    We all know that Samsung usually squeezes out its televisions the first month when reviews are made on TH-cam channels and after references like Rtings release their review videos. Samsung releases an update cutting performance to what the TV can REALLY handle without "melting".

  • @amrititbhu

    Have been using s95d for one month. Rtings is right, direct huge lights will raise blacks. But in 99% of use cases matte is far superior for viewing in the daytime. Unless you have a window right in front of the tv, matte looks better, because there are no visible reflections and artifacts. My TV is exceptional in the day and at night.
    Glossy is better if u have dim lights or blinds. IMHO people should buy s90d if they want to watch in dim light. For day+night s95d is better, due to the anti-glare finish.
    In daytime setting, during dim scenes, I could see myself on my previous TV along with the visuals. No such problems here.

    • @bdockett1

      It's beyond me how they rated this with a worse reflection score then the gloss screen. I have been using it for about a month also. I will take raised blacks in an area where normally it be zero black and just a perfect reflection

    I have had this tv for 14 days, it is stunning and all the money worth for me. I got a 25% discount.
    Many complain about its anti glare, but for me that mostly work doing the evenings, it handle light amazingly. It’s a 10/10 for me, as I don’t see myself in the background and I get the deep blacks without light and reflections interrupting the picture.
    Please note, that the tv does need some calibration across all its picture modes. But using Samsung smart calibration and playing around with the settings and mostly disabling the enhance modes. It is an amazing and stunning tv to game and watch movies on. It does everything better than my old Phillips oled, that made everything have a yellow tint while gaming. So again for me personally it’s a 10/10

    Many thanks for your in-depth review. At current prices, the Samsung S90D costs $600 less than the S95D, and the RTINGS side-by-side comparison of these two models shows that they have nearly identical performance (In fact, RTINGS ranks the S90D slightly BETTER for "Mixed Usage", and I agree with that assessment). If I were buying a Samsung QD-OLED this year I'd choose the S90D and save myself some cash. I admit I'm a real fan of the S95D "One Connect" box and I wish more TV manufacturers included that feature in their models, but my frugality still persuades me to opt for the S90D...

    The answer is no- unless you want the anti glare. I stared at this $3400 tv and a $1350 open box S90C at Best Buy. We watch all these comparison videos and look at rtings, but when you see them in person (albeit not the best situation at BB), it’s rrrreally hard to justify spending 2 additional thousands of dollars, for a tv that really doesn’t look all that different outside of the anti-glare- which.. appeared to take away a little contrast to my eye. Some people just want “the best”, but really you’d be hard pressed to know the difference with some of these TVs if someone brought the lesser model in your home and told you it was the most expensive one.

    Btw. the issues with black outs on HDMI are an issue since many years. I had it with an Q95T! Like many other users as well. I don´t think it has to do with bandwith and more with the hardware issues of the chipsets itself or it is a glitch / bug where it switches between RGB spaces.
    Why? For whatever reason only using RGB Limited / Black Level Low on both, TV & device, was a solution. I personally can´t trust One Conect Box models, because it is a lottery and in my country chance is high that you get black outs. Maybe different produce lines vary here.

  • @EhNothing

    It's absurd to spend this much on a TV and not get dolby vision because Samsung doesn't want to spend a couple bucks on a chip for it. No way.

    • @madpistol

      I don't think that's the reason. Based on my experience, Dolby Vision is fantastic if you're after a pure, cinematic experience. Samsung, being Samsung, thinks they can do HDR better, so they choose to forego the limitations set by Dolby Vision. In some cases, I think HDR10(+) looks better. In others, DV is superior.

      Tizen is fine if you just spend a few bucks on the full featured Samsung remote or a universal remote. The "issues" that people have aren't really with Tizen, but with the compact smart remote that doesn't provide direct access to settings menus or inputs. Once you have that direct access, Tizen is no different than any other TV OS.

      @DrakonR That term "worse" is subjective. I still have a harmony remote so for me it's plenty easy to use. Activities automatically take me to whichever input I need to go to and my "TV Apps" activity takes me straight to the screen with all the apps. At which point it's no more difficult using a d-pad to select an app than it is for any other smart TV platform. And they all slow down over time. Android TV especially will slow down. Only real issue I've experienced with Tizen on my S90C is that every now and then Netflix will refuse to load. Rebooting the TV solves it. But that's not even a Tizen issue. It's a Netflix issue. Netflix would occasionally do the exact same thing back when I had a Sony and the solution was the same: Reboot. Except that the reboot on Tizen is extremely quick whereas it took forever for Android TV to reboot

      And if you have even a passing knowledge of how to properly set up a TV, you can set them to be very accurate if you want. Fact of the matter is, tons of people LOVE when a TV has an extremely vibrant image. Is that accurate? No. Do I agree with that? No. But Samsung is simply doing what they know will help them succeed at their business. And you can change all of that if you want accuracy. And yes, this is exactly what every other brand does as well. The Samsung bashing just because they're Samsung is getting quite tiresome.

    Perhaps there's an explanation other than "we want your TV to break so you'll buy another one," but I wonder why they don't incorporate some semiconductor metal plates like in many smartphone coolers. The fan is silent, and it would work great underneath or behind. The same goes for laptops. Where I live, it feels like 39°C this year, and generally around 31.9°C. It's very annoying to have to keep the environment cooled all the time or use a specific fan for the screen (my electricity bill appreciates not using the AC for 16 hours a day in more than one room).
