    Hi,Slav here. So I’m main engineer on big oil company, very important man, and im mixing this oil by myself for about 50 years, so big experience here, and I can say it doesn’t matter what you put inside your engine it’s gonna blow up anyway because you don’t clean and oil your air filter.

    • @alejandrotobienne8220
      @alejandrotobienne8220 ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree I work as a refinery process engineer and while yes your air filter is important. At most it will dirty your oil faster not make your engine blow up and higher traces of silicone

    • @grabbag6314
      @grabbag6314 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I disagree with you both. A dirty air filter will restrict airflow and cause your engine to run like crap but it doesn’t effect your oil

    OK, here we go again. I am a 65 year old man who has been riding since I was six. I'm not saying I'm an expert I just have a lot of years of saddle time. In early 2000 I herd some people talking about Rotella T6 and decided to give it a try on my Triumph Sprint RS. I noticed a difference in shifting and engine feedback. Previously it had the high dollar Castrol full synthetic which at the time was around $40 a gallon. I found Rotella T6 for less than $20 at Wally world. Since 2000 I've used it in my Triumph Sprint, Husqvarna TR 650, Suzuki 3rd gen Hayabusa, Kawasaki Ninja 1000, Suzuki SV 650 and SV 1000 without a hint of a problem. Changed oil every 2500 miles and probably saved $1000 by using Rotella oil and K&N oil filters. No scientific data just my own results for what I choose to use in my bikes. In addition, I use it in my 98 Z28, and my 2008 GMC SIERRA. In fact, the only thing I don't use it in is my 68 Chevelle. It has a flat tappet engine so I choose to use high zinc Dino oil in her.
    Sincerely,
    Rich USN veteran.

    I keep hearing this about motorcycle engines running higher RPMs and higher heat and that’s why Rotella isn’t good. T4 and T6 literally are made to run in turbo diesel engines with turbos spinning at 10s of thousands higher RPMs than a bike engine, at temperatures that would make a dirt bike melt completely.
    I like the oil debate but we need to be very accurate in what we are talking about to make the debate worthwhile.
    Anyway, good video and thanks for the debatable topic.

    • @h.d.mech.mortenson2098
      @h.d.mech.mortenson2098 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Don’t forget there are also turbo chargers that spin at over 100,000 RPM and diesel engines used in mining/construction applications sometimes or a lot of the time work 24/7 especially in the winter where they do not turn equipment off.

    I’ve been flogging dirt and street bikes for years using T6 mainly with no engine related failures. Riding and racing at a high level. Rotella is as good as the other best oils in the category. But hey, use whatever makes you feel comfortable.

    • @alejandrotobienne8220
      @alejandrotobienne8220 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Some street guys use it at the track days. T6 is and Rotella for turbos. Turbos get hotter than any bike heat could produce.

      What's wrong with moto oi? I can't figure out this need to switch to dark secret oil. I love the fact you have to specify that you haven't have an oil related failures. People who run moto oil don't have to state this fact and life is easy haha. The thing most people overlook is what happens to rotella under extreme heat, do a little bit more research and you will connect the dots to why clutches slip under extreme heat with diesel oil. Not hot engine enduro baby slips. Proper moto fourth gear 450 slipping in a rut, clutch will be done in a single lap if you run rotella.

      It will it just gets dark from the additives quicker than anything. But it’s pretty good stuff as if you’ve seen an engine tear down. It leaves little to no wear when used properly. Running it like a raped ape all bets are off but used accordingly it’s great stuff.

    In 2011 or 2012 at the General GNCC, my pit was across from Paul Whibley. Before the race, I watched his mechanic pour white bottle Rotella in his YZ450. I walked over and asked about it, and the guy said that was what Rekluse told him to use. I don't think Rekluse suggests Rotella now since they have their own oil, but for a top-level team such as that to use it, I was on it after that. Zero problems after an unknown amount of races in 10 years in local Hairscramble Vet A and a couple of years in AA.

    I am glad you brought up flashpoints. Many are not familiar with this. I use Amsoil Dominator for that reason. I rarely get spooge out of the exhaust and my power valves in my bikes are always looking good.

    Alot of people do not know but this oil is simply for the clutch and gear box and does nothing for your crankshaft and piston on a 2 smoker. I use Rotella for both my 2 and 4 stroke engines. Cheap oil changed often is what Jay Clarke says the guy who builds all the bikes for the magazine's. I'm gonna say he knows what's up.

    • @kananisA75
      @kananisA75 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jay is not going hard though, so whatever oil you use (with MA/MA2 spec) if you change it at 5 hours intervals and not riding hard it's fine. If you are bouncing of the rev limiter a lot then i would not trust rotela t6.
      Engine rebuilds are a lot of money for a 4 stroke, i am willing to pay i bit extra for a good motorcycle oil.

Engines are always clean, no wear issues and no failures, lots of miles and hours, enduros, harescrambles, trail riding and ice racing. We've had our current bikes for 10 years. You mention temps being a concern but with diesel motors yes the RPM are less but often temps are a bit higher especially due to the turbos of turbo diesels. My truck often sees exhaust gas temps of 1,200F+ oil temps get up to the 250F when pulling heavy trailers up grade. 4:34

    regarding the rpm diesel turbochargers that are oil lubricated turn in excess of 150,000 rpm and are rated for continuous use at 1,750 degrees. IDK if the moto specific oils are better but I live in a rural area and am 1.5 hours from a powersports dealer. I like the fact that I can go to any parts store or walmart and find the oil easily. I have ran rotella in all of my dirtbikes since 2005 in motocross and harescramble races, 4 different generators, can-am x3 turbo, polaris rzr, 140hp suzuki outboard, 8 hp mercury outboard, wood splitter, two separate f250 powerstrokes, yamaha fz-09 streetbike, suzuki sv650, suzuki drz400. 2015 KTM 300 XCW with 650 hrs using Shell Rotella T4. Here’s the motorcycle rating directly from the bottle, JASO DH-2, MA, MA2.
    Originally the T4 was for diesel engines which run very hot and are “extremely” violent inside, far more than a rung-out -stroke tranny. Don’t use synthetic it’s too slick, use the conventional T4.
    As for pre-mix, I use Amsoil Saber at 60:1, it runs clean and my crank went 500+ hrs before showing signs of needing rebuild. That includes a box of trophies!

    Morgan, great info sir. You are very correct about Amsoil Saber. It says in the Amsoil catalog that it is for "handheld two-stroke equipment at any mix ratio up to 100.1." The Amsoil Dominator is a 2- stroke racing oil. "Delivers outstanding wear protection in high-horsepower and modified racing or trail motors, including snowmobiles, motorcycles, ATVs, personal watercraft, go-carts and outboard motors." I am an Amsoil Independent Dealer, new to Amsoil but not new to the products I represent. We all should educate each other. And it's ok to disagree. You can't tell grown people what to do as my uncle would say. Thank you Morgan for your insight. I got myself edgeumacated this evening. Slow woods and technical single track and my riding style the lower flashpoints work better for me. Desert riding and full pin racing is a different story. All the dealers try to sell me Motul 800 which has a crazy high Flashpoint of of close to 500. Anything from say 190 f to 220 works for me. But yeah keep your filters on clean and go ride. And spend a few minutes re packing your muffler every once in a while!

I have a dr650 that has 40k on it with zero issues. An xr650r with zero issues. If all experiences with rotella are positive than does it really matter if it is recommended for motorcycles from the factory? If you need a few extra hp in a hurry, use Less than 0W oil. I did it often for dyno days or if I was racing something equally as fast as me. Never noticed any negative effects on the engines components. It will make more noise though, but I promise it will be fine for limited use.

    I prefer Amsoil. Ran this in my 76 gt500 CCI system and Honda hp (red bottle) in crankcase. The mechanic that performed overhaul told me the bearings looked brand new for the age. I prefer Amsoil interceptor for the TPI bikes. The Gear Saver 80w is going in all dirt bike crankcases. None of my bikes have blown up or had transmission issues. Whatever your choices are don't be cheap and keep it clean. Brap on!!

      Amsoil is great but it loses on some instances. And unless you get it at a good price a group 3 oil is just fine. I get Metric 10w40 at 13 dollars a quart vs 12 for Mobil 1 T4. Versus 16 a quart. But I don’t mind tossing in T6 15W40 from time to time.

    I've been running Castrol Power1 Racing 2T for a while now in my 300 KTM. It's half the price of blessed oils where I get it from and works very good for enduro style riding as it burns fast and clean. I forgot that spooge was a thing after switching to it.
    I also run the 4T oil from the same Castrol line in my gearbox with good results. Works the same as any other engine oil, also at half the price. I'll try some Gear Saver though, as it seems to make sense to run an oil that's specific for a separate gearbox and a clutch as is the case for two stroke bikes, rather than have the engine oil in there with a makeup designed primarily for a very different purpose in the top end.

    I was using Amsoil gear oil forever and decided to try Rotella T4 in my KTM 200 and YZ125X based on all the favorable reviews. I honestly cannot tell the difference between them and love the performance of both. Perhaps if I didn't change it frequently I'd notice the difference down the line. I've gone back and forth with Amsoil Dirt and Rotella T4 on my 230F and can't tell the difference either. I do change within the 600 mile recommendation though....and a 230F would probably run fine on anything. Many folks say the thicker oil will make the CRF run hotter. My Vapor thermometer was indicating identical temperatures. Ran the Amsoil 10W40 Dirt up to 700 miles in the CRF and the consistency was like water color paint when I drained it.

    • @alejandrotobienne8220
      @alejandrotobienne8220 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just remember Rotella is made to handle Turbo heat. Unless your trans is getting that hot. I wouldn’t worry too much. And that low a mileage you might as well just grab a 5 quart jug and have at least 3 changes.

    Well everyone debating the oil mentioned but I am asking for an opinion on Belray 2T mineral oil ….. I have for many years used Amsoil synthetic dominator with very good results but definitely spooge on the tail pipe. I purchased my first Beta 200rr with oil injection and the dealer recommended the Belray Mineral 2T. Just wondering if anyone has used this and their opinion on this oil. Dealer said his personal experience over many years riding is less build-up/ clogging, including power valves.

    Great points in your video. I own a Ram 3500 with the 6.7 Cummins Turbo diesel and i tow a boat in the desert southwest where temps can get over 115 degress and ive always used Rotella T6 in it as that truck gets super hot but can take it. I say that because i also own 5 dirt bikes 4 2Ts and 1 YZ450 and I've been soooooo temped to use T6 in them all, including my boat as well. But for whatever reason I continue using Bel-ray SL2 for my premix, and the Bel-ray synthetic for my 450 and Im just not comfortable making the switch. Also my boat engine is a Mercruiser 5.7 so I use the manufacturer suggested Quicksilver oil. Regardless I'm certain Rotella is a great oil as most in these comments suggest.

    For about 15 years (From my teens through my mid 30s) I ran regular car oil. I'd use whatever was cheapest in all my bikes. Over that timeframe, I put probably 100k miles on a mix of Cruisers, rockets and enduros and I NEVER had an issue with a clutch slipping. After I paid off my house and eliminated all car loans around 10 years ago, and I actually had some specinding money, I switched to bike specific oil. Now the Wally world bike oil is about $10 per quart. I now have multiple ATVs (No more bikes) and I'm switching to Rotella T6 as. Sounds like everyone else is having good luck with it.

  • @mrskywalker115
    @mrskywalker115 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Engineer here lol As for Rotella not being for high rpm applications, diesels often use turbos which are way higher rpm and generate alot of shear stresses and that is part of why it holds up well in tests and its very common for use in turbo cars. I'm a fan of T6 in everything that it meets specs. My cars now require 0w so not an option but my Grom has always had it run in there and 35kmiles still original top end and no burning oil(big issue on grom even at low miles) and used it in my recently sold turbo miata, mazdaspeed3, and VW TDI. I dont really care if someone doesnt want to use it so I dont push others to use it. Everything Ive studied says its fine and it saves me alot in long run in time finding the right oil for each vehicle and I just get 2.5gal at time so able change oil easily and often.

The bike would not run in gear at idle without popping the throttle. I tried shell Rotella and it had a lot of plate stickage. So I went to atf and burned up my plates in one ride like an idiot. I finally switched to John Deere Hydraulic Oil because of the similarity of the clutches and transmissions to tractors and the clutch feel is amazing. Sorry this is so long. My 2 cents. 2.5 gallons for $18.00
