Brutus, die Band um die singende Schlagzeugerin Stefanie Mannaerts, passt nicht in die klassischen Metal-Schubladen. Ihr Sound oszilliert zwischen Rock, Metal, Hardcore und Pop und ist ein weiteres Beispiel für den enormen Kreativ-Output des Musiklands Belgien.
2013 gründen Schlagzeugerin und Sängerin Stefanie Mannaerts, Gitarrist Stijn Vanhoegarden und Bassist Peter Mulders gemeinsam Brutus. Alle Drei hatten schon eine Menge Banderfahrung in der lebendigen Leuvener Musikszene gesammelt. Nachdem die Band erst einmal Live-Erfahrung bei diversen Festivals wie Pukkelpop oder Rock Herk gesammelt hatte, erschien nach drei EPs 2017 ihr Debütalbum „Burst“.
Bekannte Musiker wie Lars Ulrich (Metallica), Greg Puciato (The Dillinger Escape Plan) und Riley Breckenridge (Thrice) bekannten sich kurz darauf als Fans, was für eine Menge Aufmerksamkeit sorgte. 2019 erschien „Nest“, gefolgt von einer US-Tour, u.a. mit einem Gig beim Festival der Deftones.
Während der Pandemie erschien ein Livealbum, 2022 folgte „Unison Life“. 2023 spielten Brutus u.a. auf Festivals wie dem Roadburn, Rock am Ring, Pinkpop und vielen anderen.

Brutus rockt!
Sehr beeindruckend dass eine dreiköpfige Band so einen unglaublich dichten Sound erzeugen kann. Und Drummer die bei so intensiven Gigs gleichzeitig spielen und singen können respektiere ich sehr.

Da hat uns Hacky ja was angeschleppt. 😆 Aber das mit dem "Herz aus der Brust reißen" hat die Stefanie ganz gut hinbekommen. Ich gebe zu das ich vorher null Berührungspunkte mit Brutus hatte und ich im Nachhinein froh bin das mich ein Bekannter fast vor die Bühne geprügelt hat um sie mir anzusehen. Brutus haben an dem Abend definitiv einen Fan dazu gewonnen.

leider erst dieses Jahr möglich auf dem RHF, was in den letzten Jahren an Bands dort aufschlug war leider allzu oft gefühlte Resteverwertung und/oder Ewig-Gestriges, nun, da es in Gelsenkirchen und uU gar ein endgültiges Ende hat mit dem Festival bleibt mir als traurige Erkenntnis, das es mit Bands dieses Zuschnittes sehr gut funktioniert hätte, und das nicht erst in 2024
abschliessend: Brutus sind eine grossartige Band und sehr zu recht dort, wo sie sind

Sorry, but image matters. The music is decent, but the guitarist looks like he sells insurance, the bassist looks like he’s coming to give me an estimate on plumbing and the drummer looks like she’s going to ask me if I want a a Grande, or a Venti.
Maybe listen to some crappy pop music if you care about image that much.
