  • New eInk Tablets from Boox, the Go Series. This series includes a 7" Color eInk eReader, and a 10.3" Carta 1200 eInk Display Digital Note-taker. The 10.3" device seems to be going directly at reMarkable's market share. It has long been touted as the world's thinnest tablet, but with the Go 10.3, that title goes to the Boox line now.
    Leave any comments and thoughts below. Excited? Let down? let's talk about it. Enjoy!

    Thanks for the fun video! Love your style. I think the Go7 is just a reader, so no note taking stylus. The flexibility i think refers to the ability to add whichever rating apps you like. And yeah, its a new UI, but really just a new skin, the actual functionality hasn't changed much. 😊

      Thanks for stopping by Kit 🙏🏿. And thanks for the information on the UI, it's one of those things I geek out over. Looking forward to your take on these new devices. ✌🏿

      I have the new Kobo Libra Colour, and prefer their Kaleido implementation. They compromised the stylus in order to remove the Wacom layer, and it makes for nicer-looking colours and text. The price is substantially lower. Given that all I do on 7" screens is annotate documents and books (and Kobo has better PDF annotation) I'm giving this one a pass.

    Glass is scary on a device as thin as the Go 10.3, but if it's not as fragile as the reMarkable, it could be a promising entry. Especially at this price point. The cover has a kickstand function, so that's a plus as well.

      So wish they would have gone with a Mobius display. I am a fan of a good kickstand 😊

    The aesthetics of this Go 10.3 one are breathtaking. Even the case has had some very thoughtful design adaptations (can magnetically attach or remove pen flap as required). They always ship with pen but unclear right now if it will be basic or premium (with eraser on back).

    • @rantsabouttechnology
      @rantsabouttechnology  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I saw they made the pin clip detachable, and I meant to mention that in my video but I got so excited that I kind of went off script, LOL. Nice catch!! And thanks for the comment!

      @@rantsabouttechnology That flap ... it might just be a tiny detail, but those things do matter when using a device regularly:
      1) The folio of the Nova Air 2, for example, doesn't have a flap, so it is really easy to lose the pen.
      2) The Note Air 3 (C) has a flap, but it gets in the way when writing and often bends back onto the screen. Arghh!
      3) Now that the folio of the Go 10.3 has a detachable flap, all problems should be solved (as long as you don't lose the darn thing.
      --> Then we'd be back at 1). 😀

    Because the Kaleido 3 screen is darker and lower contrast, and thus requires a nearly "always on" relatively bright front light for comfortable reading, it requires a relatively larger battery for similar operating time as a B&W display. Outdoors it doesn't matter so much for text reading, so the front light can be turned off. I still find a B&W display better for indoor text reading, even though the color display at similar cost is hard to turn down in a full function Android tablet.

    🙋‍♂️Hey Roderick! I am an Onyx Boox fan and though many may criticize their software to some extent out of all the devices out there it is the most comprehensive in the market today. Though this is my opinion and others will disagree. Unlike Remarkable, there is no added cost to a subscription based storage system. Supernote Nomad is a great device, but the slide bars on the side that work when they feel like is annoying to say the least. Bigme with its exaggerated claims of speed and flawless performance fall short most of the time and I know this sounds like a "Rant On Tech" no pun intended. Many new things are expected later this year and for 2025 so, it's a wait and see game at this point. I look 👀 forward to the Boox Go 10.3 and to your review and opinions on new upcoming tech. As always, great content and kudos from NYC.🗽

      Thanks Em and appreciate your input as always. I see the Boox brand as being separate from the Remarkable (until now) and the Super Notes. It's the best option, to me, out of the eInk devices that run the (basically) stock version of Android - BigMe and I think Mobiscribe being another one. Out of those products Boox is hands down the best. But imo, again until just now, Boox has just been competing with those device makers, not remarkable and Super Note. With this new device, the reMarkable owners ARE the primary target here. And with reMarkable being the mainstream option, Boox could see a lot more light being shined on them if this launch goes well.

    This should wake up the remarkable people to get it in gear and release a 3rd version

    • @rantsabouttechnology
      @rantsabouttechnology  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      ReMarkable hasn't had a reason to release a new device. Ive been saying for awhile that as long as the reMarkable 2 was the thinnest and best looking, they wouldn't be a need to release a new device. Now that that's not the case, I suspect we'll see a new reMarkable very soon. Thanks for stopping by and for the comment.

    This is a good discussion. I still think Boox needs to decide what they want to be. They could have, and maybe will, create a focus mode of some sort to allow this to behave more like a Remarkable 2. Supernote is different in that it leverages selective integrations instead of the full Play store. I will be interested to see what you think when you get the actual device.

      Hey 👋🏿 thanks for the comment. I also think the Supernote platform is different, and that Ratta has positioned themselves in a very good spot. Was just mentioning to someone else in the comments that the Super Notes have personality and character. Something other companies can't manufacture. I mean... It's a really good product too 😂

    Supernote, ratta i think is the only one really putting the work in, the nomad is a great e ink device and i am sure a soon to be thinner A5x2 whatever will be amazing

      These new crop of 10" eInk devices has me all excited. Ratta has positioned the Super Note in an almost untouchable spot. Their attention to detail has led to the Super Note devices having something that these other companies can't produce... Character and personality.
      Thanks for the comment:)

    The go 7 might be a good Kindle replacement, also don't think it has not taking capabilities.
    And I really hope dark mode comes to older devices as a software update

      Yea dark mode looks so sweet the only dark mode we have now is a screen saver. Try it out. It's the clock one and it allows you to customize it to dark mode. Hopefully we get it system-wide on everything, soon. Thanks for the comment.

    Uh huh. Post a video showing how “easy” it is to switch between notes. After 3 Boox devices, I’m used to it. But these guys spend more time creating new, confusing product portfolio entries than basic design

    • @rantsabouttechnology
      @rantsabouttechnology  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      LOL. Couldn't agree more. I love Boox products and have a couple, but the reason you stated is why I grab the Supernote for quick notes and ideas (which is most of the time). So easy to jump between thoughts in a very easy and well thought out way. That Quick Access is a godsend! I've tried to recreate that with a links page but with no success 😮‍💨

    Want a RANT, ask me about the 7" being available in Black or White, and the 10.3" ONLY available in WHITE. If I want to look like an apple fan I'll buy apple stuff!!!

      LMAO!!! They had to match the remarkable (well not really, but yea). I think if they weren't taking a deliberate shot at the reMarkable 2 market, they would have made it black like all the rest. I definitely think there was a conversation had about that very thing. Thanks for the comment and the Rant meter was high lol.

      @@rantsabouttechnology If it was available in the NA3 color scheme, dark with the orange accent, I would have already ordered it to replace my RM2, just because reMarkable is so far behind on the software capabilities, I do love the RM2 hardware, but it's frustrating on the software!!

      64 GB is plenty of space. Remarkable has been telling people for years that the usable 6,5 GB out the 8 GB storage are enough, which really is laughable, but 64 GB is a lot indeed. You'd need many comics to fill that space. (But yeah, I get you, storage anxiety is a thing, though.) ;-)
