After JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan were found on Chad Daybell's property, Colby Ryan called his mother in jail and confronted her. Here is audio of that call played in court on Tuesday, April 18.

“You know who needed protecting? My little dead siblings!” Wow. This is horrific. I pray for Colby.
I'm so glad he said those things to her and although I've never really heard her say much.its quite obvious she is so far gone! He will Never get the answers he needs from her and it's almost as if she was simply tired of being a mom.her ranting about taking care of those children all those years...like she truly resented them.😢

Her cruelty toward her lovely son…hearing him cry out in pain… it’s unbearable to hear and imagine his loss. She seems to feel nothing for her precious offspring. Monster
Her family had no idea who she truly was. I feel so sad for Colby. She took everyone from him.

It wasn't who she was. She didn't change until she began reading Chad's books & met Chad.
In the trial so far I've not heard anything proving that she knew & agreed to what Chad did to her children & Tami; however, if she is Guilty, I certainly hope evidence will be brought forward to prove beyond a reasonable doubt.
That was intense. I'm impressed that Colby could still articulate his feelings so well when so angry and sad, I know I couldn't.

My mom is constantly putting herself and other family in bad circumstances and her response is always that she has faith, that nothing will happen to her. Hearing Colby talking to Lori is so chilling because he is pleading and trying to rationalize with her the same way I do with my mom. My heart goes out to him

As rightfully angry as he is, he amazingly is still trying to show her some type of compassion. It’s truly and horrifically heartbreaking 💔.
That's true, after the court cases this young man needs to try to put it all behind him before his own family is destroyed over it all. It sounded like his partner was recording it and she was very upset recording and listening the conversation between them. It is heart breaking to hear and think about, he is so traumatized over what she did and who can blame him.

Sorry to say that you probably don’t know what you are talking about! How did you reach the conclusion that Lori is not mentally ill? Are you a mental health professional with special training to conduct competency assessments in a forensic setting? As one of my teachers once told me: mental illness come in different packages!
I am appalled to read some of the comments on this page where people draw conclusions about the mental health status of Lori as if they were professional experts with expertise in conducting competency assessments in forensic settings!
Colby is impressive. It's hard to keep it together when speaking to someone like Lori. He stayed on her heels the whole time, countering her self pitying, self riteous bullshit at every turn. He made sure to keep JJ and Tylie front and center. I can't imagine having to confront my mother with such atrocities. Let alone have her laugh about it. I hope he has a lot of support and love in his life. Working through this will be a life long journey.
How gut-wrenching to hear Colby plead with his mother for answers. The pain in his voice is something nobody should have to bear. So many people would have taken those children and loved them, but Lori would have had to give up their money that supported her & her new husband.

@@honeybee1852If it wasn't about the money, then why was she so upset that Charlie's life insurance beneficiary was changed? Why did she take over Tylee's Social Security to use for herself, when she already had JJ's after killing Charles? It was always about the money & whoever stood in their way to get what they wanted.
Right before Tammy was murdered, Chad increased her life insurance policy. The Zombie thing was just an excuse to use to give them a reason to murder these innocent children/people.
I do believe Lori had some belief in this BS, but it was the money that she needed to live on. She didn't want to get a job & needed to maintain the lifestyle she was accustom to. Neither Lori or Chad had a job, but they moved to Hawaii. One of the most expensive states. The money was definitely a factor.
This is so heartbreaking to listen to! I can't begin to imagine how Colby felt, and still feels, about his own mother's lies and horrible actions.
He will never get over the betrayal. He seems like a fine young man and I really hope for the best for him.

Growing up with a narcissistic mother, I feel so much empathy for Colby. Listening to her gaslight, manipulate and deflect hits a raw spot because these are the types of conversations you have when your parent only cares about themselves.

I had a boss we used to say, “Whoops, she just faked the wrong emotion.” What Lori does in this call is she forgets to fake an appropriate emotion.
Imagine a child of yours in such agony as Colby is. And imagine you had some role in causing it, too, even if you believed yourself innocent of a crime. Compare and contrast.
She pretends to be laughing as if “I know the kids are happy in heaven” deluded: but the real jarring reality here is how Colby’s agony leaves her unperturbed. Or maybe genuinely amused.
There is a kind of person who positively revels in the power to tell the most outrageous lies or say the most unspeakable things and watch as everyone else foams at the mouth and gets bent out of shape about it.
Most of their life they have never been able to show their real self. When they are exposed, even when strategically denying what they did, they are often unable to hide a certain pride in it. Why? because they believe everyone else only lacks the gumption & smarts do what they they have done.
They believe we are all secretly hypocrites and cowards who would wreak havoc too, if only we had as much initiative as them.
They feel a great sense of power at other people’s helplessness and despair. Part of them wants to reveal themselves and gloat openly. She comes very close to doing so, with her poor son. *She is toying with him.*
(But also plainly irritated at times.)

Anyway - apart from when she set Charles up - she always removes herself from the scene of any crime to come. In an important sense, people winked out of existence for her as she looked away. She never had to care about the mess or confront the ohysical suffering; other than with Charles. I wonder if she left the room beforehand or if she wanted to gloat?

It probably makes us feel better to think she's delusional because the kind of monster she would truly have to be to carry out these actions with clear minded malice and self preservation above all is a truly terrifying thought.
This whole conversation just ripped my heart out. I just can’t fathom the pain that Colby is going through. And the gall of Lori , the gall she has to laugh at her son in his pain.
I watched the Netflix doc last night and it was jaw dropping. Colby was fortunate to have had Charles to look up to because he turned out to be an amazing human. God bless those beautiful children who lost their lives to these unhinged souls.

The pain in his voice is palpable. Your own mother murdered your entire family. I don’t know how people can go on that kind of overwhelming terror and grief and rage over the one that was supposed to love and protect you.

His clarity of mind and speech in an interaction with such blazing intensity says so much about Colby, and in a messed up way, says so much about how far his mother has fallen. Nobody has any business being this clear of mind heart and voice. Bless him. It’s so truly admirable, and so so sad.
I watched the Netflix documentary with him & I cried for him, for Tylee & Jj. She doesn’t care about the devastation she has caused she’s only sad she got caught. All I hear her say is me, me, me.
When he says she followed Chad down the rabbit hole..no truer words spoken. The heartache he has suffered is unimaginable.
But it was her choice. There was an interview with someone who Lori tried to recruit to join them, and one of the conditions was that she had to leave behind her children. The woman said no. Which is exactly what Lori should have said. Lori's own choices are what led to this outcome and she deserves the maximum penalty the jurors can give her.
I'm not so sure it's not the other way around. Lori is smarter than Chad without a doubt, and she was already conniving long before she met Chad. She had two husbands that died under suspicious circumstances and was already talking about demons and dark spirits before Chad came along. She is a narcissistic manipulator of the worst kind. Chad is clearly a POS too, but he isn't nearly as sly as she is. She was the one who manipulated a situation so that she could meet Chad. She had him in her crosshairs before she ever met him in person. They're both evil to their cores.

Colby, if you ever read this, I pray that somehow this horible and heavy weight of being deceived by your own Mom gets lighter. It's one thing to be lied to and betrayed, but it's a WHOLE different kind of pain and hurt to have it done to you by your own MOM.
This is a harsh reminder we all need in this case. We all follow this story, but at the end of the day there are real people who are still here and REALLY hurting bc of Chad and Lori and their horrible decisions!

Made me so angry when she laughed during that call with Colby. He was so brave confronting her. He can always say he did the right thing. That's something to be remembered for. Can't imagine what he went through losing his siblings and a kind step dad.
The fact that Lori used her dead daughter's cellphone to trick her own child into believing that she was still alive is haunting.
This woman deserved the death penalty.

This is unbearable to listen to. How do you even begin to process your own mother, murdered and destroyed your siblings? Although this is very real, it starts to sound like a horror movie, because it’s not something your mind can comprehend. For Kay, Larry and Colby to be living this… there are no words, it’s beyond devastating.
It’s also hard to hear, sounds like someone is typing a lot and sniffling or blowing their nose the whole time louder than the voices. But from what I can hear….it’s gut wrenching

Yep I noticed that too. But her actions told us she knew. What mom with missing children leaves the state to go get married? If they were truly missing, she'd fear they'd come home and she wouldn't be there to let them in. She knew they were dead, but could still laugh it up, and dance it up, and get married in Hawaii and buying her wedding ring with Charles' credit card before Tammy was ever even dead.

How does a person turn into this? I feel horrible for Colby hearing his psycho mom laughing at him as he pleads with her for answers about killing his siblings, and she even asks, "Where were you to protect them?" I take solace in the fact that she'll rot away in prison for the rest of her life.
This was a tough phone call, sooo absolutely heartbroken for Colby. Can’t even come close to imagine what pain he has gone through. 💔

I was there and Lori was gazing at Colby and Colby barely looked at her.
Colby has been a lion for his siblings and stepfather. I wish Tylee had been able to reach him and asked for protection. He would have been there so fast.
Lori sent text messages from Tyler’s phone to Colby after she was dead. He thought some of them did not sound like her and tried to call her. When she did not pick up he called his mother who lied about her whereabouts.
Yep and that is probably why she took away Tylee’s phone! She didn’t want her daughter telling anyone about what weird crap was going on in their household. Like any teenager who knows a secret, Tylee probably threw that knowledge in her mother’s face and the mom freaked and decided that they had to make sure that never happened, so they got rid of that possibility by killing her. I do think the mom is out of her mind.

I don’t understand how she’s able to keep holding on to her delusions of grandeur if she’s being treated. She seems to still totally believe it! It just blows my mind.

My heart aches for what those children endured before they died. I have been naive enough to think that they didn’t suffer, but after hearing more about Lori and Chad and their diabolical plot, I’m thinking that it was worse than we all thought. He seems to be the only person who can “get” to her. She reveals a lot here. Like the 100s of Tylee hospital hours. The mentioning that everybody says that when Colby says he’d have taken care of her. I think she just didn’t wanna be a mom anymore. And unlike so many others she had so many actual friends and family that could help her and would have gladly taken those kids. But the narcissism doesn’t allow for that. For some reason these people always choose murder over divorce or failure. Absolutely INSANE. God bless this family.
