    Sorry for this video being so long, I’m still figuring out what all to put in videos like this and what I can leave out so they aren’t too long or too short

      Thanks for the video. It wasn't that long compared to how much work you did. You might need to zero your neutral after doing this mod.

      I like this video a lot. You did really well with the camera and showing what you're talking about. A lot of install guides struggle to do that as well as you did. Thank you for sharing. I'm definitely doing this mod asap. I hate the slop with my 17' st. I can tell right away when you're shifting that there's a huge difference

      do not apologize my friend! you did a good job both with the video and additional explanation.👍 If someone finds it too long it can still be sped up or skipped forward, but you included what you thought was necessary. thanks!

    Don't forget you need to reset by pulling the red clip out on the cable put the gear lever in fourth gear press the red clip in again job done.

    Instead of super glue you can use Lanolin Grease as it is very sticky and won't harm any components.

    Definitely going to install these this weekend, my shifter just started to get REALLY sloppy the other day.

    I know this was almost a year ago. But when you disconnect the shifter cables you have to pull out the white clip and put the car in forth. Push the clip back to reset the gear position.

      I tried but the clip would not move. Any idea how to move it essily?

    good content, I have the cable end bushings, I want to do the bracket bushings. Thinking about doing lightweight battery at the same time... I really don't want to deal with the base bushings and interior plastic removal.. 17'ST, 29k miles.

    • @Nickjoenap
      @Nickjoenap  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah you’d probably want to do the battery and bracket bushings at the same time. I didn’t want to deal with the interior bushings either. Definitely makes it feel a lot more solid

    Very helpful video! Just one thing I noticed, I ordered the Boomba racing bushings for the transmission bracket and it says to install the thinner bushing at the bottom (between the transmission bracket and transmission). I don’t think it makes much of a difference but just an FYI.

    Where does the longer bolt go on the shifter plate? 3 bolts and one is longer. Any idea?

    I get what you mean at the end, my car does that in 3rd sometimes, so Ima have to try this out forsure🙌🏽

    On your shifter cable you don’t have the white clip that you would use to neutral reset. So my question did these end up working out okay? Without a neutral reset

    • @Canthev
      @Canthev ปีที่แล้ว

      On the older STs there is a red clip (you can see it in the video) where the white clip usually is. It's WAY harder to open those clips to perform the neutral reset, but you can still do it with the red clip. I originally didn't do a neutral reset when I installed my bushings + short shifter, and it was decently okay without it, sometimes it was harder to shift into 2nd. After doing a neutral reset it's hard to really say if anything really changed with it.

  • @justingarfeild7892
    @justingarfeild7892 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You have to do a neutral reset to get rid of the problem you are having at the end of the video!

      Old ass thread, but I’m doing this to my buddies now. Notice he doesn’t have the white clip to reset it. Well niether does the one working on.

  • @donaldcarner369

    Nice commentary/instal. Question: how did you keep/get the green piece so clean? I've seen many nearly destroy theirs here... did you find a relacement? Links/details? Which short-shifter(s) are you considering? (Convienent install while you're in there) Steeda appears to have one on sale now (not a rep, fellow researcher for my '18...) Thanks for the milage stamp: critical for other owners to plan. Thanks.

    • @Nickjoenap
      @Nickjoenap  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Donald Carner I used wire cutters to cut along the edge of the black piece around the green piece until I could use needle nose pliers to pull out the green piece. The plastic around mine was very brittle and easy to break so I think it’s harder to get out on newer models with less mileage. As long as you’re careful it’s not too hard to get out, I’ve seen some people use a dremel but that seems risky. I was able to use the original one. Just make sure the pliers don’t clamp onto the green piece when pulling and you should be fine. I was thinking of the Cobb short shifter plate since you can change the amount of throw if 40% is too much. Steeda is also a great option, both brands are reputable

    Seemed like the cable bushings were quicker to install and made the bigger difference?

    • @Nickjoenap
      @Nickjoenap  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Will IV Yeah I would say so. The bracket bushings still made big difference but if you don’t want to deal with getting the bracket off, the cable bushings are still a huge improvement

      Nickjoenap Cool, I appreciate the video. What year is your ST? So far I’ve kept mine stock but there are a few smaller and inexpensive mods like this that I’m interested in doing.

    • @Nickjoenap
      @Nickjoenap  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will IV Mine is a 2013, this is a great cheap mod that will improve shifting and make it more fun without getting rid of the factory feel. I’d highly recommend it

    Did this today. When i move shifter to right or left (when standing) its not going back by itself to the middle fully. Why is that? Too tight?

    • @Nickjoenap
      @Nickjoenap  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve seen someone post about that on facebook. For them they had messed up the spring under the shift boot but if you haven’t touched that I’m not sure what would cause it

    • @dobrinia93
      @dobrinia93 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had an issue with stock when i drag raced or just did more rpms i couldnt get in the gear sometimes, it let me put in any gear after few seconds only but not right away, so i changed to these, i thought maybe rubber is in bad shape. Btw car has only 6000mi on it, 2018.

    • @Nickjoenap
      @Nickjoenap  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dobrinia93 That could be synchros but since your car is so new sounds like there could be an issue with the shifter part that’s under the shift boot. I’ve seen someone people post about the plastic there getting in the way but I’m not too sure

    I believe those soft bushings are for dampening vibration .

    • @Nickjoenap
      @Nickjoenap  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They make the shifting feel smoother and reduce vibrations when shifting but you feel less connected to the car. I like the feel with the solid bushings better personally

      those original bushings are designed to take vibration out of the cabin...you could develop a noisy rattle in the shifter later..just sayin.

    • @Kykyky603
      @Kykyky603 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup they are made really soft to reduce vibration but after driving in lots of traffic especially everyday, they get worn down A LOT.
