TSW3 Tutorial Setting up and driving the ICE1 with Safety Systems LZB AFB PZB SIFA

  • I will walk you through the ICE1 driver's features and the setup of the train and safety systems including LZB, PZB, AFB and SIFA and tell you what each does, what its for and how they work together. We do through through a full length run from Kassel to Wurzburg with a stop at Fulda. I snip out all the bits not useful for instruction to keep this as short as possible. It is a bit of a long one because it covers quite a bit.
Disclosure: I received TSW3 for free from Dovetail Games.

Thank you so much. I was really frustrated as I'm a casual gamer and novice to trains. I'm really getting into the trains though. I was really getting frustrated driving these trains manually knowing there was a sophisticated system designed. I took all the tutorials and watched a few videos. But I finally got to the right video , - this one and the safety systems make sense now. You do a wonderfully job of explaining. You can also feel your passion for the trains in your voice. Thanks again. I will be checking out more of your videos to see what else I can learn/ enjoy !

This was great thank you for doing this! One thing: the 'G' light means (if AFB is off) driver needs to brake. If AFB is on, it means brakes are being applied. Not necessarily that the train will stop.

How do we reset the train if we fail to acknowledge the 1000/500hz magnets? I’ve resetted the PZB and emergency brakes after the train comes to a complete stop but there seems to be no power when I use the throttle

    • @trainsimulatordriver

Have you got a red box on the HUD where the throttle number usually is? If you do then you have traction lock. The video covers resetting from that.

@@trainsimulatordriver Nope no red box. I’ll explain a bit more.
I tried ignoring the pzb acknowledge after the 60kmph signal on the approach the wurzburg to work out the procedure to reset it. The train came to an emergency stop and then I pressed the PZB release and acknowledge buttons, making the blue marker alternate between 70 and 85 and the yellow marker with a “1000hz” come up. Then I resetted the brake pipe using the HLL Fill, released the train brakes and used the throttle. At this point, the box with the throttle number was white, but even with a 10 on the throttle, the kN on the left of the HUD remained at 0 the entire time.

When you are just starting out don't turn on the safety systems - leave them off while you're learning. As you become proficient with the train turn on SIFA first and learn to handle that, then try PZB and finally LZB.
SIFA makes sure you're awake periodically and you acknowledge it, if you don't it will stop you.
PZB enforces the signaling requirements and you have to acknowledge.
LZB is cruise control, sit back and relax and let the train do the work.

Do you know why this is happening?

    • @trainsimulatordriver
      @trainsimulatordriver  ปีที่แล้ว +1

The time table runs often start and finish off route because that's where the trains go in real life. You spawn into the first station that's actually part of the route and your run finishes on the last station actually on the route in game. Look at the route map to see the boundaries. It's not lying to you it's just representing the full world in a limited way that works for the game. It's not possible to model the full world in any meaningful enjoyable way.

acknowledge simply lets the system know you saw and will act on the signal, release is used when you're in monitoring (the flashing 75/80 or 40/80) and you can see the next signal is green - it releases you from the 45km/h restriction. Some trains also use release if you get a penalty brake to reset so you can drive again

What train and route? LZB needs to be supported by the route. Look for a wire down the centre of the track. LZB will also need AFB turned on (I think, not 100% sure on the ice 1 - it's been a while lol). These systems definitely work on this train.

It's likely you have a traction lock. The ICE1 can be difficult to drive. On the HUD there's a square box which has numbers in it that change as you move the throttle. Is the outline of that box red or white?

When you first leave the station you often get a safe to release, but you can see the signal ahead isn't green. Don't release! There are other reasons you could be stopped such as going to fast. In the ICE1 for example if you have LZB turned on it can run at line speed, but if you try it manually you will be held to a lower speed (160 from memory I think) so you can stop in time for an adverse signal. You might also be getting stopped by sifa, I suggest turning on one safety system at a time while you learn.

I've got a new issue, when driving the BR 403 I am paying attention and using the AFB. Then I need to slow down, I break in time and never break the speed limit, but: the red box appears and nothing I do increases speed anymore. Yesterday it seemed to happen even at just brake 1 or 2, meaning the red box appeared.
I think this means the train will throw up the red box when AFS is giving gas and I break slightly. But that's a different issue, because if I put throttle to zero the red box dissapears - as I think is logical- and I can keep going. Sometimes the train does die permanently though, and its making me paranoid.
