Is Metal Gear Solid: Delta Snake Eater Playing It TOO SAFE?
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 12 ก.ค. 2024
- From 2019’s Resident Evil 2 to 2020’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth just a few months ago, we have seen more than a few times in recent years that even though it can be a huge risk for remakes to deviate from the script, if they do it well, it can also pay off handsomely.
That was the approach that many were hoping the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater would take, so it’s unsurprising to see people reacting disappointingly to how faithful of a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 it is going to be.
And while that is easy to understand, given the unique situation that Metal Gear is (and has been in for several years), playing it safe is perhaps the smartest thing that Konami can do for the IP right now.
No it's not playing it "too safe"
Konami has one of the steepest hills possible to climb since 2015 and doing anything different (especially storywise) would be utterly idiotic.
Exactly! Changing the original would show that they’ve learned nothing, and that would be bad for business.
Disagree to be honest. If the core premise and plot is unchanged, then expanding it, for example, make the world bigger with longer levels would be a huge welcome. The game is probably slightly short length for today's standard.
I'm still excited for it and I really hope they remake peace walker after this
@shush97 MGS 3 is 16-19 hrs long. I think that's a fair length for a semi linear game.
@@shush97 expanding is a great idea in some cases (Dead Space nailed it), but in this case, definitely not.
Delta is Konami’s chance to show the fans goodwill. Aside from improvements that need to be made due to the age of the original (graphics, controls), changing anything within the design of the game itself will undermine Kojima’s original version - and this game is an auteur piece which fans take seriously. Also, the length (12ish hours?) is perfectly fine, not every single player game needs to be 20+ hours, that’s far too much and the pacing would suffer.
All they need to do is keep it the way it is, but better if that makes sense.
@@shush97it’s only short if you don’t play it like a stealth game if u do mgs3 including cutscenes is easily a 20hr experience brah that’s plenty would rather have a small repeatable brilliant game than boring 100 hour game
This is a argument I can’t stand in gaming, if a remake differs to much from the original they’re trashed for changing to much & trying to fix what isn’t broken but if a remake is too faithful with only changes to the Graphics & quality of life changes to gameplay then it’s considered too safe, people need to make up their their damn minds.
I would prefer a remake that tries to add something new or expand on areas that wasn't really possible before, I think what they are doing with MGS3 is fine though
No, there are extremes on both ends, re4 is a perfect example of middle ground, rather that alter just expand
@@cronosxxx1010matrixx but it seems the more extreme reactions are when a remake doesn’t change much or at all, a good example is the last of us remake that came out in 2022, there were zero changes story, nothing added other then Vastly upgraded graphics & they completely overhauled the enemy AI which was needed cause the AI wasn’t the best in the original 2013 release & before it came out people in droves were saying don’t change anything, it was perfect as is & when it came out the amount of those same people bitching that got what they wanted was pathetic.
I don’t understand the argument either way, because it’s literally just a matter of ‘don’t like/want it then don’t buy it’. I didn’t even want TLOUP1 when I initially saw the announcement for the remake, but the marketing won me over and now I can’t go back to the original, whereas people complained regardless of whether they bought it or not, which isn’t how business works.
MGS Delta especially though - Konami would be insane to deviate/expand on it the way that Capcom have done with Resi. They’re not in the spot to do this as they haven’t earned any trust from the fans for obvious reasons.
I made my mind up with remakes of games I found close to perfection in the 1st place along time ago. I stick to playing the original so I’m never disappointed with the outcome. Remasters I buy. Remakes of classics that I already love & own the hardware to play them on, I have no need for.
I’d much rather have developers come up with some new original IP’s.
I rather have them playing it too safe than risk alienating the fans.
Fax, now afterwards they can get creative with the rest
Its just going to soulless cash grab remake . Shit bet it will make pro government because the old one exposed them so hard
We should blame journalists as well (Gaming-Bolt included) that encourages fan alienation
Also, it's by FAR the easiest game to remake anyway in the orginal trilogy. If they will Remake the first game( which they are I've heard) they'd have to completely do it from the scratch.
We have too many "Safe" remake games that ended up being forgotten in less than a month after release or total snooze fests. The Resident Evil remake games were overall boring and not equal to their counterparts. FF7 remake was a disaster that knocked Squaresoft into the redline, SH2R is looking to be yet another disaster by a outsourced studio and now we have Metal Gear Detla, that clearly doesn't have Kojima at the helm, Konami not developing it and new writers attempting to modernize a ageless classic. This is what playing it safe means = Modern Audience. Its going to be another netflix adaptation. Pleasing no one.
Making a game fans want isn’t safe it’s smart. Not everything has to be an experiment that costs 70 bucks.
Yeah, this is the one exception where it’s innovation is a bad idea.
If they want to change things up then they can do that once they’ve remade enough games.
2024 graphics, a couple of extra mechanics and an overhaul of the horrible press and hold controls from the original is all I want really.
@@stefansibbes2440 the permanent wounds that they’re adding is a game changer IMO.

Not changing anything is an act of respect to Kojima legacy.
it’s also a 20 year old game, the gameplay at least should reflect recent metal gear titles.
It has changed tho@@cronosxxx1010matrixx

Yes and no. The camo section should have gotten an upgrade
People complain when a remake changes things and they complain if it doesn't change
They are doing everything right. I like the fact in the camo menu. All you have to do is press r2, and you swap between face paint and uniforms. And adding new features that match with the games background like scars staying on snake even after you heal them.
Konami is in no position to take risk
I am perfectly fine with the remake just being a visual and modern gaming update. I don't think there will be that much push back because it is still Hideo's story and work. It would be nice if Hideo had the rights to the franchise but business world sucks. I would like to see a true updated remake of all of them from the ground up.
Eh, Hideo was done with the franchise long ago, he wanted out at MGS2 but they kept pulling him back in again.
If hideo kojima is not involved....they better play it safe.
It’s a tricky one as Kojima has moved on either way, and the story is already technically complete.
The only ways Konami can move forward aside from remakes/remasters would be to make non canonical/spin off entries (Rising 2 - which could be a good thing), or to completely risk it with a new saga within the universe (which could be as effective as the Star Wars sequel trilogy).
But yeah, 100% play it safe.
Unlike FF and RE, MGS has a very complete OG storyline. And because the stories of each work are closely connected, changing from OG is too risky.
Never played the original so I'm looking forward to it.
You should also play the original
No need
@@killtubecameron there won’t be any point. This remake will be 1:1, and will overhaul the gameplay.
@tomparkin2068 i get that I just ment it's a game worth playing
Just play the remake. I played the OG and still unsure if this is worth getting since it's pretty much a graphical overhaul.
It is EXACLTY how to tackle this remake to make a real remake. Not an recreate of that game. It must star the same masterpiece with only polished up. Story please absolutely untouched.
My worry is they put the gameplay of 5 into a carbon copy of 3 and we can breeze through it in a few hours.
Yeah the game is going too soft, too easy and overly modern. Theres too many questions and warning signs. Like the game is being developed by Metal Gear outsiders NOT Konami. Just like Silent Hill 2 remake is. And like all remake games from the past 7 years, they always tone them down for the zoomer audience and jurnos, take out everything that made it special and blame the fans for not liking it. Then we have no more FOX engine (MGSV looks like it could have came out this year) and borked faces. What’s wrong with the Boss? Why change her? Why is it the women only get changed?
The game is being made by people who worked on the original. And the Fox Engine was a pain in the ass to use so they dumped it. Know what you're talking about before commenting
Like the other guy said you don’t know what you’re talking about
MGSV looks like shit compare to Delta. It's an outdated engine
Tell us you don't know what you're talking about without telling us.
The only thing i eish is bigger jungle areas in between the existing ones ☝️
OmG! Leave it alone, this is what most of us true fans want. A one to one remake with better graphics and game play.
Konami aren’t exactly in a position to innovate if they want to revive the franchise. Playing it safe is by far the more sensible way to go if they’d like to redeem themselves to the fans.
More people will complain and likely disengage if Delta deviates from the source material. A 1:1 remake makes sense.
As soon as they’ve remade/remastered enough games, they can do whatever they want to the franchise for all I care. If it’s good then I’ll get it, and if it’s not then I won’t.
For God’s sake, when they changed something as subtle as the hue/tint, many people said “Oh, it lacks soul. It is not the same”. Now that is an almost 1:1 recreation you say it is “too safe”. Come onnnn
I think this is just fine. There first priority should be regaining gamers trust. So, yes, baby steps
I think choosing to remake mgs3 first is a smart idea hence mgs3 (imo) is a perfect game, it just needs some quality of life changes like a quick camo menu, crouch walk, improved graphics, etc. But i wonder where will they go to next? is it going to be chronological and the go with peace walker or are they going to remake mgs1. I wish i can play mgs1 in current gen graphics with mgsv controls that would be amazing.
Hope the rail shooting section is revamped
Gaming-Bolt you know damn well most people don't want significant changes. Why purposely make this content unless infuriating viewers was your goal? For clicks?
Are From Software playing it too safe considering every one of their games has been the same since Demon's Souls??
Yes. People buy them so the "God of Gaming Miyazaki" doesn't need to change anything.😂
Mgs 3 was a perfect masterpiece. Honestly just modern gameplay and graphics are all it needs. Just those 2 things alone will make the game almost completey new
There’s literally no way it can be too safe. They’re messing with one of the all time greatest games ever, they don’t need to do anything to it at all. Preferably less is more here. New shiny graphics, maybe some slight tweaks to the controls… that is all I want from delta.
It's a Remaster/Remake. There's nothing safer.
A remake like final fantasy 7 remake? 😅
A Remake not a Remaster
Remake
@@jaywayytoofresh9670correct, but so many remakes have been marketed as remasters that people now believe that is the case for 1:1 remakes - hard to blame them tbh.
Bad take, A remake that is staying loyal to the original without having soulless people messing it up because they just hate gaming and gamers.
With the updated controls and refinement im extremely happy with the game
I think it's good that they don't do anything crazy different. But since they have updated the controls I think it should only be fair that they also update the level design/ map layout of some areas.
Also a small new cut scene with Skull Face would be perfect since in MGS 5 they explained he was around during the events of MGS 3.
But I'll guess we have to wait to see what they actually cooked up!
Safe is for the better as i wouldn't trust Konami with this franchise without Kojima. See what they did with MG Survive. But i do wish they had created a bigger map to get the feeling of being in a big jungle with smaller camps stationed across the map. Rewards being upgrades, outfits, weapons and cassette tapes of the Boss talking about her involvement. And a secret underground base where you find The Boss' belongings and a cassette tape about her relationship with Snake. Think fans would appreciate that. But Konami would never be able to create something like that.
I agree that keeping it as close to the original is the best way to go. Upgrading the visuals and gameplay mechanics is enough to make a great remake. I hope it comes out this year! I heard maybe not until November 2025!!?
The last time they didn’t “play safe” we got Metal Gear Survive, all we want is updated graphics modernised controls and UI.
The only thing that they dont need to play safe is the ability to go topless regardless which camo you have selected. This game is coming to PC though I suspect a lot of mods coming when the game arrives.
MgGS3 is IMO the best game ever made. If it’s the exact same I’ll be happy, but I wouldn’t complain if they added a few more stealth/combat areas or something.
Formula to an excellent remake is so simple yet so effective: change nothing, improve everything.
Im perfectly happy with them doing an exact replica of the original game but with enhanced graphics. The original was a masterpiece
I mean, I wouldn’t mind a little bit extra even if there’s like 10 extra lines of dialogue but areas can be a little bit bigger and new areas put together. I wouldn’t mind it.
Vehemently disagree with this take. MGS3 is an incredibly intricate experience. Changing the story as little as possible is the way to go here.
Not only that, it's the first chronological entry in the timeline. If they fuck something up here, it will affect the story in later games. So no, they have to get this right.
I agree with what Konami is doing right now. However, it would be nice if they expanded existing areas and add more soldiers. So when you play the game on normal. It would provide a challenge with the updated control scheme. It seems like they are putting in MGS 5 gameplay into this remake. If it's a 1 for 1 remaster. I'll still be excited to play it. However, if they don't expand areas or add more soldiers. Then the game could be too easy on normal.
I would have liked to see the story unchanged but a full mgsv style gameplay rework + map rework.
If they don’t do a Remake of metal gear 1 and 2 it will be a crime. They will have a lot pressure on that. If they nail it I will never doubt Konami
I have not heard anyone complain about any of this
4:03 “On one hand” I see what you did there.
playing it safe is perfect for this. i’m usually one to push for more innovation in remakes but in Konamis case innovation means more microtransactions so i think this is perfectly fine to just streamline the experience and bring it up to modern standards without messing with the core too much.
I’m going to be really interested into how it actually “feels” to play and if they’ll incorporate anything from MGSV. Which, for me, still stands as having some of the smoothest gameplay mechanics from character control, to weapon selection.
A faithful remake is better than a remake than a new entry that is so different it's not even the same IP anymore.
I’ve been playing Metal since 1998. I’m beyond excited for this game.
Playing it safe with this remake was the best decision Konami could've made with Delta. Bloober is being "riskier" with the SH2 remake and is looking very disappointing.

As a faithful mgs3 fan, which I have played more times than I would like to admit. Plus playing it on ps2, ps3, vita, switch, and 3ds. I’m more than happy to play it again, with nothing changed but graphics and gameplay. To say “they’ve kept me waiting” for this.
Safe remakes are the best thing that can happen to old beloved franchises.
Konami will be a household name again, for both the OGs and the shorties
THEY SHOULD HAVE UPDATED IT TO LOOK MORE LIKE MGS 5 THAT WOULD HAVE LOOKED SO 😎 COOOL
Metal Gear can still add bonus content with new stuff and ideas to do and explore
They need to play it safe when it comes to snake eater. I believe they are doing this to get the go ahead to remake Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. They can be way more ambitious with those games. They need to just make a good 1:1 remake of the original for now.
No. Konami has to be safe with their beloved franchises from now on. Better safe than sorry.
Who cares? We'll get to play one of the best MGS games again, but I honestly think they've also made some other welcome changes.
Play it safe and just update the graphics. Changing too much story wise would classify the game as reimagining like RE2, RE3, and RE4. Too much change and you risk splitting the fan base which could hurt sales.
They are updating some of the gameplay too, looking like MGSV.
No they’re doing what they need to do. It’s already my favorite game I don’t want some “reimagining”. I’m happy they’re not trying to change it to much.
Can't wait for this. It's going to be awesome!
As the saying goes: “Better safe than sorry”
Konami is not playing it safe, they are cheap. Why using the same old dub files? It's important of course to keep it and let people choose between dubs. A fresh new dub with David Hayter in the lead, giving the graphical upgrade also a needed audio upgrade.
@@TheAufziehvogel I think otherwise. Since it’s a 1:1 remake then why change them? They still hold up today, and it will help the remake feel like a Kojima game.
If lines are re-recorded, something might feel a bit off or a bit too different, and that might not sit well with people.
Also, there’s nothing wrong with cutting costs by keeping these original voice lines. If it ain’t broke then don’t fix it.
People when Remake is not true to the original: 😡
People when Remake is "playing it safe" and its 100% completely remaking the same game true to the original: 😡
Less deviation.
Faithful to the source material.
Also Metal Gear Solid has a tradition of being a showcase for a perfectly optimized game on any given platform.
@@leukocyte6100I’m curious how they’d remake MGS1, whether they’d do it 1:1 with the same camera, or go 3rd person/over the shoulder, or both (with a legacy system). I’m wondering if it would even work with a 3rd person perspective or if the game would feel smaller.
But yes - MGS still plays as well as it did on the PS1. I’d probably only change a couple of things such as controls (aiming during the sniper wolf fights isn’t fun, and the rappel sequence is a bit clunky), the camera could perhaps do with a bit of work for that long staircase action sequence, and I’d probably also implement 1st person aiming.
No. They are doing good as far as I can tell
Metal gear solid 1 and 3 are the best games ever made. They don’t need improving . I remember in lockdown I played MGS 1-4 for the first time in years. Afterwards I returned to playing uncharted and the last of us (love these games) and realised how below mgs they were. We were so lucky we got the play Hideos goat games and that level will never be reached again ❤
From the day it was announced, fans were making big demands and even moaning about the lack of Kojima... So far, the developers has to play it safe. While actively taking in suggestions is helpful, a number of fans are fickle asf. For instance, they didn't want any changes to the voice acting from the original, even comparing it to MGS1 and Twin Snakes as if that remake was a crime. So the developers stated that they will be using the exact same recorded voiceovers from the original Snake Eater with little to no charge at all, so then fans have started to moan and say that it is cheap and unoriginal. You can't satisfy these gamers, they'll likely kill the franchise themselves.
Konami cannot be trusted right now to not "play it safe" imo. Better they use Kojima's old team's decisions and make it look pretty.
considering MGS3 is one of my favorite games of all time, and the controls are about the only thing i think has aged about the game. i am glad they are playing it safe. i don't want them to reinvent the wheel, just MGS4 controls in MGS3 would be enough. i just want MGS3 enhanced edition really. as close to the original as possible with modern polish and quality of life improvements.
You'd be the same one to complain if they made changes. Lose lose huh? Not too safe. It's respectful.
In this case, playing it safe is what people want and beed from Konami.
I love the mgs content gamebolt, but they are doing it 100% correct. Keeping it as authentic to the original, this is what we wanted.
This fence is only relevant to shareholders. Change my mind.
Nope nothing wrong with safe..I rather safe than changing things for modern audiences
Short answer, NO. If they add a bunch of new mechanics you know damn well you can expect an uproar by OG fans. Besides the new camera and control scheme, I guarantee some reviewers will still criticize it for "not bringing anything new". Can't please everyone
After playing MGS V for more than 200 hours, a remake of the first 3 games of the series with the same controls and animations from MGS V is more than enough for me. I know V is devisive and all but that game's controls and stealth mechanics are just God-tier.
Better to play it safe than a Resident Evil 3 Hours
Hope the AI will get an update too... considering guard routes, alertness and so on.
The same can be said about every single sony game but I never hear any complains about it
Y'all need to learn the difference between remakes and reimaginings. RE2 and RE4 are reimaginings. They arent remaking what is already here, they are taking whats there to build something similar but fundamentally different. This is a faothful remake with added features. The core experience remains the same.
I totally disagree. This is the best move for them, just do a faithful remake and don’t fuck it up with new bs
Can you imagine the fanboys cries if they were changing anything? I don’t think they had a choice, and at least they are trying now.
I include myself in this fanboy category but I’m just stoked for more MG/ SH.
That is difficult question. Just remember MGS and MGS Twin Snakes. Still the same game, but Twin Snakes overdid it. I love MGS3 but even I don't think that I will buy it day one. I would rather see new guality game from Konami. It is years since their last great new game. New Castlevania would be great.
I’ve heard this opinion before, that Twin snakes is inferior to the OG. I loved being able to stick ppl up in 1st person.
It begs the fundamental question about remakes when so many of them flood the gaming scene- who are they for? Old players? Or new? I believe it must be for those who were there from the beginning, and if it also brings in new fans, that’s excellent.
That being said, when we’re talking about a title that’s so beloved and that’s been out of the limelight for a good chunk of time, like the FF7’s, Metal Gear’s, and even many Zelda’s, I believe the originals are so good on their own that we should be asking for something new from the developers. We already have access to adjustments like upgraded character models or environmental upgrades, mods that make our already great games even better. But we should be asking for something new that’s worth our dollar, not the same thing with a simple fresh coat of paint. That was cool when there were larger visual discrepancies between gaming tech in earlier generations, but I just don’t think this’ll hit quite as hard while taking such minimal risks. It also promotes laziness and lack of innovation.
(Yes there are also more elaborate fan mods that add story and gameplay to these classic titles, but it’s not quite the same when it’s not developer official)
As much as I love FF7 gameplay, having FF7R’s action-turn based hybrid is brilliant, fun, and different. It’s absolutely excellent RPG combat design. When looking at Link’s awakening, the OG is still amazing, but the remake is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. Resident Evil remakes also shine AMAZINGLY here. These are all well-made, beautiful, and absolutely stellar (NEW) experiences that don’t overwrite their original source material- they STAND BESIDE and COMPLEMENT their original source material. I’m afraid MGS3Delta will continue to make me just want to play the original because it’s not new enough while maybe being different in the wrong ways, and let’s not even act like the OG MGS3 is like some archaic eyesore. It’s most definitely not. But we’ll just have to wait and see.
Id go on the record saying that the remake batches we've gotten so far have been fairly underwhelming. The sudden excuse of "oh it cant be the same" , "no one would play a 1:1 remake", "fans would get upset", is the biggest crock of ***t going out there for PR word salads. We wanted ff7 retold with all the bells and whistles: didn't get it, we wanted the RE remake saga retold: got half assed movie games that toned down the gore, violence, fanservice and plot, we wanted Metal Gear 1 remade from the MSX: Konami sold out and has some woke studio producing it (same with SH series). These aren't remakes, they are IP cash ins and re-imagining plots that can be digested in a weekend.
I'll say the same to Kojima as I would to Joe Biden:

They playing safe
Because the lack of talent < see survive from Konami > is remaster cover as a remake
Just see the quality of Konami “master collection “
I wander if they are gonna put a warning “ maybe have offensive content “ you know for the cristal gen
If they eventually decide to make a remake of the original metal gear that some thing that they can go all out with new stuff with because it was from the NES different error
I think there are two directions they could go with remaking Metal Gear.
1. The way you’re saying, in which an experienced writing team would take the structure of MG and redo it.
2. Make a faithful but stylised remake in the style of Link’s Awakening - where the DNA of the game is kept the same, albeit with some polish and QoL changes. Could even do an HD 2D remake similar to how they’re doing with JRPGs these days.
I’d be up for either though.
I agree that this would be the way to go! They can experiment with those titles, and by the time they get to MGS1, they would know what the fans want. But, they better bring back David Hayter to voice Snake! It honestly seems likely since Konami has brought him in in a large part to market the Master Collection and Delta.
I was hoping for a RE4 caliber of remake. But still excited to see what this will become.
I feel like compared too resident evil 2 and its remake, mgs 3 is waaaaay more rich in detail and story that the only thing needed is a re fresh in graphics, but maaan I would love to see a more of raidens story in the child soldiers with solidus, or what the boss was up to before mgs 3 with cobra. I’m sure there’s a lot of cut shit from scrips to be enough to faithfully build on what could have been.
IM a big fan of MGS all my life and I also have this concern. I think a 1 on 1 remake might not be interesting enough for a lot of new players.
I could be wrong but didnt Resident Evil have continuity errors and the remakes fixed and expanded on the narrative? Metal Gear Solid didnt have that issue at least by the time of Snake Eater. So it seems wrong to compare the two. I'm saying this as someone whose currently playing RE4 Remake and loving the enhanced story and expanded things like the slaughter house and Mendes' expanded background as the priest.
But MGS didnt suffer that much of an issue.
I think its great they're being safe. I just want a modernized remake. New controls new AI but keep the core story and locals the same.
Too safe ?
Its a remaster/remake, it just be the same guy but with today graphics and also they allowed you to play with MGS V gameplay style
