@@theabandonedhunter3604 he’s a Stoke lad isn’t he? He’s gonna be well versed in the joys of an oatcake, and I have seen he’s got a bit of an appetite when he gets going 🤣
I live in Stoke. Stokie born and bred. Generations bought up here in Stoke on these things of beauty 🙂Oatcakes are heaven in a food. Sausage with cheese and brown sauce is my fave. Also partisl to Bacon and tomato. Pikelets (plain version)are good too. Thicker version of Oatcakes . One of the best vids about Oatcakes I've seen. You did us and our Oatcakes justice 🙂👍
Ahh, you used to visit the Hole in the Wall! Name has been taken by another. We used to order breakfast oatcakes when we worked at Portmeirion and would pop them into the dryers to stay warm till breakfast.
Yes, we're going back about 35 years when I was first experiencing the delights of the Oatcake. Living down South they're a rare treat, but a treat indeed! Merry Christmas!
They are yummo. I make my own over here in victoria australia. Started with my mum making them. She had to get my gran to send her the recipe just over sixty years ago. Now I've been making them 45 years. Always make just over 70 oatcakes. Even with that amount they don't last long. I love them with bacon and egg or just tasty cheese.
My Great Grandparents were confectioners and bakers and ran their own bakers/confectionary shop. They made all the toffees, lardy cakes, oatcakes, fudge etc etc. My Nanna scaled down the recipes for home consumption and oatcakes were a regular
@@GreenoEats It was called "hole in the wall" oatcakes, just off Wellington Rd in Stoke. Someone has opened a place in Fenton in Stoke using their recipe. Also using the name "Hole in the wall"
Hi, Greeno. Nice video! I'm not from Stoke, either, but totally agree that Staffordshire oatcakes are delicious! I don't know why they're not available right across the country. Anyway, if you want to make your own when you're not near Stoke, the Teesside Chef has a video recipe on here. Oatmeal is more traditional than the whizzed up rolled oats he uses, but I know his method does work because that's what my dad used to do when he lived abroad and couldn't get oatmeal.
Merry Christmas! And as an excuse for more oatcakes, why not visit a celebrity pub for lunch? Chap who was at my school same time as me called Neil Morrissey? Plume of Feathers at Barlaston. Perhaps take in Monkey Forest as well.
They sell these in my local supermarket (Lancashire ) and do have North Staffordshire Oatcakes written on the packaging , just over a quid for half a dozen. Watching the calories so love mine really simple for breakfast warmed through on a cast-iron skillet with some runny honey on then rolled 😋
The supermarket ones called staffordshire oatcakes are thick, rubbery and vile. Poveys now supply to some supermarkets but they're not as good as the original,.....factory made and thicker. If you want Staffo4dshire oatcakes go to a shop that makes them. Thin and brown.
@@geebee6737 Nooooooo. As a Stokie, Mass produced Staffordshire oatcakes are the pits. Thick and tasteless. Even my local oatcakes shop has started to mass produce for shops and they're not the same. Too thick. Reel Staffordshire oatcakes are, thin and brown and tasty.
Another great video, as always. I have found a recipe for the oatcakes so will try making them soon. I have a Japanese omelette pan (the square one with a flat bottom) so will make square oatcakes. I will then put a cream cheese filling in them and lay them in a lasagne dish, cover with a tomato sauce and a bit of grated cheese and put in the oven. Like stuffed pancakes but with oatcakes instead.
There a Hairy Bikers recipe for them which says about using a fine oatmeal… this could be achieved by whacking some (unsweetened) porridge oats in a food processor and whizzing until you get them really fine. www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/staffordshireoatcake_92371
Please consider reviewing 'The Little Greek'. It seems to have an outside seating area which is ideal for vlogging especially with the nice weather. Cheers Bro My favourites any kebabs, meatballs, dips - meze
They are the best sausage ever Longton market sell them we just buy the full box 👍 Don’t forget wrights pies as well another stokie tradition I’m now living in Dorset 👍
Greetings from a Stokie - I live about 3 miles from that shop - JB are some of the best - but never say Like a Pancake! oth erwise the locals will drown you in Lobby (Have you Tried that?) Also next time your in Stoke try the Pikelets - incredible dripping in real butter Cheers Paul
Ha ha, I had to explain it being like a pancake for all the heathens who have never had them though right 😉 I don’t think I have had lobby, it’s basically a stew bulked up with pearl barley isn’t it, sounds like it would be good!
Savoury items inside a pancake??? 🤔 Next you’ll be eating chicken and waffles with maple syrup like the US! 😖😂 They could have sliced the sausage and wrapped it like a fajita so every bite is equal and the pancake isn’t flapping about 🤷♀️
Happy Friday folks - time for a bit of a regional speciality on my way back to Dorset after my time in Blackpool !
Have you ever tried these oatcakes? If not then you have to try and track them down, they're blooming delicious !
Is Black pool near wales mate? Just a canadrep fan.
It's north of Wales, on the North West coast of England

Wow, Staffordshire Oatcakes have gone global, good on you!!
Friday night tea, with bacon and Cheshire cheese, whilst watching crackerjack…such a long time ago now!
Sounds good to me!

Ooh, I bet you used to love going round to Nanna’s house as a kid, sounds like it was full of treats 🙂

I've been to the window on a terraced house used to get them when I delivered in stoke

My go to Oatcakes shop, 5 mins from home. Two sausage and cheese ! 👍
It was a rare treat for a Southerner, really hard to get Oatcakes down here!!
Thanks for the name check and yes there are still a dozen in the freezer

Ah yes, I know of the Neil Morrisey owned place, my pal Gary reviewed it some time back and was impressed as I recall!
@GreenoEats I watched Gary's but he missed out on an oatcake!
My friends dad used to make them before travelling to Stoke home games, bacon and brown sauce, lovely
Cracking aren't they, can't believe they're not more popular elsewhere in the country!!
Oatcakes are the best
They’re great!
Sounds absolutely delish, reminds me of galettes from north france, we always had them with cheese and apples, sooooo good.

Thanks for the kind words. Your recipe sounds really interesting, you’ll have to let me know how it turns out 🙂
Never had a North Staffordshire oatcake, however last time I was in St Malo I did have quite a few galettes!
fairly similar kind of thing mate - but that's good right?
I'm sure it all comes out in the wash Pete!
I've seen enough episodes of CSI to know not everything comes out in the wash !
Are the oats quite coarse or like flour? Oat flour is £4.00a bag and very fine. Guessing you could just whizz up some porridge oats and use that?

As an ex stokie myself you should have bought some blakeman sausage as well to take home 👍

I loved this place
Without doubt if god had his last meal it would be Oatcakes , bacon and cheese
Haha - they are good !
Crying shame it wasn’t butchers sausage.
Certainly would have been good, but cheap and cheerful food sometimes means cheap and cheerful ingredients. Was still very tasty though 🙂
Very overrated, tried them once Yuk.
Really? Oh I have to disagree, I think they're great :-)
They sell them in most of the supermarkets here in Northwich Cheshire. They are yummy with fried mushrooms and cheese
I suppose you're just about close enough there to be able to get them. No chance here in Dorset 🤣
You can get them in Sainsbury’s at Castlepoint
