very good customer service over there.
      I agree that neither of these devices are perfect and both have strengths and weaknesses. Like rM2 ain't as feature-rich, but it's a waaaay better PDF viewer, and reader than the Super Note, IMO. They are both excellent note takers though.
      Honestly, I wanna try that A5X with its plastic screen and Mobius display.... (Drool) I hear the writing experience is awesome! Oh, and Nooow the feet make sense, lol. Nice!

      4 years ago when I got my reMarkable2, nothing else could hold a candle to it. 4 years later it’s still a strong contender in almost every scenario. I am loving the SuperNote, but as an augment to, not a replacement for, the reMarkable2 - there are STILL things the reMarkable2 does better.
