Airstream Cabinet Door Hinges & Drawer Slides 101

- There have been a few questions in the TH-cam comments (as well as on our Facebook Page - / airstreamnerd ) regarding how the hinges and drawers in our Airstreams work. Specifically how the doors come apart and go back together and also how to take the drawers out so I put this quick how-to together to visually answer that question. For Reference our Airstream is a 2015 Flying Cloud Front Bed in the twin bed configuration. I know that many years before 2015 and since also use the same hinges and slides but I cannot guarantee that this tutorial will work for all models/years.

Good information. Thank you. Yea, after every trip I patrol through our 23FB looking for loose screws, latches and whatever. A few times a year I also check every screw I can find for tightness. I fix stripped screw holes with some wood epoxy or a longer screw if it won’t penetrate anything vital on the other side. Some of the roads we travel can beat the heck out of both the trailer and truck.

Good video. If you were to upgrade the orange drawer slide clips what product would you use? These really seem cheap for such expensive trailers.
You would probably have to change out the entire drawer slide. BUT I do not see any issue with the orange clips and since I don't really ever take out the drawers and there is no stress on them under normal use they should last as long as the trailer.

We have a 2022 Flying Cloud and the overhead kitchen cabinets keep opening during transit. Any suggestions on how to prevent that?

On the door hinges, mine have popped off and i have lost those little cover plate things. Any idea how i can get replacement for those?
Not sure where you can get the cover plate things - but there is a product on my list to buy that will keep the hinges from popping off in the first place.

I don't know but they may be similar to the current ones. You can call Airstream and they may be able to help.

Wow. New Airstream owner. Seriously disappointed in the quality of the hinges. Sort of a ridiculous design flaw.
We have had our Airstream since 2015 and have only had 2 or 3 times where we had an issue with a hinge. The quick release is pretty handy if you need to remove the door but otherwise they could have picked a different hinge without the quick release for sure. Thanks for the comment.
@@AirstreamNerds Your video is super helpful. I have a different hinge on my clothes closet from the one near my fridge. There are just much better designs for hinges than the ones Airstream seems to be using. IMHO.
