His mother said "If you close your eyes and listen, you will know him". He has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. He is singing of the land, the bush, the environment and his life. I don't need to understand the words to understand the song 🙂

I put this song on when I can't sleep.
Gurrumul has the most soothing tone.
    R.I.P. Brilliant man

He is self taught , so when he picked up the guitar as a left handed player, and the guitar was strung for a right handed player, so he just played as he heard it ❤

Very moving, Delta Goodrum did a duo with him of this song live on tv, it's beautiful! This has nothing to do with a race, he's from an isolated island and is uniquely himself! 🤗

    Gday mike
Because he was born in outback where there's very little of anything
He was given the guitar which was for a right handed person
So he made it work as no other choice and taught himself to play the guitar 🎸
He always played and learn by he hearing of pitch as blind
Like most people who lose one of their senses the other becomes more refined
This is my favourite one of his and like you i don't understand the language
But the tones and sole he emanating from him
Its hauntingly beautiful sound is the best way to describe this song
Its like when we hear some of your native people sing we might not understand the lyrics
But definitely can with the sounds and tones of the singers
    Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍

You’re right Mike. Many left handers choose to use right handed guitars upside down but usually they restring them so the base notes are at the top (Jimi Hendrix of course being the obvious example). Paul McCartney and John Lennon could also play each others guitars upside down, without restringing, Paul used a left handed and John a right handed! My son and I decided to try this yesterday and we turned our guitars upside down. We managed the basic chords but had to reverse strumming patterns lol - and that’s where I gave up! Gurrumul and Paul Kelly do my favourite version of Amazing Grace. Gurrumul played at the Queen’s jubilee in 2012.

@@Dr_KAP it's very difficult to strum left handed, most people are right handed! My father was forced to be right handed at school, but he always had a stronger left hand playing piano and tennis, he played table tennis left handed grip too! I must look up that Amazing Grace! 🙋

He is blind so did not know strings upside down....just picked guitar up, flipped it as he is left handed and taught himself to play by ear....INCREDIBLE

This is such a beautiful song. You can look up the English translation of the Dhuwal (Gumatj) lyrics, but there are so many personal names of people and places that it doesn't really tell us non-speakers much.

I'm very much on the same page when it comes to spirituality. I feel no need for organised religion. I know what I believe, I try to live by that. Gurrumul sings and plays, and it makes me feel a certain kind of way, peaceful and centred. I can't connect to all his people have endured, but his healing music is something I feel in my soul. ✌❤

It is one of their beliefs! Thank you SO much for this! This is BEYOND BEAUTIFUL! LOVE your channel! Peace and Blessings to you and yours from Australia!

I love the Aboriginal languages, there are so many dialects. They are soothing for some reason. Was just thinking, why did we learn French and other languages at school. I hope they teach some indigenous languages at schools now. As I said, it sounds soothing to me and sadly I don’t know one word of their language. I should, my son’s best man when he got married is Aboriginal - great bloke with a fantastic sense of humour. I should ask him to teach me a few words. I don’t trust his humour though lol, he’d probably teach me something nasty or a swear word lol.

Song is an important part of Aboriginal culture. Their customs, and culture are all passed down by song.

G'day Sheriff Mike, another thing you probably aren't aware of about Indigenous Australians, prior to 1967, Indigenous people were classified under the Flora and Fauna Act, and were not issued Birth Certificates at birth. Despite this injustice, Dr Gurrumal enjoyed expressing his love of his life through his Music 🙏

    • @jenniferharrison8915

    • @tacitdionysus3220
      @tacitdionysus3220 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The flora and fauna thing is not accurate. Indigenous people have had enough injustice without adding disinformation. The change in 1967 meant that laws concerning aboriginal people could be made by the Australian government, as opposed to by each state: and positive effects flowed from that.

This is a myth and needs to be stopped. Nowhere in Australia were indigenous people "classified under the Flora and Fauna Act" either at a state or Federal level. I've spent years researching for a local museum, including having to research indigenous local families, going back generations to the mid 19th century, here in Western Australia and most have birth registrations/certificates. That being said, I'm not detracting from the many injustices they suffered, such as being forced to live under the control of the Protector of Aborigines, the stolen generations of children, etc.
