    I’ve done a lot of riveting in my career but I learned from you today thank you. I have that same gun and I love it. Milwaukee Rocks.

    Thank you so much for all the content you providing. What you have been created is amazing. You've inspired us to overcome all doubts and finally getting started with our 1967 Airstream Safari exterior restoration. May we ask you a question, since we were wondering about the buck rivets you´re using. If you're using the universal head rivets from the mentioned shop, you need the 5/32 rivets to get the same head size of the 'original' 1/8 buck rivets, right? ... And to use them you need to extend the drill holes, right?

    Thank you Ian. I have done a few AS mods based on the skills in building aircraft. So, there are a few times where I countersink and dimple to get a soft smooth finish. There is a pop-rivet dimpler too that is super handy when you can’t get a compression tool in there. The other super handy tool is a de-burrer. Keeps the seems flush and tighter. I watched Rawls doing a slider and he was having issues b/c he didn’t de-burr. Great way to introduce the #20 and # 30 bits as well.

    Thanks for making this video Ian. I have an older Airstream but didn't understand the differences in rivets. You did a great job explaining each rivets use and their installation, as well as the drill sizes needed. Well done!

    Excellent vid. Just found and subscribed to your channel and gave a hands up! I have Casita Travel Trailer. It uses acorn nuts on the inside of trailer connecting to rivet. The rivets are used to hold up storage cabinets. Do you have advice and or a vid showing how to replace rivet from outside and connecting acorn nut inside? Thanks

    Great info... when working inside the Airstream with pop-rivets all seem to be the same 1/8" diameter, but how do you know which grip range to use?

    Where can I access the ‘more in depth’ buck riveting video? Not seeing the link you mention. Also, what is the best length buck rivet for exterior seam to seam & panel through rib? Thanks.

    Ian, I had a question about the Rivets that are used to hold the frame ribs to the C channel. Right at the bottom where they go and intersect the C channel perpendicularly. there is a rivet put in from the skin side that I don't understand how they would have gotten in there with the skin from the outside in the way. There was another segment as well on the outer skin when I was taking the shell off that had blind buck rivets. Wasn't sure how they would have gotten those in with the skin in the outside in the way. Unless the skin came after. Which is not how I thought they made these. 69 Overlander.

    Just in time Ian!. I've got my shell off and was just looking at all the Rivets and wondering what sizes and types I was dealing with. My trailer looks like it had some repairs done. I see a lot of Olympic Rivets around. But a lot of Buck style. I got my buck gun from eastwood. Just need a pop Rivet one now. Thanks for making these videos.

    Thanks for the great videos!! I am replacing the front lower panel on my ‘79 Avion and need to know what length of buck rivets to buy. They will just go thru the .032” skin and the rib. Thanks!

      Hey, thanks! Most likely it will be 3/8" in length. I would suggest getting 1/4" and the longest ones and then just cut down the long ones to the right size.

    Are you using the Olympic rivets to also reinstall the Airstream Land Yacht and other thick aluminum plaques on the outer skins?

      You can use them. We sometimes use sealant on the posts and double sided bodyshop panel tape if you dont want to drill holes in them.

    Can you flatten the back side of a pop rivet using the bucking bar and air hammer??

    • @MillerGarage
      @MillerGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you COULD. You probably wouldn't want to as the pop rivets strength comes from it being a tube, I feel like if you flatten it, it would lose rigidity.
