My Dad was humming all the time and he lived to age 92!
He also talked all the thoughts that traveled through his mind. He drove me crazy because he almost never stopped talking. What I didn’t realize till I became his caregiver when he broke his hip when he was 89, was that he was talking to himself and didn’t need any answers to what he was talking about!
He was always very cheerful and engaged in conversation with everyone he met.
He passed four years ago and I miss him very much. He also kept his childlike curiosity about how mechanical things worked. I’m sure that’s why he lived so long.

I have absolutely healed my allergies through this exercise. Btw, it doesn’t matter if you hum at 130hz or not, and as you have pointed out in your other videos; you get all the benefits of elevated Nitric Oxide in the first four breaths. After that, there is no benefit. The key is to then wait three minutes and then do four more. So, it’s not about humming for an hour, it’s about doing this technique many times throughout the day.

The Yogis are well aware of the benefits of chanting (humming) OM, of which there are many beyond just the elevation of NO levels in the sinuses. Pranayama (the Science of Enhancing the Life Force utilizing regulated breathing techniques) has specific exercises such as Kapalabhati aka the Skull Shining Breath or Breath of Fire which detoxify and restore optimal function to all of the sinuses. I guarantee that the yogis who are established in the practice know full well the whys and wherefores of what they do, and could tell you about benefits that you have not even considered. Western medicine has a long long way to go to even begin catching up to where Yoga (real yoga...Classic Ashtanga Yoga) has been for thousands of years. That being said this is very useful information that more people need to be made aware of as it could well be lifesaving for so many suffering with chronic nasal conditions and heart conditions. Education and awareness is key in resolving these widespread issues. Thank you for this, and please tell us more.

I healed serious asthma, allergies and chronic sinus congestion by breathing through the nose and humming, before I listened to this doctor. It works! Yet my allergy/asthma doctor laughed at it. Most doctors are very ignorant of anything other than drugs. Humming also activates the vagus nerve, which can keep us parasympathetic.

I had serious asthma for 14 years starting when I was 7. When I left home it disappeared. I couldn't get enough sports then.
40 years later it returned and they found out my lung capacity was only 60 percent.
So, I'm thinking that if I could lose it before then I should be able to lose it again. It's frustrating.
The only other possible reason I may have got it is that in both places there was a pulp mill.

I have been able to reduce the cortison medication (this far to zero!). When my nose gets worse - I "hum" some evenings - and the result is clearly positive directly . After say 2-3 days - clear nose! So thank you Irminne, for your fantastic contributions on this site.

Hi! Hoping to get a reply and maybe a professional opinion (if you're allowed)...
I suspect to have had covid back in March/April. Could not get a test after 2 ER visits and 1 clinic. Long story short:
My body is still messed up 9 months later with mainly night time breathing issues, my body will not let me fall asleep until after sunrise, and I have a variety of concerning lingering symptoms. Many of the horrible sensations I have experienced have gone away but there's plenty to deal with still. But mainly my respitory: my nose and sinuses have been inflamed and swollen feeling for months and I CANNOT handle ANY humidity (in Florida), My throat gets mildly swollen at times but there was a 2 weeks period months ago where I COULD NOT swallow AT ALL, and I get heavy, pulling, swole sensation in my chest and right under my chest with very scary sensations at night as if air is going thru mu chest, as if gas is escaping from my stomach into my chest.
I rarely feel this in the day time once I get moving. Its usually when in bed at 3am
I just got insurance so I will be going to see a PCP in a week. However for supplementation, I have just begun sublingual minerals as well as a NO heart health supplement sold by Herbalife. a Powder formulated by the Nobel Prize Laureate himself who discovered nitric oxide. I sincerely hope the NO raw materials (NightWorks) helps to improve my condition. I am 35 and JUST want to regain my full health. I basically have been left in a position where I can't do anything. I can grocery shop once a week. But I am definitely not well enough to WORK. Ido my best to be hopeful as I've come a long way on my own at home... but like I said, the issues that remain are so scary.
I have taken up day trading at home to try and take care of my financial needs. If I can become well again and resolve my intermittent breathing issues, that will be SO great. Feeling from some reading I've done like I may have either structural damage or scarring that could be causing these random sudden breath sensations.... Maybe No will work to heal whatever is going on with me by increased oxygen delivery.
I dont understand how during the day I can have vitrually no probems and at night I struggle. Chest feels strong in the day, I cook dinner standing up, I eat, I check the mail, take small walks... The the wee hours of the AM... BOOM... sensations that make me seriously wonder if I'm about to go. Nothing ever happens... but its mental torture.

:BRIAN-MATTHEW :NUSSBAUM do you find that you keep waking up all the time with feeling out of breath and then you try to sleep and then keep waking up out of breath and then eventually by about 6am you sleep without any problem?

    • @continuouslylearning6152
      @continuouslylearning6152 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@carltroia6235 no. Its more like my body lately wont let me go to sleep til around 2pm in the afternoon and I sleep til 7-730. When I want to sleep, say midnight to 7 or even like 3am to 9am.... As I fall asleep my body rejects it....and thats when I feel these sensations.
It's like my chest and lungs "sink down" more than normal and the feeling of physically taking a breath just feels abnormal. Over compensation and under compensation. That make any sense?

As far as other alternative remedies, my coworker once told me a doctor said he had improved his poor vision with eye exercises, by rolling his eyes around the outside of his socket. I guess the eye is a muscle and if you find a way to train/strengthen it to gain control of it, theoretically I guess it could work.

Also to add there are following practices from ancient Indian Yoga system that make use of humming principle:
    1. Chanting of AUM / OM (as Van mentions in the video)
    2. A pranayam called Bhrambri, which is basically humming with your eyes and ear closed.
    3. A meditation practice popularised by Sri Sri Ravishankar called “So-Hum”
One must not assume that high intensity/weight training workouts are critical for good health.
Infact easy & holistic 20-25 min mixed low-intensity workout practices such as Yoga/Aasan/Pranayam/Meditation/TaiChi etc done everyday will keep you healthier and longer life. More importantly “injury-free”.

This is the first I've heard of Nitric Oxide and its role... explains so much I was wondering about.
In the mean time this afternoon I'll be making a PVC didgeridoo tuned to 137 Hz to play and hum along with. Should be interesting to see if the theta beats produced (when humming at 130) will aid in the transport of ‘stuffiness’.
The NO interaction might explain why (during breath work) I'm sometimes able to breathe so clearly I can smell something like ozone, a pure note in itself - so amazingly other worldly when that happens.

Thank you so much! I have a question about 130 Hz.
As a musician and singer I totally appreciate the scientific confirmation of the healing power of sound and vocalizing, thanks for all the little details about all the aspects of this.
But what's left undeveloped is why 130Hz? Are you saying 130Hz because the guy who cured himself hummed at that frequency?
Have there been scientific studies to test whether different frequencies work, and which frequency produces the greatest concentration of NO?
And second, do we know that the best frequency is the same for every individual or would the ideal frequency vary, based on the physiology of that individual (size and shape of the vocal tract, lungs, sinuses etc.)
I have to point out in that respect, that when you said "130 Hz is this" you actually hummed at 260 Hz, an octave higher. 130Hz is a low C, very comfortable in the vocal range of most men (easy to make a soft tone rather than a loud one), but close to impossible for most women to sing steadily, other than trained singers. Women's vocal ranges tend to be on average somewhere between a fifth and an octave higher than most men, and when men and women sing the "same" pitch they're naturally gravitate to singing an octave apart (frequency x 2).
I'm not trying to nitpick here (nor criticize). I just want to point out that we'd benefit from scientific examination of which frequencies have these effects and the potential variability across the population - before everyone out there starts assuming that 130Hz is the magic number and some people start making videos about the "God frequency" or the "Nitric Oxide Frequency" 🤣🤣
My hypothesis is: a frequency low in the vocal range that's easy to hum quietly for a long period of time. Let's test that!

My tuner measured her at 230 Hz. But there is a movement among new agers generally termed as "frequencyism"...a silly attempt to say that there is a specific frequency for just about everything, with absolutely no proof. They don't take into account the rise & fall of everything in nature and want to reduce everything to one number...taking the soul out of everything. They worship numbers with no real researched validity. Most true musicians see this as ridiculous, but it gives non-musicians a chance to sound knowledgeable. There is a great group on facebook that debunks all this silly frequencyism with rational thought. Each full breath is matched with movement from one posture to the next and will generate internal heat and within minutes you'll be sweating from breath and movement. It's a real thing. Based on this doctor's observations nitric oxide is manufactured in considerable quantities during a 45, 60 or 75 minute class. The advantages of practicing Ujai breath on the body are well known. Yogis knew exactly what they were doing. Himalayan yogis know the secrets of reversing aging, longevity, and many other things. One excellent yogic medicine is Shilajit, which repairs tight junctions, and is used as a rejuvenating rasayana

You are correct as always. And, May I ad, this is basically a type of yogic breathing. An effective variation is breathing in through the nose, humming on the exhale and during the exhale sliding into a mouth exhale, the humming becomes Mmaaaaaaahhh then, before exhausting your reserve air, sliding back into the navel hum to finish the breath. Basically humming NOSE, OPEN MOUTH, NOSE on a long exhale.
If you look at your chart you’ll see a spike in activity at the beginning, followed by a gradual decline. This technique has the advantage of two spikes. And a calming, meditative effect. 😊

Interesting! Singers and swimmers work on their breath control. And general athletes. Like weightlifters. It's a natural instinct to hold your breath. But you have to remember to Exhale. A lot of people forget that and that's why we end up getting so stressed out. Because they take a deep breath but then they just hold it in instead of exhaling

Thank you for the video, do you have any information about Nitric Oxide and depression ?

    • @outofthedoldrums
      @outofthedoldrums  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Hi! The information on Nitric Oxide and depression is limited, but it does seem that an “imbalance” of nitric oxide can contribute. Nitric oxide works as a neurotransmitter in the brain, so we know it is critical to numerous neurological functions.

Very helpful information, and the presentation was excellent! Thanks!! Does the Nitric Oxide produced during humming also help in good endothelial/arteries health besides helping the nasal & the sinus cavities? Or, does that need eating beets, leafy greens, etc.?

This is crazy ..... I watched this video, and a few others on the subject yesterday, and did several sessions of "nasal humming" throughout the late afternoon and evening. Mostly 10 breaths at a time and 2 sessions of One nostril humming. I wasn't taking it too seriously, and not even sure if I was "doing it correctly".
As soon as I woke up this morning, (about an hour ago) I noticed something different straight away. I could breathe through my nose !......................... For the past 30 years or more... I am 60....... I have had Sinus issues, infections, runny nose etc., and wake up with a blocked nose every morning. Not today though ! ................ and I also noticed I had much more clarity in my mind, not nearly as dopey and groggy as I usually am when I wake up.................... and I had several Rums last night, so double bonus. If this is what happens after one half day of doing it I can't wait to see how much more this can do. Hopefully I will get rid of my Paint Allergy ! Thank you so much again Dr Van Dyken!

Thankyou, Doc. FYI, Muslims practising quran recitation called "murottal", with some particular humming pronounciation. These daily recitation within salat (5 times a day prayers) and outside the salat, I believe affect the production of Nitric Oxide as well.
    InshaAllah.
