i recently took a safe sitters class and i forgot to ask what to do if a baby is starting to roll over but can’t always roll the other way what should u do with the baby when they’re napping
Thank you for your question. The first thing you must know that is so important is that all infants (under 1 year old) need to sleep on their back in the crib with no pillows, blankets, or toys. As they become older, some babies will roll onto their stomachs. This is normal. If the baby is comfortable rolling both ways (back to tummy, tummy to back), then it's okay to leave the baby. However, be sure that there are no blankets, pillows, stuffed toys, or bumper pads around the baby, so that the baby does not roll into any of those items, which could cause the baby to stop breathing. Be sure to ask the employer before they leave if the baby is comfortable rolling both ways.
I watched almost every single video that you made. Your videos are so good. I have a baby toddler that is 6. months-Year-Old cuz she's so cute and she takes snaps when I always tell her to and she always listens

If u make another season, can u do a video on how to bathe a baby/toddler/kid? Because im starting babysitting for 10 months to 3 years old, and idk if the parents will ever have me bathe the child. Can you also do a video on how to feed a picky eater?
Don’t bathe a kid when you babysit. The risk of drowning is too high and it’s more responsibility than you should take. Ask the parents to bathe the child before you arrive. It’s just safer for everyone that way! Picky eaters are tough and that’s a huge challenge for parents. If you can’t get the kid to eat the food the parent left, let the parent know. That is their battle to face!
I love that you ask about safety first! First know that when you're babysitting any child under the age of six, you need to always have your eyes on them because they require constant watching. Let me start by giving you some information about each age group that might be helpful for you! Infants (under 1 year old) and toddlers (1 to 2 years old) have short attention spans and are frequently interested in a toy or activity for only a few minutes at a time. Preschoolers (3 to 5 years old) love pretending, stories, and easy board games and can stay entertained with the same activity for about 30 minutes. If you have a preschooler and a younger child, play Hide-and-Seek. The preschooler can hide, and while looking for him, you can walk around the house naming things with an infant or looking for items around the house that are a particular color or shape with a toddler. The most important things you need to know is that the care and handling of infants is very demanding. Never accept a babysitting job that is more than you can handle! Thanks for your question.
What do u do if the child hides and u can’t find them ( since of COVID 19 we have to go outside and then they could run ? ) Also I watch him closely but what if he runs
That's tough. You want to keep an eye on the child at all times, but they are sneaky and can slip away so quickly. They probably also do this to their parents. If you can't find the child, call the parents and ask if he/she has a favorite hiding place.
Do you have to be CPR trained to be a babysitter I can’t really get it cause the nearest Red Cross is very far away so is there any other free options??
Great question! Many parents want you to be CPR trained and that is especially important if you are babysitting a child with heart issues. But if the child has a healthy heart, CPR training isn't always necessary. What you MUST know is how to rescue a child from choking. Choking is super common in kids under the age of 5 and if you don't know how to rescue an infant or child that is choking, the child can die. Since the Red Cross is far away, look and see if there is a Safe Sitter class near you (safesitter.org/find-a-class/). You'll learn everything you need to know to babysit in a Safe Sitter class. I'm not sure of any free babysitting class options - that is probably based on programs offered in your community. Enrolling in a CPR class from the American Heart Association can also help you learn rescue skills. They have some great videos that might help you. Check them out: th-cam.com/users/handsonlycpr.
If you need to go to the bathroom, make sure the child is in a safe place, let the child know, and then use the restroom. If you are babysitting an infant or toddler, put the child in a safe place like the crib when you need to use the bathroom. They might cry, but at least you know they are safe and can't be hurt.
A coughing fit is defined as over 5 minutes of nonstop coughing. If you experience this, you'll want to call 9-1-1 if the child's lips are pale or blue or if the child is having difficulty breathing or talking. If it is less severe and the child is weezing or can't take a deep breath, call a back-up adult for help. If the child is over 1 year of age, give the child warm clear fluids to drink. This will help relax the airway and loosen up any phlegm. Don't ever give the child medicine without the parent's permission. I hope this helps!
I don't know if you respond to comments anymore but here I go. I've wanted to babysit for as long as i can imagine and I think I'm ready but I'm not sure. When is the appropriate age to start babysitting, and should I charge less if I'm younger?
Age doesn't matter near as much as if YOU feel ready! Have you taken a class like Safe Sitter (you can find one near you here safesitter.org/find-a-class/)? Babysitting preparation classes are typically for students in grades 6-8. That will definitely help you feel much more confident and prepared. Set your fee based on experience. You may not charge as much for your first few jobs, but as you get busier as a babysitter, you can charge more. Thanks for your comment!
You don't want to advertise publicly to people you don't know. Start with neighbors - maybe make a flyer and personally introduce yourself and hand out the flyer. Ask your parents to let their co-workers know that you've taken a babysitting class and suggest they hire you the next time they need a babysitter. If you attend a church or are part of another community group, let parents there know you are now babysitting. It might seem hard to land the first job, but once you do so and you do well, the jobs will keep coming!
I have a question: One of my teachers has 2 young kids. I took SafeSitter class over the summer and I think I can handle kids since I have 2 little siblings. I’m thinking of telling her that I can babysit, but I don’t have the courage to tell her that I can babysit her kids! Any tips? Thank you :-)
Yes I do! Bring your Safe Sitter Completion Card and Student Handbook to your teacher and explain that you recently took the class and you want to start babysitting. Explain that you have a lot of experience with your younger siblings and that you would start babysitting for her. She may want to see you interact with her children before she leaves you with them. Suggest coming over to the house to babysit while she is home. This will give her a chance to see you interact with her kids and it will give her a chance to get some things done around that house without kid interruptions.
I don't since every parent has their own way that works for them. Always ask about toileting before the parent leaves. She/he will give you specific instructions on what they do and what works for them. Potty training is so different for each child so just follow the parents directions.
You don't want to bathe children when you're babysitting. Kids can drown in just a couple of inches of water. It's better to use all the wipes and not risk a dangerous situation.
@@BabysitterBoss depends. 1 kid? And toss the dirty clothes off to the side and bathe the kid first and then put them in the playpen or a pack and play or something while you clean up the dirty clothes if you have multiple kids and one has a dirty like that then know you would not because you have to focus on the other kids as well but if you have one child in your care it's an easier route. I have already been there and I ran out of wipes the mom (my girlfriend) was at work at the time and then going to the grocery store to get diapers and wipes and food and other household supplies. I barely made a dent in the mess with a third of a pack of wipes, I had to give the baby a bath instead

@@BabysitterBoss one child, perfectly ok. But i agree, if you have more than 1 (twins are exempt--give both a bath, same time) it is not practical. I speak from MAJOR experience (1 child). You don't want to give baths when you're babysitting. Children can drown in just a few inches of water!
Undress child, put in tub, give a bath. Dont waste wipes if it can be helped. Work smarter not harder
Except ... you really shouldn't bathe a child when you are babysitting. Kids can drown in just a couple of inches of water. It's safer to use a bunch of wipes!
@@BabysitterBoss one child, perfectly ok. But i agree, if you have more than 1 (twins are exempt--give both a bath, same time) it is not practical. I speak from MAJOR experience (1 child). I went thru 1/3rd of a big tub of wipes, and it looked like i did nothing...i gave up (save the wipes, work smarter, not harder) and gave kid a bath instead. This was little after 5pm dinner/supper/what-you-call-it, so theres that--i gave him bath, PJs, put him in playpen/crib/cuddle mattress doohickey, and turned on a disney movie, we sat there til his mom got home
