Donovan Bulmer The 12V71 is the Only "True" V12 out of the three "small" series (53, 71, & 92 with the "Big one" being series 149) that Detroit Diesel manufactured which had "V12's" within each of those series..... and the series 110 was only produced as an inline 6 cyl (most unfortunately) from 1945 - 1965 and was a real "torque monster" for the hp levels it was produced at.... before turbocharging was first adopted in the mid 1970's on the 2 cycles (on the 8V71, first - at 350hp). The series 51, was only produced in Two (2) and four (4) cylinder versions, and was a Loop Scavenged - Valveless design, coupled with a roots blower to provide air flow. There were 9 intake & 3 exhaust ports per each cyl. liner. Unlike the rest of the various GM/DD series'd engines, the "51" designated the first year of production release, Not the ci per cylinder, which was just a "hair" over 54ci..... the engine was replaced by the 53 series, beginning in 1957... and was totally phased out by 1959.
That and his rpms is turned up to 2600 now. He's actually running N90 injectors instead of 120s. His truck can do faster then 55 now. He did 68 last time at the drag strip.
For a Dayab daily driver the old vintage pete did an astonishly good race. To compare a racetruck to a daily driver it´s like comparing apples and oranges : both are fruits
Yeah i think detroits are fine with straight pipes if you are going to do stuff like this, it's fun then, but when you have to drive it some place, ear plugs are required if you still want your hearing.
I dont see anybody in the stands. My dad used to race in the annual Mother Truckin Drags there for years. I have shirts from the first annual in 81 through 90. Love the Woodburn drag strip :-)
Actually the blue truck purposely counted to like 3-5 seconds then he took off, because he knew he would beat us with the use of nitrous and plus the 2000hp under the hood of that.
Dang, he about spun you around when he went past, didn't he? I love the sound of a Detroit, but I'm glad I don't have to listen to one all day anymore.
Fantastic stuff! I'm a huge 2-stroke Detroit fan -- I'd love to find an old GMC Crackerbox or an L9000 with a Screamin' Jimmy and make a "Cornfield Corvette" of my own. "Two-stroke joke," ha, joke's on them at the finish line!
Hotrodx199 you should try and get the Madras drag strip here in central Oregon to let u hold drags there. I would come the 100 miles south on 97 to watch bad ass trucks rip down the track! I think it would be a hit here on the rual side of the state.
I came across a v8 Detroit diesel in a scrap yard/ breakers yard, powering a generator, or compressor, cant recall, had Detroit on the rocker covers. If only I knew then what I do now, could have got it for bugger all too. Perfect boat engine,.
tpvalley Hey !!..... tpvalley..... been quite a while.... I used to "converse" with you about the two strokes, back in the mid / late (07 - 09??) 2,000's...... under the "name" of TurbinePower.... remember? I just read your comment here, and recognized your "name" on here. : )
tpvalley Great to hear from you again!..... My old pc "expired" and I had other projects going... and didn't bother to replace my old computer for a couple of years (didn't even miss it).... and when I did, YT kept "telling" me that - that user name was already taken !!...... and couldn't get any response from emailing them to straighten it out, So.. I just started over again. : )
+tpvalley When in the army I had a 300 amp trailer mounted welding generator with ,I believe a 3-71, engine. Was a good generator. It was on a 1 1/2 ton trailer. It was all I could do to hook it up to my 2 1/2 truck.
That 12-71 sound good :-) I love the sond of the detroit 's When I buy a older truck that is what I whant a kw or pete with a 12-71 do i bit of injector swaping and adjust the govner a bit and let her sing if any one has one of these truck siting around and would lik it to go to a goood home I am looking to get one around spring time
Well actually he sat there and counted to like 5 or 10 then he took off. I look back and see smoke and as soon as i turn my head he comes flying past us.
well friend, going from a moped to a truck is quite the upgrade. you can check out truckpaper craigslist or ebay. Or if you know a few good people maybe they will sell you some lol
hahahaha aawesome just laying here in the bunk watching vidos laughing my ass off.. what better way to end a 750 mile day.. cheers from the pier in halifax
2boredfortv funny thing is the fastest semi Drag Truck in the country is a W900 a model Kenworth with a twin-turbo date v92 silver Series so those 1270 ones ain't all that including the corn fed corn binder
No he didnt....I mean it looked that way because it was handicapped, but if they were running an 1/8th his handicap would be different. As far as a drag racing semi (in this particular case where its a lightened tractor pulling no load) the big 2cyl detroits are the best thing to run because it doesnt come to life until you get it wound up so they're easier to hook up and by the time you get it rolling you dont have to worry about that as much anymore, the turbos are just pushing it faster on the higher end, once that thing gets out of the 100 ft box, its comin an fast. I like loaded drags, thats where the cat comes in.
I would be bolting an Auto into the Pete mate, She's a bit bumpy off the start there. Sounds fuckin awesome the old 12V71, She's a Screamer. great Vid mate would love to see more. Buzz892TTA ;-D
I will admit, I didn't see the blue truck coming. I saw him get left behind and I thought that was it. Well, I guess it's not always about the head start.
The exhaust note from that engine is godly.

I never get tired of hearin them 2 stoke Detroits
WOOOWA A Lamborghini can only wish it would sound like this! What a beast of a engine!
Hmm
What if someone swapped the Lambo engine with a 12V Detroit?
@@Gabriel-he6ih that would be a very wise Person....
That 12V71 Detroit weighs more than an entire lamborghini
@@tank2g2 Exactly that's why it's soo cool.
I remember hearing those old Detroits in the rail yards here in Chicago in the mid 80's
That and his rpms is turned up to 2600 now. He's actually running N90 injectors instead of 120s. His truck can do faster then 55 now. He did 68 last time at the drag strip.

What an eargasm!!!
For a working truck, it did fairly well.
there's another video of this race from the stands POV and the comments just love this workhorse over that 1/4 mile at a timer.
Unmuffled greyhound bus engines. 😀 They do have an awesome sound
This guy really knows how to drive... You cant beat the sound of a Detroit 8V-7, music to my ears.
Sure you can! 12v71!
Yeah i think detroits are fine with straight pipes if you are going to do stuff like this, it's fun then, but when you have to drive it some place, ear plugs are required if you still want your hearing.

God damn them exhaust notes from the 12v71n are enough to make a grown man cry with joy
Awesome machine, love the sound of it !
I wish Detroit diesel made engine's that still sounds like this. They know they can create a new platform with the same sound.
Actually the blue truck purposely counted to like 3-5 seconds then he took off, because he knew he would beat us with the use of nitrous and plus the 2000hp under the hood of that.
Even so, Your truck is not a slouch. Good on you.
Very cool....loved it. Wish we has some events like this in our area.
The buzzin duzzin
Dang, he about spun you around when he went past, didn't he? I love the sound of a Detroit, but I'm glad I don't have to listen to one all day anymore.
3:06 to the end. That thing sounds great going through the gears.
Fantastic stuff! I'm a huge 2-stroke Detroit fan -- I'd love to find an old GMC Crackerbox or an L9000 with a Screamin' Jimmy and make a "Cornfield Corvette" of my own. "Two-stroke joke," ha, joke's on them at the finish line!

yup.. it has 5:29s... its geared low enough
Oh man, I've watched this video several ties, and I just love the sound! Well, that, and the super sexy classic rigs.

Hotrodx199 you should try and get the Madras drag strip here in central Oregon to let u hold drags there. I would come the 100 miles south on 97 to watch bad ass trucks rip down the track! I think it would be a hit here on the rual side of the state.
Oh man it was awesome. But it was super loud. On the trip to the antique truck show ear plugs was needed for the entire trip lol!
3:07.... that sound.
2:35 was that Joe Maser running in the left lane? EDIT- yep, can see his smoke cloud motif on the door lol
I came across a v8 Detroit diesel in a scrap yard/ breakers yard, powering a generator, or compressor, cant recall, had Detroit on the rocker covers.
If only I knew then what I do now, could have got it for bugger all too.

It can be put back together, but it will probably take a group of people and lots of beer.
Yeah, where this video was shot. Woodburn Oregon
Well actually he sat there and counted to like 5 or 10 then he took off. I look back and see smoke and as soon as i turn my head he comes flying past us.

where can u buy a 12v-71N non turbo?
Your truck is so bad-ass, do you pull with it or is it strictly for drag? Sounds awesome!!
What’s with the short shifting?
Did you forget to slam your fingers in the door getting in?
@Hotrodx199 about the same as a civic!
