- This is our 24 cylinder Detroit that we are putting in a custom 359 Peterbilt. It will use an Allison Transmission, and the engine will be in the front of the truck. We are starting off with 40 foot 4" X 14" rectangle rails, not sure how long it will end up being.
First motor in history to have a MPG in the negatives. XD
+Troy “Trallen” Franks You clearly have never seen a Top Fuel Nitromethane engine chew 12 gallons in a quarter mile.
+Anton Swartz you know i was joking, right? And to answer that, yes i have, lol .
So then it creates fuel? :O
+Troy “Trallen” Franks I think it goes in GPM...
+Kneedragon1962 Nah, more like GPF lol jk
When I was a little kid, there was an old man that ran a salvage yard n ot too far from us,he ran an old IH with a 12V71----with ALOT of miles on it.With a load of processed scrap,he was running 90 thousand.I made a trip with him&on the return trip,we got passed by this BIG SHINY longnose pete, well that got him mad!!!!!! we made it to the side of the road where he pinched off the return line with a pair of vicegrips!!!!!!!! When we returned to the road ,it looked like shuttle re-entry!!!! That thing was HOWLING!!!!! It took us a few (ALOT)of miles, but we went by that new pete like a meteor!!!!! I was watchin out my side&just caught a glimpse of the guy thru all the smoke!!!!! On a 210 mile roundtrip, that old detroit would use 2 gallon of oil.Just a farm kid reminiscing!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy the day.
You just made my day.
Gabriel Rd I took my CDL with that old truck, you shoulda seen them at DMV!!!!!!!
It had a worn out 5&4 2 stick, but I had driven it some----Detroit ad says that was the 1st REAL 450 hp available. The ratchets in the rears were so worn that once in a while, you had to stop&back up cause it wouldn't steer!!! I wish I had that old truck now,the page has turned, too late to wish!!!!
Its a 2 stroke so it will burn some oil!
Bruce Miller A 5 gallon pail rode between the seats!!!!! I took a 45 ft trailer of hardwood up north after I got my license, the guys up along the Canadian border--they laughed&said they had a chain to get me there!!! I started out on the end,but when I got to the mill, those Canadians weren't laughin no more!!!!!! I kept an eye on there stacks, when they started losing gears,I just kept stepping on it.We took that old truck to The Fall Truck show in Hershey(haulin another truck for the show)Some official came and asked us to leave the old truck there so people could see that old 12-71!!!! We were empty on the way back(just a lowbed)and places on I-90,that old truck would run out 90-100 mph with all kinds left!!!! I miss it,but DOT would have me in jail!!!! Enjoy the day.
How is the oil consumption on your enormous v24 2 stroke?
Still better for the environment than a Prius.
Anything is better for the environment than an prius or specifically speaking......l the drivers I mean look at all the hot air wasted and carbon dioxide fumes they release when they rant at full force☺
Julius Nyangoro g . fink 0p4r7 6 y
+Kyle Bonnett and light it on fire!Motor will survive at least theres one good thing!
+LuWeiHuang The worst thing about the Prius is the obnoxious personality of the "drivers."
I love this engine and everything it stands for but literally this is the most retarded comment I've ever read.
EPA ratings would be GPY (gallon per yard) :D
f*** epa
Your Lamborghini Aventador has a v12.... that's cute.
What’s that pipsqueak? You have a Bugatti W16?
CoyDog790 I’ve seen your comment in two or three other Detroit diesel videos
@@coydog7902 bugatti w16 was a junk

Hi
An LS is bigger than that.
What a monster, Detroit Diesel power at it's finest!
god called he said he wants his engine back
Satan called and said he needs his engine back more like it
@@rjac001 satan drives a prius
Satan drives a Prius 😅
they were good motors
Imagine a runaway on this engine! I can't...

Steve 900SPG It got buttlefly valve on the air intake :/
+jaba nay I doubt they're even functional. Diesels are controlled by fuel pressure unlike gasoline engines that are controlled by air pressure.
+jaba nay - They don't do anything. A diesel's rpm is controlled by fuel flow, not air flow. They're just there because they're part of the blower hat, which would normally be on a gas engine.
Absolutely a work of art, I love to see this kind of ingenuity and raw talent to produce such a beauty.
I will be showing this to my Truck & Coach students and one day they have the honor of building something with style like this
Congrats to all involved! Quite a monstrous engine. Looks beautiful.
2:30 LOL @ his beard
Epic beard guy, keep it away from the timing belt, you're scaring me.
I have seen them with both turbos and superchargers, but you have to have the supercharger, no way around it. Interesting side note: On EMD locomotive engines (which are two stroke) the supercharger is gear driven until it hits a certain rpm and then it begins being driven by a turbine on the exhaust side, effectively making it both a supercharger and a turbo.
waiting for this guy's shirt to get caught in the fucking belt
+ladams00 better still his fucking beard lol.
This should be the defenition of america
not really
Soooo... It's a V8 made of V8's
Yea, but these Detroits are modular in that aspect.
What an incredibly expensive paperweight.
LOL
hat's off and congrat's to your marvelous achievement. I dearly admirably marvel the success in the work that you have accomplished and those who you inspired!
It certainly runs clean for a diesel
Put biodiesel in it and it would run even cleaner.
Only if you mix it with GTL diesel blends. Pure vege Oil based Biodiesel produces more NOX and particulate waste than regular Diesel. I was referring to the lack of smoke which would hardly change by switching to biodiesel.
that's because it's not turbo. that characteristic black smoke is due to rich mixture while waiting for the turbo to spool
Yeah, that makes sense. Sometimes low tech solutions are the best.
So what, 1,000,000 lb-ft of torque?
It's amazing how smooth it runs.
3 cilinders only to move the oil pump of that beast :D
fantastic. ..a work of art and imagination
Here we see Santa Claus away from the North Pole, taking a trip to North America, checking out his sweet 3,424 horsepower Detroit Diesel engine about to go on his sleigh for rapid moving of Christmas presents this year.
Perfect GEO METRO Engine!
... If your erection lasts more than 4 hours, please consult a physician
Why?
So that's how Santa gets around the world so fast!
I wonder how much power this would have made if they put turbos on it instead...
why not both? lol
Kenji takahashi you cant use both
EthanForArmy Uh, wtf are you talking about? You can twincharge stuff very easily. Supercharger and a turbo, supercharger and multiple turbos, multiple superchargers and multiple turbos... It's all possible, it just comes down to money, time, and space...
doubting it would make much difference though, don't think they're lacking boost with all those superchargers.
Psygo1 Obviously, as air is compressed, it heats up. Turbos and Superchargers generate a lot of heat. But, if you are compressing the air to 80 PSI using just a turbo or a supercharger, you get a lot of heat. Unless you use a complicated intercooler setup, it's hard to dissipate much heat. If you use a twincharging setup, you can cool the air more than just once as it moves through the intake system. So, air goes through the turbo and compressed to 40 PSI, run through an intercooler to cool it, then run it through a blower to compress it to 80 PSI, run it through another intercooler (would be an aftercooler at this point), and you can extract more heat from the air... Which turns into more power, at the same boost level.
Will it fit my Honda?
Might be a little top heavy in the corners :-)
Offroad circus Your honda might fit in it, lol.
It's art... So beautiful I might cry :')
THERE IS TWO CYLINDERS PER SUPERCHARGER HOLY HELL :D
awsome as long as facial hair stays out of those pullies yikes! that will wind up in there in a new york minute.
Smokey Bear, you better pull it over there in your rockin' chair, this rig will be clean out of sight!
My little honda has waaaay more power than this engine.
your a special kind of stupid arent you
Brandon Miller DURR??? Derpy Durrrrp!!!!!! I got 30,000 hp by putting a turbo on my honda, plus the Honda and flame stickers add another 140 Hp.
JDTVEXTREMEVIDEOS then your vtech kicked in and added 30000 more horesepower
DInosaurs 4 Dayz Yup, then when I launched it, the road wrinkled up behind me and the earth spun sideways, first time it snowed at the equator was because of that car.
Ya but let's see your little handa tow a fully loaded semi trailer get the the hell of this channel you bloody little troll
This video's about 4 years old, so presumably they did something with it. Anyone know if got installed in a commercial rig, or a racing truck or if it was just built for shows? It's gotta be the most evil looking motor I've ever seen.
He's built a truck around that metal mountain
It went into a 379.
Thor 24.
That thing is pretty sweet no matter how you look at it!
can i fit this into my VW Golf?
+michael2011148 I have an old GS850G frame out the back... We might need to string up a 19" front, but I think we could... Bridgestone or Metzler, you think?
+michael2011148 Sure. Put your seat on the roof and remove everything inside the car to make space for the engine.
lol even then it would not fit
TheAnt 777 well. there is a cabrio of the golf ... remove everything above the ground-chassis.
I think you could fit the Golf into the engine :/
Pfft. "gas-mileage"
Currently, I am pitching a HUGE tent. That is horn bag.
Great job, mega engineering.... Well done
I call BS on the dyno run. A hopped up diesel at full load and no smoke at all? Even if it did make 3400HP, the stock motor makes 1800 so not very impressive for 12 blowers and nitrous.
No way that was video of a dyno pull..
I didn't know a stock Diesel engine made 1800 hp. In the US the most a stock motor makes is 575. That's hp. But we make a lot of torque with a stock diesel.
Craig Reeves The majority of semi trucks make more than 575 stock and there are diesels making several thousand HP.
If a diesel motor is tuned properly you don't need to blow black smoke to make power and I agree the nitrous should be replaced with propane better burn when mixed with deisel
dogfacesoldier1234 Not every diesel has to blow black, but when going for max power they will and there's no way around it. Propane and nitrous serve two totally different purposes and aren't comparable nor interchangeable.
Why are all the butterflies open on idle?
because diesels are controlled by fuel ,they dont need "butterflys" or blades at all ,,f series superdutys have a tps sensor and no throttle blade or throttle shaft
Diesel engines operate at very wide air/fuel ratios so they don't need to have an air restriction like a gas engine does; reducing fuel reduces power without needing to reduce air flow. A gas engine has to operate within a very narrow air/fuel ratio so when the fuel is reduced for low power the airflow has to be reduced as well otherwise it won't stay running or will run extremely poorly. Some diesel engines do use a throttle valve type thing, the VW shudder valve is an example, but it's not the same as the throttle valve for a gas motor. That aside, the blower hats on this engine (along with a lot of other stuff) are purely for show. There is no reason for butterflies on this engine.
DonziGT230 learn something new everyday thanx man
DonziGT230 There is a reason. The butterflies act as a safety device in case of engine run away. All of the standard 2 stoke Detroit Diesels had a emergency stop device built into the blower. It would shut off the airflow to the engine in case oil build up in the airbox or oil from a bad blower shaft seal created a situation where the engine runs away because it is burning the oil for fuel without control. The fuel control racks could also stick causing over fueling and runaway engines. Those blowers are racing style so they wouldn't have that feature built into them. Butterfly valves in the intake are used on modern 4 stroke diesel engines to aid in EGR flow and regeneration of the exhaust filter.
Bryan M Little VW diesels suffered from this run-away issue as well.
Once, I took the T-shirt of my back and jammed it into the intake manifold to shut one down before it blew itself up ! Lol !
Non ci sono parole!!! Questa è ARTE!!!!! Che spettacolo! Beati voi... Spero che un giorno riusciro' non a costruirlo (anche se ci spero) ma soltatnto ammirare dal vivo una creazione così spettacolare! Siete davvero FORTI!
24 cylinders and avout 3000hp? You can get 2000hp on a 2JZ engine with 6 cylinders... XD
Ahem. Torque.
Alcatraz Crylake Yeahhhh, 3000 HP and 12,000 Ft pounds of torque..
I know that torgue is more improtant but if you compare it... 2000hp on a 3.0l 6cylinder is amazing. The strongest Toyota Supra with the 2JZ engine had 2400hp.
Alcatraz Crylake Yes, but those cars make 1500 FT pounds of torque. These diesels quadruple that number. Don't get me wrong, I love my 2JZ's, EJ25's and RB26's but when it comes to pure sheer torque, diesels can't be beat.
Diesel can't be beat? Strong E-Engine.
I love hearing it come off throttle... so much rotating mass it just wants to keep rolling. Wow.
Well you are somekind of a genius.
Please share more of your diesel mechanic expertise.
That is about the most beautiful thing I've ever seen or heard.
I love it, it sound like a the old school 318 detroit, I all was love putting my foot in it, and the sound of it with straight pipes, damn I miss the old days
That's a mad max style motor right there.
haha yep
Wow, that's over the top engineering, sounds awesome, 3400 horses is no cream puff. Since most diesels have twice the torque as horsepower. Whoa! That better go on a semi with the most drive wheels, spinning and smoking!!! But, the looks, of all those blowers going, all that chrome! No smoke except from your credit card!! Your living the dream boys, I loved it anyway, thanks for sharing!!!
that motor is a work of ART and to get it running good is a ART in its self well done
For a second, I thought his nice beard was going to get caught in something, but this is great. This maybe the first supercharged diesel I ever seen, and what a first it is. He gave the horse power, what incredible does it have???
This is some Mad Max - Road Warrior level shit right here. I am the Humungous!
Couldn't say it any better dorfus71. I had a old 379 with a 12 71 and it ran like no other. It produced zero amounts of smoke until I did some stuff to it and it was an even badder machine then. You can't beat how rough these old machines are. They run like mofos once you can get them figured out. Detroit 71s all the way.
Absolute art my friend!!☺
As much as I love Detroit Diesel engines.......I wan't confirmation that this damn thing actually went into something. Geez, there is nothing like the sound of a 2 stroke diesel!!!!!!! Power is awesome and the sound is second to none.
went into what? lol you have a truck with enough space to fit that beast?
The motor in the video is a Detroit diesel. They operate on a 2 stroke cycle, like a chainsaw motor, hence their characteristic sound. Unlike other 2 strokes that use crankcase pressure to force air into the cylinder, Detroits use a supercharger plus a turbocharger to do that. You wouldn't be able to run a 2 stroke diesel too well on crankcase pressure air induction alone. The intake diesel oil air mixture used to lubricate the crank bearings would cause pre-ignition on the compression stroke.
The sweet sound of an old Detroit, music to my ears
and the beast rose from the pit... and spoke lol OUTSTANDING!!!!!
That's something like 1700 cubic inches, holy shit! I am impressed, and that doesn't happen very often.
HOLY SHIT .....NOW THAT'S A FUCKING ENGINE . BRING THAT TO A TRACTOR PULL LOL !!!!
Awesome. Pretty crazy u get 3k hp out of it naturally. I have “the biggest” 12v71 as a natural and it only pushes 550hp, even two pared together wouldn’t make this much power!
That mother of diesel is MASSIVE!
Checking valve clearances will be one hell of a job...
Acheiving the idea is a win, realy nice and great engine
That isn't a beast, it's a MONSTER!!!
Torque must be off the charts.
A 24 cylinder!! And extra pullies!! Crazy!!
Put it in a truck and lets see what it can do! Sounded mean and put a big smile on my face when they finally gave it some lol
He sure is passionate about it.
That got to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen!!!!!
the original stock bottom end engine ,this is awesome
i love this guy he feels the power and the motor says lets go!
freaking awesome badazz sounds dangerously deadly but cool
Started like a Detroit, sounds like a Detroit and the best part about it was no smoke.
That's just INSANE!!! I LOVE it!!
Engine timing is awesome
INSANITY!!! THATS THE SICKEST SHIT IVE SEEN IN A LONG TIME,HELL OF A JOB!!!
...but will it start in the winter? LOLOL!! That's a BEAST!
Holy crap, that's practically an aircraft engine!
ship engine really. Too heavy for a plane.
Authur Jackson Good point, I agree.
thats was truck engine dude, not aircraft. www.google.com/search?q=359+Peterbilt&client=ubuntu&hs=PYs&channel=fs&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=bMeCVMjXDcKWuAThgYKYBA&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=650
Tri Hakni Putra
I know it is, *dude*. That's why I said "practically". In terms of its size and horsepower, it's comparable to piston engines developed and used on aircraft in WWII. And see the other poster's comment, he's right, it's practically more of a ship's engine.
The sheer amount of vacuum it's making is enough to lift a kid straight off the sidewalk and into the blower
I will say this, nothing beat the sound of a Super Charger.
I like how the beard is "dancing" in the wind
That is absolutely beautiful. a true masterpiece.
WHAT MADNESS IS AN EXAGGERATION!!
big beard = big balls... he stands there like its nothin
This Detroit is a 2 stroke engine so it needs superchargers to give a positive air pressure at all times. It can't run with only turbos, but you could add turbos in front of the supercharger to increase boost. Only problem is you would need a real big charge air cooler to reduce the intake air temperature when you start maxing out the psi.
the size of the intake was confusing to the eye at first. thought it was 3 engines on top of 3 engines. just madness. the engineering involved is impressive to say the least
Makes me miss my 4-53 I had in a 1Ton Chevy.
That vrooom, vrooom, vrooom you hear at the beginning in classic Detroit diesel "idle hunting." :D
You're welcome. They are unique engines.
Can't imagine trying to run the rack on that puppy !!
That's a sweet engine! I also want whatever he's on!
Great beast!!!!!! What about some pics with this beauty mounted on the 359 Pete?
guess they are still rebuilding that perterbuild to fit it in
I can imagine the torque it produces.
"A fool and his money makes a fine party" - Benjamin Franklin
3424 HP!? Good god that's as much as a railroad locomotive! Seems like a bit of overkill for a truck, but damn that's awesome.
I'm enjoying the filtration system...
LOOK AT THOSE FILTERS.
Cute little engine. NO WHERE NEAR the 'king of engines! On huge containerships we have 90,000 horsepower two stroke diesel engines, six stories tall.
This motor could power a small planet...
The off the chart all custom Peterbilt this monster is in is near completion. Next spring.
it will be in shows. I saw it Nov. 12, 2014. Biggest and baddest streetable truck ever built.
Wait and see what it is hauling on the custom trailer it will pull.
The workmanship and custom features are off the chart.
