Honestly I completely get why 4's is at the bottom of the barrel lol especially with dreadnought being such a useless move I always forget it's there and exists 🤣 good vid tho bro 👊
The Dreadnought armour was kinda useless though bit DMC4 RG just punishes anyone trying to get a feel for the timing. Thanks my G really glad that you Enjoyed it
Ah there being different windows for each game is a misconception. The Royalguard window in 3, 4, and 5 is 1/10th of a second at normal speed (6 frames at 60fps) and 1/12th of a second (5 frames at 60fps) on Turbo. The Royalguard window never changed. I think it's just the different ways enemy attacks are animated per game that makes it feel different. I'm sad you didn't talk about the move they swapped out each game though that is understandably not part of how people use it. DMC3 has Ultimate which can't Royal Guard but has you heal from blocks instead of taking chip damage. 4 has Dreadnaught continuously spending Rage to be invincible as an astonishingly useless ability (you can only get rage by using Royalguard am I expected to chip damage myself all the time to spend on a few seconds of invincibility instead of learning the invincible parry!?) 5 has Royal Revenge allowing you to spend Rage to enter a counter state and auto fire back on the next attack that hits you.
Well I did forget to add in a segment talking about the ultimate moves for each Royal Guard and when I replayed the games for the video I legitimately felt that DMC5'S Royal Block timings were more lenient in DMC5 and that DMC4 had a really tight window
You forgot to include the alternative abilities of Royal Guard in each DMC game when the style level of Royal Guard is maxed out. Such as Ultimate, the healing shield ability in DMC3, Dreadnaught, the passive super armor ability in DMC4, and Royal Revenge, the auto counter ability in DMC5.
Ultimate (DMC3): niche, several uses like Beowulf's "SPARDA" attack Dreadnaught (DMC4): cool, but long startup makes it useless, especially considering how long it takes to gain Rage Royal Revenge (DMC5): sounds neato but i've yet to play it
I didnt know that dodge-rolling and blocking gave you a better chance of doing a successful perfect bock, but I always used to jump before blocking. Without jumping, I mess up the block 2 out of 3 times. With jumping, it's roughly 1 failure every 3 blocks.
My Royal Guard Experience: 1st time fighting Vergil 2: "You will know the Devil's Power" *Runs for dear life* 4th time fighting Vergil 2: "You will know the Devil's Po-" *Deletes health bar*
Every Royal Guard has the exact same amount of leniency, 6 frames (roughly 166 milliseconds). The only difference is that DMC3 has two types of Just Release, (they don’t have official names so everyone calls them Silver and Gold Release) Sliver Release has the exact same 6 frames of leniency that the other games have, Gold Release has 3 frames of leniency which is obviously twice as hard. If you’ve ever noticed you take damage during a Just Release that’s a Silver Release. Objectively DMC3 has the hardest Royal Guard, although I agree that 4 feels the hardest but it’s really not. Also, Guard Cancelling should’ve been included in this ranking. Guard Canceling is half the reason Royal Guard is as good as it is in 3, Guard Cancelled Spiral shots can probably carry you through the entire game on DMD, which is both a testament to how good Guard Cancelling is and how underrated Spiral is (and guns in general, guns are absurdly strong in DMC3). In 4 it’s basically limited to giving you crazy movement with Million Stabs, and in 5 it doesn’t exist because it’s so slow (I will never forgive them for what they did to Million Stabs).
Well I found out about all the Royal Blocks have the same 6 frame window after I uploaded the video but when I was playing the games I had a feeling that 5 had much more forgivng than in DMC3 and 4 after getting used to DMC3's Royal Guard I found it to be aton of fun using it but if I'll talking about guard canceling I'll reserve that for a video about hidden mechanics
@@Devil-Joe I get that. Also, I forgot to include this but Distorted Royal Release in 4 is like top 5 strongest attacks in the entire series (up there with Red Hot Night, Ultimate Tempest, and Distorted Beast Uppercut) but I can’t do it consistently enough to confirm that, it’s incredibly hard to get a Distorted Royal Release at all, let alone an optimal one.
@@Devil-Joe I’d recommend trying Distorted Straight first. Distorted Straight is much harder than Distorted Real Impact (also does a lot more damage) but not as hard as Distorted Royal Release and much easier to practice.
"Also, Guard Cancelling should’ve been included in this ranking." absolutely "guns are absurdly strong in DMC3" absurdly strong? outside of guard-cancel shenanigans, no. very good? absolutely. "In 4 it’s basically limited to giving you crazy movement with Million Stabs" perfect guards still give a stock of DT and negate damage, though i hate it no longer pushes back lesser demons
Guard Flying has very little utility outside of combos, inertia in general has very little utility. It’s an incredible positioning tool in combos but I can’t think of a single practical application for Guard Flying.
@@assassinonprozacmovement, to eacape big aoe attacks or to fly around the battlefield quickly, it's not just limited to combos idk where you got that idea.
@@scottyj8655 You never, ever need to move that quickly. Berial’s aoe attack is the only time I can think of where it’s somewhat useful and even then it can be consistently and easily dodged without guard flying, (I’m pretty sure you can literally just jump over it) and Dante has trick up which is much faster, much easier, and doesn’t require you to have an enemy to jump off of. There is no reason to learn guard flying if you’re not a combo player as everything you can do with guard flying (with the exception of in combos obviously) can also be done more easily and more effectively by something else. And I got this idea from actually playing the game and using guard flying.
@@assassinonprozac who gives a fuck if you "need" to do it, it's dmc, doing unnecessary things to look cool and have fun is a big part of identity of the series. It's why movement in combos exists because it looks nicer than just being glued to the enemy. If only being optimal mattered you'd just jump and dodge to avoid attacks since it's the least risky, but then that'd be boring and not dmc.
I'd love to see a ranking of which game you think has the best Dante overall . I know people have different opinions on which Dante they have the most fun with.
Due to the quadruple S skill, DMC5 already has an advantage. I couldn't play the other games completely because I borrowed them, but I played DMC5 way too many times. just seeing DMC3 and 4 gameplay with other demon weapons makes me curious, but living on a world where quadruple S doesn't exist seems sad
I never got the hang of RG in DMC3. Even if you blocked 90% of attacks perfectly and 5% normally, those last 5% can easily kill you. Getting staggered from a hit or your guard broken opens you up for more hits. Even one mistake among a hundred blocks can kill you on DMD. I can't even imagine blocking Vergil's combos consistently. With AoE attacks, I wouldn't even have considered blocking, since I don't know how to time it and it looks like a continous source of damage rather than one hit. Without style switching, it's a way bigger commitment to use Royal Guard, since it limits your moveset and you're forced to make it work in every situation.
Thanks my dude really glad that you enjoyed it so you'd give the championship title to DMC4 RG then to tell you the truth I see it's potential in DMC4 RG I just have to unlock it
@@Devil-Joe Tbf dmc4 rg doesnt have much going for it, dmc5 have the DT blocking and the auto-counter Dmc3 has healing counters and roll-blocks Dmc4 is very bland and very VERY difficult I just like it more because im a masochist, very heavy opinon as dmc3 or dmc5 are clearly better.
@@scottyj8655 dmc3 rg is the most complex for the types of blocks it has, normal block, jump block, roll block, heal block The STYLE itself has a lot going for it on its own Fly guard is more of a dmc4 gravity in general, and for 90% of the time its just to look cool, very rarely used for doges (only examples i have are the faust spikes and sanctus' fireballs) So yeah the style itself in 4 hasnt got a lot compare to 3, but the dmc4's mechancis are Hope i made it clear.
According to the wiki, the perfect guard timing is the same across three games. Also, you should talk about the techs come with each RG. I see a few DMC3 speedruns use RG to cancel the attack animation (like in DMC1) to kill the demons faster. DMC4 RG is pretty bad, but guardflying is sick as hell.
Gotta check the WIKI on that one for some reason when I played each DMC the perfect guard timing felt different to me if I'm being honest when it comes to advanced tech I'm thinking of making a whole video dedicated to advanced DMC tech
@@Devil-JoeThat's because of hitboxes. As the games progress the more frames of in-between animation could be there. In older action games there's many instances of moves just being WAY too fast. You have to remember your parry is the same but the enemies are different
@@Devil-JoeYou got to remember my man, DMC5 is the only game that was made in 60 fps. It being 'easier' is usually people just being able to track the abilities more precisely. If EVERY game was animated in 60 fps, it'd probably feel more similar.
Aren't Royal Guard windows the same across the board in all the games? Always 6 frames The only difference is that DMC4 and 5 have Royal Release be the same window as perfect guard at 6 frames, whereas in DMC3 a Royal Release is 3 frames (which is ridiculously hard imo. Especially with ps4 input delay) I didn't play 3 half as much as the others, but its very open take on guardcancels is definitely exciting and gives the style a ton of use it just lacks in later games RG in 4 is... really bad.. I feel like it takes ages to build up for not nearly enough reward.. Dreadnaught is fucking terrible. The one thing it has going for it is guardflying, but that's moreso to be attributed to inertia and not the style itself In 5 I appreciate the accessibility, but I also think the DT chip damage cost is maybe a little too forgiving? I saw someone fighting King Cerberus once, severely struggling, so I told him "You can just hold guard", and when he did he was able to just tank Cerb's massive phaseswitch explosion, while losing I think half a rune of DT or something for it. It is nice that it's there but feels extremely unbalanced. On the other hand tho, DMC5's back+RG move is by far the best he's ever had. Severe improvement over Dreadnaught and the weird health shield imo
there are actually two different guard & release timings, at least for 3 & 4, both Gold and Silver Guards will negate damage, but a Gold builds significantly more rage. If you ever noticed taking chip damage and not getting knocked away in either game, you got a Silver Release, which does a bit less damage than Gold. i disagree with RG in 4, its still very powerful since Perfect Guards still negate damage and give a full DT bar, but i wish it still staggered lesser enemies as that's one of the best things about it in DMC3, particularly on Must Die where aggro is through the roof and then some.
@@dmas7749 I was too lazy to be more specific, I definitely know of 3's timed release having two variations (Kept finding myself going "Wait, shouldn't this hit way harder" when I released dudes, and then noticed I was still taking chip damage, so there was clearly a medium stage before a proper royal release). There being a version of the perfect guard in 3 which build more RG gague than the 6 frame one, I can definitely buy, since Release has the same split. However... you really sure that's also the case in DMC4? In 3 my knowledge is quite lacking, but I played 4 a shitton at this point, and I don't think I ever noticed a stronger variation of the royal release, nor the perfect guard. Would be the first time I heard of that EDIT: Also, you're right. RG in 3 deflecting certain enemies and staggering them for a time is really fucking cool. In 4 the only enemy that responds to being guarded are the bianco angelos I think, and even then, it doesn't really open them up to keep you safe, it instead makes them ready up another shieldbash.
from what I read, the timing is still the same in dmc5 (6 frames), but it feels more lenient for some reason, theres also the thing with dmc5, probably because of animation interpolation, that you cant jump block like you could on 3 and 4. maybe that was on purpose to make up for it
i honestly think 5's at the top for a very simple reason: cost:benefit. the time spent getting good at it in 3 and 4 could've been used to get better at other, more useful and stylish stuff. 5's however, not only has VERY forgiving windows, it rewards you for using it by giving you both royal bar and DT meter to use in other stuff. while also not requiring a huge time sink to learn the timings. it's both easier, and more useful than both previous versions while still sounding great.
Im sorry dude you put 4 as the last because it’s hard? I mean ain’t that the the whole point, it’s risk reward ppl complain about it or say it’s discouraging it’s just a skill issue hell it’s hard for me but if one person can perfect parry all of the attacks you. can also 4 is the only game where “guard flying” is possible and that in of itself had a whole new level of gameplay you’ll never experience with the others.
Missing a timing resulting to a break stunlock animation is one thing that always kept me away from this style. I'm glad DMC5 changed it, after i mastered that RG, i returned to DMC3 and omg, it feels so good to use it there when you know how to use it. Essentially, exactly RG got me through a nightmare of a Bloody Palace. I remember one stage with like 6 Hell Vanguards that always killed me. I beat it only after i mastered RG, which says a lot honestly (also, because RG has a healing ability for casuals, but we won't mention that).
The best thing about DMC5s royal guard is that it helps out in enjoying DMC3s ridiculous Royal Guard yup I do remember that bloody palace stage it was nothing short of an absolute nightmare
@@Devil-Joe this and hitting a tiger drop on Yakuza are the best feelings you can have after accomplishing them. Tiger drops are a tad bit easier because the time windows are bigger, but it's still satisfying to drop half a health bar in one counter, then sending them flying across the street.
it makes timing it more lenient because you won't get hit during i-frames. if you are in a hit box during jump/dodge invincibility and you tap guard, you guard it on the first possible frame. even if you're a little early, you still have the perfect guard window.
tbh i think dmc 5 is the best.No downgrades, extreamly easy to use since you can hold, massive dmg and its overall pretty easy to understand how to p block with it
Jumping and rolling provides buffer and I-frames for the timing when "supposedly" you're still being "attacked" by the enemy but Dmc3 royal guard is fast and skip frames, that's why it self corrects dante's position and reads it as a perfect block. Another thing about rg in 3 is you can allow rapid fire for spiral and AK by rg-cancel then shooting. RG maximizes dodge potential, damage potential, shooting potential and it got charges like QS and Doppelganger . It's all the styles in one.
I personally think DMC 5 handled Royal Guard the best, but I also get 3 being the top. 5's is the "okay, you got this one down. Now go master the other 2 games."
DMC5's Royal Guard is amazing to use don't get me wrong they even managed to strike a perfect balance between difficult to use and beginner friendly on the other hand DMC3 feels ridiculously good once you learn how to use it
I am pretty sure guard timings are the same in all games the reason why 4 royal guard is so hard too learn is because the enemys telegraphs are horrible and unclear when an attack actual does damage , if you tryed royal guard the mephistos finger attack in dmc4 you understand what i mean Also Royal release is actually even tigher than a normal block if i remember correctly , the window is 4 or 3 frames rather than 6 or 7 for a normal block And by the way most off the footage off RG you showed in dmc3 didnt have a perfect royal release YES you heard me right ROYAL RELEASE IS EVEN MORE POWERFUL IN 3 A true perfect release is when dante flys across the room and doesnt take any chip damage during the royal release and it deals even more damage , same rules follow for 4 but 5 made it so if you are a tiny bit off you only deal less damage with royal release but dont take chip damage but i cant blame anyone for not knowing that Royal release is really tight and hard too get down but oh so rewarding I love royal guard in both 3 and 5 its such a good style too add for dante and allows you too mock enemys even harder but we dont talk about dmc4 royal guard i am pretty sure it has the lowest damage from a royal release and it takes more time too fully charge royal guard than the time it took too make dmc5 And last fun fact in dmc5 having Dt active makes it so you get more Rage from guarding regardless if its a perfect block
When DMC5 came out I say all the OP shenanigans most players were getting up to after my first playthrough so I've seen a tutorial for the style and I tried it out after some practice in 5 Block timings started clicking with me but not releases timings yet so I went back to the other games to test RG out for some reason I found that the most leaniant timings for perfect blocks were DMC5 for me I had a feeling that 3 and 4 were tight all this time I looked the timings up on the DMC fan WIKI and found out that royal block timings are the same across the board
@@Devil-Joe Funny how experiences differ , for me dmc3 timings feel the most generous , 5 timings sometimes i miss , althought this mostly aplys too jump guarding ,normal guards i have the smae consistency in both 3 and 5

@@dmas7749 Whaaaat??? You absolutely have to play 5. It is freaking AMAZING!!! But for a devil may cry fan, it's weird seeing you say you can't choose between 1 and 2. 2 was the worst but honestly I liked it. It's like comparing resident evil 2 remake to resident evil 3 remake. 2 is legendary but 3, although very fun, could've been better.
I'd say DMC3 is my favorite though aspects from all the games that are more preferable but the risk and reward from 3 is easily the most satusfying in my opinion. DMC3 royal guard is a bitch to learn but it's easily worth it as you learn to use it and omg the first time you relieve a boss of 70% of their health, you are the hype. DMC4 I will openly admit as a casual player I'm not a big fan of the way Dante handles without getting used to him (you all know how clunky that game is when your learning it), regardless of that though damn the feeling of turning into a literal invincible walking tank with a maxed out meter, "So... are you even gonna put effort into breaking this?" DMC5, it's average as you've already had the enjoyment of deleting anything that crossed your path with Royal Revenge from the last two games plus RG flying in 4 and the parry is just a free hit, yeah it just doesn't vibe with me. ALTHOUGH, I will say it's the best one for a newcomer to the series to first master. If I could make my own version of RG this is how I'd build it: The actual parry for a Royal Block in DMC3 against a standard enemy is without a doubt an amazing feature as it rewards you with not only meter but an opening you can play off of unlike the standard block in the other games. The Juggernaut from 4 as I never found much use for the heal in 3 and dislike the auto parry in 5. Having the meter charge DT and if the gauge is empty have a 50/50 chance of either block shatter or chinking your HP plus the guard walk. As for sounds, Royal Block & Normal from DMC 3 and the standard Block & Royal Revenge from 5.
For real? There was also a clip of DMD vergil in DMC3 being beaten in 7 seconds with royal guard and DT burst but I can't seem to find it anywhere it was an old school clip back when DMC3 was a relitivly brand new game

Hey dude, nice vid. I love the RG style. Although i have a quibble with DMC 5 RG. Ive noticed that outside of boss battles, RG is not really optimal. The game gives you plenty of parry opportunities against RG friendly enemies such as the Angelos that the risk/reward ratio is just not as good as in the dmc 3. Why block when you can easily party with King Cerberus and juggle the enemy in the air? Dmc 3 RG stuns regular enemies after a perfect block. Also RG feels a little unnnatural in DMC 5 where enemies dont swing at you as frequently as in DMC 3 . Many times i find myself waiting for someone to hit me , even in DMD. Lastly, the biggest issue of RG against regular enemies is that many times i am unable to really differentiate/identify a particilar enemy within a group. For eg, when you face a group of Riots, its sometimes difficult to hear the audio cues of a particualr Riot. Also ive noticed that since certain enemies have a long channeling animation before their attack, it becomes difficult to anticipate a offscreen attack when you are manipulating the camera. I usually never face this issue in DMC 3 where each enemy has a distinct visual and audible cue. I always know which Hell Sloth or Hell Lust is attacking me even if there are 4-5 of them in the screen at the same time. I dont think i can do that with a group of Hell Antenoras.

I barely use royal guard I experimented in the 3 games it's in but never really used it in 3, only to that achievement in 5 but I use it semi regularly in 4 specifically against the Savior In that one graveyard where the secret mission wants you to raise style with our damage,I think a few standard blocks and 1 or 2 royal blocks should so it instead of using Nero
No you're not I'm aware of Fei Long's block pose its the exact same as the Royal Guard pose capcom loves referencing street fighter Mega Man into alot of their games hell there are God Hand references in Devil May Cry 5
Enemy attack telegraph is the key factor as to why dmc 5 rg is easiest despite it retaining the same active frames. Some enemies in 4 had easy to read telegraph while others were almost instant. Dmc 3 meanwhile, almost everywhere was almost instant.
@@Devil-Joe I personally don't see DT drain as a factor because it doesn't matter whether it is the health resource or the DT resource that falls upon imperfect RG. If you're able to do perfect RG consistently, they don't play a factor at all. It's all about which game you're able to do consistent RG in and why. Sekiro is the same in that respect. Normally, if you do an imperfect deflect, your posture bar fills up which, you want to keep as low as possible in that game. However with a difficulty modifier you unlock later on, you will also lose health when you do an improper deflect. The entire idea is to push you into learning how to deflect properly. In that game enemy telegraphs are generous and the deflect active frames are 12 frames IIRC.
5 scores higher for me because they figured out what to with the rest of the style’s move list as far as Royal Revenge and the Devil Sword Dante buffs.
Wonder what the frame windows are on these? Can't find it with Google. If DMC4 is like 2-4 frames that is TOUGH. Almost exact timing required. 10 frames is like a Third Strike parry. It's doable but you really have to know the attack. More than like 15 frames is getting into redactable territory. Would still require some practice though.
@@Devil-Joe Ah thanks. Found the frame windows for DMC3 according to some old reddit post. Looks like DMC 3 and 4 are 6 frames which is pretty tight. basically a Street Fighter III 3rd Strike parry (Which is 6f if you hold the direction or 10f if you tap). Street Fighter 6 Perfect Parry is 2 frames for a more modern reference. All this to say people might be able to practice timings for stuff in Third Strike. Maybe. LOL
Royal Guarding a Blitz in DMC4 is the best but DMC5 has to take it because it's got some skill variation, you can learn timing while spending DT so noobs can be introduced to the style and game mechanics without actually throwing.
@@Devil-Joe Yeah tbh that's true, hitting the Teleport is really hard, the laser beam is much easier though - thankfully. No lie, I thought the “ultimate” abilities were gonna get considered in this ranking, since it’s completely different each game. Or even at least consider how Dante’s Summoned Swords in 5 modifies the style. Nevertheless, cool ranking.
To be honest after finishing the video up I ended up realizing that I should have added the ultimate abilities in but for Dantes summon swords that can be saved for an entire video of the Devil Sword Dante because the summon swords effect almost everything. Thanks for checking the video out my dude and I'm glad that you enjoyed it.
You didn't even compare their ultimates when you reach their max level. Like how in DMC3 you can heal from 0 to 100 in a few seconds if you use it in front of the ball spam during the Jester fights.
i thought it was just me, nothing can top DMC3 Royal guard, While I do love the sound and the effects of the 5th game, DMC3 royal guard was so much more satisfying. but in terms of the extra abilities, I have to give it to DMC5 and the auto parry, (I'm looking at you fury, yh you can't touch me now you jerk). in DMC3 the healing shield will break too easily by a slightly stronger enemy, the armor thing in DMC4 takes forever to form (and why would you use it when you have DT).
Well after experiencing with DMC3 Royal Guard I found it to to be the best one out of the bunch because of how satisfying guarding is and oh that Royal Release in 3 is something else
Royal guard in 3 is a great mix of both hard but satisfying gameplay. You can negate almost all dmg with perfect guards and royal release is satisfying to pull off. 4 sufferes from annoying enemy design who break your combo with its rng attacking enemies 5 is the beginner friendly version. It's easier to normal guard and perfect guard timings aren't as tight as dmc4.
3 is the more balanced Royal Guard and DMC5 is the most beginner friendly one but DMC4's RG is way to strict and Royal Releases aren't the most powerful ones in the series

I think it's just the different ways enemy attacks are animated per game that makes it feel different.

DMC4 Guard flying is insane and hilarious though. Truly the wacky woohoo powers
I've seen people use it its the definition of bat shit insanity in a kick ass way
Every Royal Guard has the exact same amount of leniency, 6 frames (roughly 166 milliseconds).
@@assassinonprozac I should give distorted Royal Release a shot
@@Devil-Joe I’d recommend trying Distorted Straight first. Distorted Straight is much harder than Distorted Real Impact (also does a lot more damage) but not as hard as Distorted Royal Release and much easier to practice.
"Also, Guard Cancelling should’ve been included in this ranking."
absolutely
"guns are absurdly strong in DMC3"
absurdly strong? outside of guard-cancel shenanigans, no. very good? absolutely.
"In 4 it’s basically limited to giving you crazy movement with Million Stabs"
perfect guards still give a stock of DT and negate damage, though i hate it no longer pushes back lesser demons
I mean, if you take into consideration royal flying DMC4s royal guard is best
Well yeah that makes sense but Guard Flying mainly comes from inertia but I might need to revisit DMC4
Who’s paying you to not get all of the health upgrades
I don't know where all the blue Orb fragments are
I'd love to see a ranking of which game you think has the best Dante overall . I know people have different opinions on which Dante they have the most fun with.
Yo thanks for the idea I'm gonna be adding it to the pipeline
For Royal Guard in 3 is tough and it's a grind to learn but once you know how to use it you'll get to witness how OP it is
Love the energy on these vids joe, fun stuff😂
For me it goes like this :
Accesibilty : dmc5 RG
Complexity : dmc3 RG
Masculanity : dmc4 RG
Thanks my dude really glad that you enjoyed it so you'd give the championship title to DMC4 RG then to tell you the truth I see it's potential in DMC4 RG I just have to unlock it
@@Devil-Joe
Tbf dmc4 rg doesnt have much going for it, dmc5 have the DT blocking and the auto-counter
Dmc3 has healing counters and roll-blocks
Dmc4 is very bland and very VERY difficult
I just like it more because im a masochist, very heavy opinon as dmc3 or dmc5 are clearly better.
@@CurayziDante But DMC 4 has Guard Flying but again that was done on accident
How is dmc4 not the most complex by default when stuff like guard flying and skyrunning exists? Genuine question not trying to start a fight.
@@scottyj8655 dmc3 rg is the most complex for the types of blocks it has, normal block, jump block, roll block, heal block
The STYLE itself has a lot going for it on its own
Fly guard is more of a dmc4 gravity in general, and for 90% of the time its just to look cool, very rarely used for doges (only examples i have are the faust spikes and sanctus' fireballs)
So yeah the style itself in 4 hasnt got a lot compare to 3, but the dmc4's mechancis are
Hope i made it clear.
@@Devil-Joesame, it felt clearly easier to do in dmc 5 compared to 4 as an example
We fucking love inertia
@@Devil-JoeThat's because of hitboxes. As the games progress the more frames of in-between animation could be there. In older action games there's many instances of moves just being WAY too fast. You have to remember your parry is the same but the enemies are different
@@Devil-JoeYou got to remember my man, DMC5 is the only game that was made in 60 fps. It being 'easier' is usually people just being able to track the abilities more precisely. If EVERY game was animated in 60 fps, it'd probably feel more similar.
Videos like these make me question why didnt anybody make a remake for DMC3 - everything stay the same and only graphics are slightly tweaked
Capcom might be thinking of doing something like that infact maybe the new netflix anime might be a testing ground for that sort of thing
Aren't Royal Guard windows the same across the board in all the games? Always 6 frames
The only difference is that DMC4 and 5 have Royal Release be the same window as perfect guard at 6 frames, whereas in DMC3 a Royal Release is 3 frames (which is ridiculously hard imo. Especially with ps4 input delay)
I didn't play 3 half as much as the others, but its very open take on guardcancels is definitely exciting and gives the style a ton of use it just lacks in later games
RG in 4 is... really bad.. I feel like it takes ages to build up for not nearly enough reward.. Dreadnaught is fucking terrible.
The one thing it has going for it is guardflying, but that's moreso to be attributed to inertia and not the style itself
In 5 I appreciate the accessibility, but I also think the DT chip damage cost is maybe a little too forgiving?
Would be the first time I heard of that
EDIT: Also, you're right. RG in 3 deflecting certain enemies and staggering them for a time is really fucking cool. In 4 the only enemy that responds to being guarded are the bianco angelos I think, and even then, it doesn't really open them up to keep you safe, it instead makes them ready up another shieldbash.
Dmc 5's Royal guard is the best for me.
It's fun to use not gonna lie
@@Devil-Joe Very fun. I love the sond effect and the sensation of block.
from what I read, the timing is still the same in dmc5 (6 frames), but it feels more lenient for some reason, theres also the thing with dmc5, probably because of animation interpolation, that you cant jump block like you could on 3 and 4. maybe that was on purpose to make up for it
While playing DMC5 I felt the timing was more linieant I found that all 3 games have the same 3 second window after uploading the video
the timing in every game is the same 6 frames but dmc4s enemies are just kinda mediocre and fast
After uploading the video I found out that the Royal Guard timings were the same across the board if I'm being honest
In my opinion, I think dmc 5 is no 1, because royal block can refill your dt gauge during dt.
In DMC 5 the Royal Block refills the the DT Guage generously

I'm quite pleasantly surprised myself
i honestly think 5's at the top for a very simple reason: cost:benefit. the time spent getting good at it in 3 and 4 could've been used to get better at other, more useful and stylish stuff. 5's however, not only has VERY forgiving windows, it rewards you for using it by giving you both royal bar and DT meter to use in other stuff. while also not requiring a huge time sink to learn the timings. it's both easier, and more useful than both previous versions while still sounding great.
I see what you when RG is easier to learn then you can learn some cooler tricks in DMC5
@@Devil-Joe yea, it also lets you go into SSS rank super easy to start doing quadS combos
Well I did mention that I had a skill issue my thoughts might change later down the line
Gotta admit, startedplaying DMC3 and evrytime i hit a Royal Guard i can feel the purest input of testosterone rising
For real because of them tight timings it has more to do with enemy patterns
@@Devil-Joe this and hitting a tiger drop on Yakuza are the best feelings you can have after accomplishing them.
Tiger drops are a tad bit easier because the time windows are bigger, but it's still satisfying to drop half a health bar in one counter, then sending them flying across the street.
IS it true in DMC3 that while jumping or doge rolling you get a perfect guard every time ?
Yup but you still gotta time right if you're off by a couple of frames the guard could brake
@@Devil-Joe ok
it makes timing it more lenient because you won't get hit during i-frames. if you are in a hit box during jump/dodge invincibility and you tap guard, you guard it on the first possible frame. even if you're a little early, you still have the perfect guard window.
Guys we all know royal guard is the best royal gaurd
Yup that is right on the money
Goated dmc 5 royal guard to me is the best and wins the game
5 cause I suck at using it
tbh i think dmc 5 is the best.No downgrades, extreamly easy to use since you can hold, massive dmg and its overall pretty easy to understand how to p block with it
Jumping and rolling provides buffer and I-frames for the timing when "supposedly" you're still being "attacked" by the enemy but Dmc3 royal guard is fast and skip frames, that's why it self corrects dante's position and reads it as a perfect block. Another thing about rg in 3 is you can allow rapid fire for spiral and AK by rg-cancel then shooting. RG maximizes dodge potential, damage potential, shooting potential and it got charges like QS and Doppelganger . It's all the styles in one.
Devil may cry's version of a tiger drop
"Dante is more than capable of shooting out the biggest load that'll obliterate a shit ton of crowds" we can tell
I mean hey I was trying to describe the orgasmic feeling of a Royal Release
I was expecting the crowning is for 5, the least pain in the as to learn and has additional exquisite move 8:01
True but DMC3 has to be the tightest one out of all of em interms of fun with blocks and releases
2:20 its easy mode
I personally think DMC 5 handled Royal Guard the best, but I also get 3 being the top. 5's is the "okay, you got this one down. Now go master the other 2 games."
DMC5's Royal Guard is amazing to use don't get me wrong they even managed to strike a perfect balance between difficult to use and beginner friendly on the other hand DMC3 feels ridiculously good once you learn how to use it
Gonna be honest. DMC5 made royal guard just a bit TOO forgiving.
Some people thought so as well but it got more people into using it
I am pretty sure guard timings are the same in all games the reason why 4 royal guard is so hard too learn is because the enemys telegraphs are horrible and unclear when an attack actual does damage , if you tryed royal guard the mephistos finger attack in dmc4 you understand what i mean
Also Royal release is actually even tigher than a normal block if i remember correctly , the window is 4 or 3 frames rather than 6 or 7 for a normal block
And by the way most off the footage off RG you showed in dmc3 didnt have a perfect royal release YES you heard me right ROYAL RELEASE IS EVEN MORE POWERFUL IN 3
A true perfect release is when dante flys across the room and doesnt take any chip damage during the royal release and it deals even more damage , same rules follow for 4 but 5 made it so if you are a tiny bit off you only deal less damage with royal release but dont take chip damage but i cant blame anyone for not knowing that Royal release is really tight and hard too get down but oh so rewarding
I love royal guard in both 3 and 5 its such a good style too add for dante and allows you too mock enemys even harder but we dont talk about dmc4 royal guard i am pretty sure it has the lowest damage from a royal release and it takes more time too fully charge royal guard than the time it took too make dmc5
And last fun fact in dmc5 having Dt active makes it so you get more Rage from guarding regardless if its a perfect block
@@Devil-Joe Funny how experiences differ , for me dmc3 timings feel the most generous , 5 timings sometimes i miss , althought this mostly aplys too jump guarding ,normal guards i have the smae consistency in both 3 and 5
@heliax9924 yeah people do experience game mechanics differently that's in my opinion the true beauty of video games but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter which Royal Guard we're talking about because they're aton of fun to pull off weather it's Royal blocking or releasing its really rewarding

It's odd that the final ability of Royalguard in all 3 games wasn't included in the video.
DMC4 I will openly admit as a casual player I'm not a big fan of the way Dante handles without getting used to him (you all know how clunky that game is when your learning it), regardless of that though damn the feeling of turning into a literal invincible walking tank with a maxed out meter, "So... are you even gonna put effort into breaking this?"
DMC5, it's average as you've already had the enjoyment of deleting anything that crossed your path with Royal Revenge from the last two games plus RG flying in 4 and the parry is just a free hit, yeah it just doesn't vibe with me.

Hmm that might be a reason why 5s Royal Guard was easier plus draining DT instead of health played a factor too
@@Devil-Joe I personally don't see DT drain as a factor because it doesn't matter whether it is the health resource or the DT resource that falls upon imperfect RG.
How did you get sparda and rebellion on the equipment bar

Dope my dude bet you're having fun braking the game
Wonder what the frame windows are on these? Can't find it with Google. If DMC4 is like 2-4 frames that is TOUGH. Almost exact timing required. 10 frames is like a Third Strike parry. It's doable but you really have to know the attack. More than like 15 frames is getting into redactable territory. Would still require some practice though.
For some reason it felt a bit tighter in DMC4 the parry window but after putting the video out I found the frames were exactly the same
@@Devil-Joe Ah thanks.

I have seen them Agni and Rudra Royal Guard strats on DMD some of em make that boss fight look ridiculously easy
Royal Guarding a Blitz in DMC4 is the best but DMC5 has to take it because it's got some skill variation, you can learn timing while spending DT so noobs can be introduced to the style and game mechanics without actually throwing.
Royal Guarding Blitz is difficult my dude
@@Devil-Joe Yeah tbh that's true, hitting the Teleport is really hard, the laser beam is much easier though - thankfully. I always kill Blitz the same way: Begin to swing rebellion and royal guard block when the hit connects to de-cloak without taking damage then afterwards use rebellion 2 hits then Darkslayer 2 hits and repeat to stun-lock him until he uses red lightning then RG his lasers and he just suicides or if you have enough RG hit a release to insta-kill.
@@Devil-Joe i think it's kinda easy
(i only have 37 hours in-game and also play on vanilla xbox so no turbo mode, maybe it's very hard in turbo mode but idk)
I started in dmc 3 special edition didn’t see no style switch button it said my style is trickster pre selected and at statues I can switch
Well when I started I put the tutorial on just to get an idea of how the game works
I did that tho and that helped but since I played dmc5 before I already knew what to do and now I know that there no style switch lol
Is the gow retrospective series done?
Nope I'm working on it still
Dantes block can also get broken in 5 from boss attacks atleast some of them
For real most of the time they were broken in boss fights because I ran out of DT (that's what happened to me anyways
@@Devil-Joe in some cases your guard gets broken regardless of dt I know Goliath has one attack in particular that if dante doesn't perfect parry he will get shunned same with geryon and cerberus but it's rare for them to throw out the attack and dante can only fight Goliath with mods or bloody palace those attacks act a lot like dmc3s where you either perfect parry it or get your guard broken
3 on switch is the one I use it most otherwise I love 5s rendition cause it’s a free style mode.
Man I would do anything to play DMC3 with style switcher capcom should patch the HD collection to include free style for all DMC3 copies
@@Devil-Joe if the rerelease of the had collection on ps5 there’s absolutely no reason it shouldn’t.
DMC 3 As Always!
I found Royal Guard in DMC3 to be the most fun in the series
Bro has delivered another goated vid
Thanks my dude really glad that you enjoyed it
I love ur content its clearly inspired by extremegameplays but mainly dmc, can never get enough of it ur hella underrated
Thanks my dude I really do appreciate it I'm glad that you're enjoying the content my G yup my content these days is inspired by Zesty's content with a Devil May Cry coat of paint that I'm not hiding
Thanks for checking the video out my dude and I'm glad that you enjoyed it.
great video!
Thanks my dude I really appreciate it I'm glad that you enjoyed the video
niceu
Thanks My G really appreciate it glad you liked it
@@Devil-Joe Always a pleasure DJ. :)
I remember managing to chip over 70-75 percentage on VH against last Vergil fight. Man i can still remember my reaction lol
Which DMC was that my Dude DMC3 or 5?
3
That damn Royal Release is too powerful Vergil was almost dead I probably bet the reaction was emence bouts of endless hype
@Devil-Joe it could have been easy mode or devil explosion plus gold release, thus, skipping fase 1 and 2 of virgin
DMC3 has the best "Royal Guard" to me 💪😈 great video, Devil 😃👍
DMC3 is aton of fun to use and thanks Mary I really do appreciate and I'm glad that you liked the video
You didn't even compare their ultimates when you reach their max level. Like how in DMC3 you can heal from 0 to 100 in a few seconds if you use it in front of the ball spam during the Jester fights.
While writing the script I forgot to include these I should have mentioned em actually
i thought it was just me,
nothing can top DMC3 Royal guard, While I do love the sound and the effects of the 5th game, DMC3 royal guard was so much more satisfying.
but in terms of the extra abilities, I have to give it to DMC5 and the auto parry, (I'm looking at you fury, yh you can't touch me now you jerk). in DMC3 the healing shield will break too easily by a slightly stronger enemy, the armor thing in DMC4 takes forever to form (and why would you use it when you have DT).
4 sufferes from annoying enemy design who break your combo with its rng attacking enemies
5 is the beginner friendly version. It's easier to normal guard and perfect guard timings aren't as tight as dmc4.
3 is the more balanced Royal Guard and DMC5 is the most beginner friendly one but DMC4's RG is way to strict and Royal Releases aren't the most powerful ones in the series
