Grimes has admitted to making her vocal pitch higher in the studio. This is a reason she doesn’t hit those notes live. Not to mention singing the way she does on her albums can be quite exhausting. Mostly when her vocals are that high.
The Elder Grimes does have a pretty impressive range, it’s just that she doesn’t have enough vocal training to be able to support some of them. She has improved in recent years though.
She originally used a lot of reverb and delay on her microphones to carry that voice in the early years. Somedays she has good vocal days, sometimes not, but she's really an engineer and a performer not the vocalist, she always layers her voice to make a texture which is hard to reproduce live.. Which is why she uses her voice as an instrument and hires back up aka HANA.
i thought her singing was completely fine lol plus true, she very obviously puts edits tf out of her songs, including her voice so some of it is genuinely not replicable

She's one of those few artists that are truly incredible in the studio but the work doesn't really translate the same way live. There's nothing wrong with that though I could name a few artists that barely play anything on a particular album because the amount of production elements and treatments on some of the instrumentation is hard to replicate live and I think the same thing probably applies to her work.
Oh for sure, the amount of energy it takes to perform one of her songs live is insane. literally doing 6 things at once, that there is talent by itself.
Unfortunately she is making huge excuses for her inability to perform live by trying to say "live music is dying" because the studio tricks arent entirely available in live performances or when they are used its completely obvious. Use of vocal processors, almost all of the music is prerecorded and she uses backing vocal tracks of herself to make her thin voice carry live.
