My fave running gag of this show was every time he'd meet a guy he'd shake his hand, and they'd zoom in to only show two hands shaking. The zoom in had the same two hands every time, no matter whose hand he was shaking.
They weren't always the same two hands. Sometimes it would show a females hand, if he was shaking hands with a bloke. Or vice versa. Sometimes there'd be a darker skinned hand as well. But that was one of the funniest moments of the show, I have to agree.
The program is a parody as you will soon discover. A hint is in the name Coight. I couldn't convince my mother it was a parody, which made even funnier.
My favourite Russell Coight quote is: 'Some animals are nocturnal, others only come out at night.' I can't remember anymore from which episode or season it came, but I laughed quite a bit on that one because of his earnest daftness. Lol.
"I'll tell you what, if there's one animal you wouldn't. want to meet in a dark alley it's a salt water croc. Fortunately they don't live in dark alleys, preferring salt water instead"
My biggest laugh I had with Russell Coight was when he was putting fuel in the Land Cruiser and he realised he was actually using his water container. As he was standing there fuming at himself, he lifts his head, looking at the camera and shouts "the billy!!!' The camera then zooms in on his billy sitting, boiling on the fire as it explodes.... haha
One of the funniest scenes I saw on this, was RC was trying to teach kids how to hunt foxes at night. Told them they had to have a keen eye and to "Watch this guys"... Showing off... He then takes aim at a "fox" and shoots and all you hear is "baaaa" from a lamb bleating lol
@heatherwardell2501 I remember those episodes and there were much funnier parts to them. I still think you have to watch the whole episode to really appreciate it. I think the one with the girls was the one where he offers to help them pull the car out when it's bogged, from memory! 😂🤣 (thus why they end up in his car🤣).
Russell Coight is a classic series from Working Dog Productions, the group that brought us the funniest Aussie movie ever, The Castle. They've made a LOT of great comedy TV too, starting with The DeGeneration (a sketch show) in the 80s, and The Late Show ( a Saturday night variety show) in the early 90s. They've since gone on to make shows like Frontline (a Current Affairs satire show), The Hollowmen, Utopia (both Political satire) , Thank God you're here (Improv) and The Panel. They've been a huge hit on Radio over the years, starting with The DeGeneration Morning show on Triple M Melbourne in the 80s and 90s.
Russell Coight is an Aussie legend in what NOT to do in the outback. He's more hillarious the more you know the Aussie bush and it's dangers. "Doing a Coight" is something you don't want to be known for among Aussie outback types.
Glen Robbins, is a Aussie icon in comedy. I first saw him in the comedy company ( 80's Aussie comedy show ) he played Ken ( Barbie and ken skit. True Aussie comic genius, I've watched him in everything from comedy company to kath and Kim.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
His name is Glen Robbins, he’s done a lot of comedy shows but also serious acting roles. He wrote and produced this show, he’s a legend here in Australia and is still on few tv shows here. Also look up comedy company and fast forward. Old Aussie humour. Great vid and reaction mate 😉👍
He didn't produce it. Just wrote some of it. Also written by some in the Working Dog Productions group, Tom Gleisner, Santo Cilauro and Rob Sitch. The Working Dog Productions gang have also made many classic Aussie comedy shows and movies over several decades. Well worth checking out. The Castle being probably the most well known of their work. He's also great mates with Jimeoin. A fantastic Irish comedian. And was also on Jimeoin's sketch show back in the 90's.
This is comedian Glenn Robbins. As others have said he played Kel in the series Kath & Kim. He also played a forgetful, elderly character called “Uncle Arthur”
Bush mechanics you will definitely love watching. Bunch of aboriginal blokes travelling in the outback in their old beat up car. It's a comedy series. It's funny as.😂
Glenn Robbins, comedic genius. Funniest thing is there is always a grain of truth in everything Russell does 😂 Pity they weren’t the full skits. He often went back and forth with the skits throughout the whole show.
@HONDO MCLEAN definately, his best character he has played. You cant watch all Uncle Arthurs adventures without laughing for even a second. I think seeing Uncle Arthur was based off a loved one, he would make sure it was done properly. I wish he was brought back.
@HONDO MCLEAN Aahhh yeah thats right, it was on sunday night, and fast forward was wedneday, I could never really get into Fast Forward. When The Comedy Company finished, a new skit show took its place and it did not disappoint, Full Frontal. My favourite skit show was full frontal, mainly because I loved eric banas characters. Poida, when poida was the host of Sale of The Century for one night was one of my favourites. But no one beats Uncle Arthur as the funniest character in any aussie skit show.
There's been no decent Aussie skit comedy shows since Skithouse. The Mavis Bramston Show, The Naked Vicar Show, Aunty Jack, The Norman Gunston Show, The Big Gig, The Comedy Company, Fast Forward, Full Frontal and Big Girls Blouse. So many great shows in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. Since then, no-one has been able to make a good sketch show, sadly.
The best Russell Coight skit I had watched was when he was showing his viewers on how to use a firearm correctly. It went south very quickly but hilarious.
"And with binoculars, you can see even further" russells book of coightisms is an Aussie version of Confucius Russell Coight season 1 is the best season as the other seasons re-use the jokes and physical humour as in season 1. Adding to season 1 being better is not knowing when the humour will come and how.
Russell Coight is a parody of 1980's Australian adventure exploration shows like "The Leyland Brothers" & "Malcolm Douglas" it was pretty cringe but occasionally hilarious 👍
@@edwardfletcher7790 Actually, many others can also see the connection to the Buch Tucker Man programme also. He was very informative about survival techniques as well. Yep, the show is a definite pisstake. Australia was simpler place back then, for better or worse! The Russell Coight character is a send-up of iconic bushmen like Harry Butler, whose show In the Wild ran in the 70s, and Les Hiddins, whose show Bush Tucker Man ran in the 80s or 90s I think. Les was a former army major and became quite a celeb through his show. Glenn Robbins, who played Russell Coight, is also hilarious in Upper Middle Bogan. Hopefully you can find some clips of that on YT.
This was our favourite series here in Australia. I fell asleep on a plane trip watching Steve Irwin and woke up to to Russell Coight for my first ever viewing (the surname is a slang word for bum hole ie … you’ll get a kick in the coight if you don’t wake up to yourself.) It took a while to realise I wasn’t watching Steve Irwin anymore. All Aussie Adventures in an honouring and ‘piss take’ on many Outback adventurers, eg, the Leland Brothers, Les Hiddens, Alby Mangels and many more.
Coights is game played with an upright peg onto which you throw a round shaped ring. His name 'coight' here in Australia also is a comedy reference to ring/anus so his name is actually part of the joke!
@dearasia9812, Yes I remember the fun We all had playing Coights when We were kids with the rope type rings & the stick on a flat base on the ground & also the other version where You threw them over hooks on a round board, about the size of a dartboard, on the & wall & each hook had a different number on it & at the end of the game You added up all the numbers that Your rings went over & whoever got the highest score was the winner of the game, & also some of the old sayings that were around at that time too, like ahh stick it up Ya Coight, &, if I see You doing that again, I'll give You a good kick up the Coight, I remember an interview from Rove Live when Rove asked Russell about his Surname & He said that it was a name of Dutch origin meaning, Wide Round Opening.
I remember a show back in the day on abc called Jeopardy and it’s about the Scottish teens and their teacher taking a trip to outback Australia and they have an alien encounter. No one talks about this show anymore so good.
Glenn Robbins was in The Comedy Company/Full Frontal and Fast Forward, basically a staple of the early 90's Australian Sketch Comedy, like 'Col'n Carpenter' etc :)
A bit of background, there were some very popular shows like Bush Tucker Man which explored the outback and survival in the outback including looking at all kinds of plants, animals, and insects that are very useful for surviving the harsh environment. This show starring comedian Glenn Robbins as the titular Russell Coight is kind of a parody of those shows.
The comic genius who is Glen Robbins, he has done lots of comedy shows, my favourites include him as Kel in “Kath and Kim” and “Upper middle class bogan”.
Yeah this is a take on those aussie survival and wild life shows we grew up with on abc in the 70s and 80s, most notably The Bush Tucker Man. Coight's series gets funnier and funnier too you need to watch all of them!
Glen Robbins is well know for his rolls in Australian Comedy, classic comedy skit shows like the comedy company, fast forward and full frontal, worth a watch I think you will like them. his career goes right back to the 80's
Yes, Russel Coight is kind of spoof satire comedy. Glenn Robbins, Australian actor, played Kel Knight in Kath & Kim and b4 that he was in The Comedy Company ( Uncle Arthur)

Russel Coight is cut from the same cloth as someone you might know. Kenny Everett Video show's DIY guy, Reg Prescott. Look for the sketch where Russel makes a Bush smoothies, using a blender connected to a car battery, via a transformer
They're a load of shows made. I really love it. Coight is slang for name for the arse hole. As well as the game, where the coights are circular like an arse hole. Some of the early shows are the funniest!!

it was in the news not too long ago, that a little girl was bitten by a tigersnake and was able to survive by remembering the first aid tips she saw from Russell Coight on All Aussie Adventures
Not sure if you are aware of this but Tony Robinson did a program in the 80s or 90s where he was searching for the true King of England because there was some dispute about the legitimacy of someone back in the 1400s who was born outside of wedlock. He did eventually trace the Plantagenet linage ( Richard the Lionheart bloodline) to some tiny South Australian town where the descendants of the Plantagenets lived since the 1950s. Oxford educated and well aware of his clim to the throne, wasn’t interested in the least. He had turned his back to his heritage and loved the simple life of the Australian outback. His daughter’s were unaware and couldn’t believe it, one of the girls had a young male child who was a declared a Prince by Robinson. That should amuse you , if you look up “the true king of England” with Tony Robinson you will find it.
The taking a nap after driving for hours is a legit thing. My dad does it often as he often has to drive several for his work and I live an 8 hours drive away from my parents so when he’s driving with my mum they just swap over for a bit.
I’ve drove across Australia a couple times. Been through the outback. Depending on the time of year and where you are it can be nice and tranquil as you put it but honestly 90% is a legit barren wasteland when you’re in remote areas. You’d never wanna be stuck there
All Aussie Adventures, there are 3 seasons 1 and 2 from 2001 and 2002 and season 3 2018 seasons 1 and 2 are the best. Russell once said that he remembered his fathers last words when he said "son have you put the parking brake on" lol.
Back in the day....Australian TV seemed to be inundated with outback adventure-themed shows. It was only a matter of time before someone spoofed them.... enter comedian, Glenn Robbins as Russell Coight (in Australia a coight is a slang term for an arsehole). As soon as this show appeared, the majority of the outback adventure shows, disappeared,
8:31 I think this show was originally intended to parody and old show from the late 80s/early 90s called Bushtucker Man. Coight dresses like him and does all the survivalist stuff, but always ends up with something going wrong, where the original show was serious. I always felt that Irwin was a bit cringe compared to Bushtucker Man, but different focus, I guess.
Russell Coight, the clumsiest, most hapless outback expert in Australian history!🤣🤣🤣
My fave running gag of this show was every time he'd meet a guy he'd shake his hand, and they'd zoom in to only show two hands shaking. The zoom in had the same two hands every time, no matter whose hand he was shaking.

That should amuse you , if you look up “the true king of England” with Tony Robinson you will find it.
the funniest one is when he makes a stool out of wood.
Russel Coight is played by the same actor as the Colin Carpenter character you have also reviewed
Love Russell sooo funny
LMAO, well done!
The taking a nap after driving for hours is a legit thing. My dad does it often as he often has to drive several for his work and I live an 8 hours drive away from my parents so when he’s driving with my mum they just swap over for a bit.
Glenn Robins was in comedy company back in the day
check out some of his other iconic personias
like Uncle Ted etc etc
Glenn Robbins (Aus comedian) played a character called Russell Coight, outback adventurer. He was an idiot who was always stuffing up.
I’ve drove across Australia a couple times. Been through the outback. Depending on the time of year and where you are it can be nice and tranquil as you put it but honestly 90% is a legit barren wasteland when you’re in remote areas. You’d never wanna be stuck there
Fyi, in Australia “Coight” is slang for arse.
Another outback show worth a look is the Bush Mechanics.
Coight rhymes with 'quoit' - old Aussie slang for arsehole.😂
Yeah that's exactly what it is!
All Aussie Adventures, there are 3 seasons 1 and 2 from 2001 and 2002 and season 3 2018 seasons 1 and 2 are the best. Russell once said that he remembered his fathers last words when he said "son have you put the parking brake on" lol.
Russell Coight is taking the piss out of 'The Bush Tucker Man' and 'The Leyland Brothers'
I don't remember this taking off on Aussie TV.
Haha my friends n i had a joke if who ever was driving got little stuck we sing the theme song normally it was my now husband
well worth the effort
