Hearing Colby say “she was my half sister, he was my half brother, he was my step dad… it is gut wrenching. His whole family is gone because of those monsters! My prayers are with you Colby.
on top of that she, Lori, makes it sound like they all deserved it, can you imagine how traumatic that would be for a person, they have a h u g e gap left by everyone who has been killed, died or are in jail as a result, he has lost so many and adjusting to that would be unbelievably difficult & then to explain it to your children as they grow up, hmmm just an awful position

I don't know if the judge was aware previously of the state of the kids, but if he didn't, I hope he'll regret removing the death penalty. Also, Lori does not deserve to appeal her case. This case has already cost millions and continues to rack up the dollars. It needs to end the day this trial is complete. The taxpayers will continue to have to pay for Lori until the day her soul goes to hell.

What his Mother has done to this family is horrific. She was given 3 beautiful children, and she killed 2 of them and destroyed another one's life. 😢

That's not a step brother. They adopted him. He was an adopted brother. He would only be a step brother if he was Charles' son prior to marrying Lori. That's how step family works. Charles AND Lori adopted him from Charles' sister.

I can see what the defense is going to try to do here with all this and the opening statement .This won’t be an insanity plea because she isn’t medically insane .Hiwever I bet there’s sone kind of defense that already has gotten someone off of their crimes or this is a first time try be the legal team .they will show she show she was coerced through her religious beliefs and was being directed by (Chad) the cult leader like she was brainwashed ! Like the family members of Charles Manson but I think they all were culpable! Idaho doesn’t allow for an insanity plea, so they have to do the best they can to prove it without making the claim outright.

His decency comes thru proving, in a way, that she WAS a great mom once upon a time. By all reports she was the kind of mom that raiaed happy, intelligent, adventurous and very loving GOOD children. I send him strength.

I guess those types can at least pretend to be a good parent and be one, you know, as part od their whole 'act'...to a degree. I still don’t believe Joe Ryan was an abuser. I think Lori took advantage of 2 little kids and convinced them they were abused.
His sister Annie said in an interview that Joe was physically abusive and she witness it. All the other allegations were never substantiated.
He was abusive to Colby and anyone in his vicinity when he lost his temper . Also Lori allowed and encourage for him to be the disciplinarian to Colby . She knew about the abusive life Joe Ryan had as a child and as a young man. She should have never allowed it , let alone encourage it. But he was investigated by numerous court appointed doctors and child advocates and was found not guilty of any kind of sexual abuse against his or her children . As a matter of fact the child also went to children's doctors and advocates for the court and were found to have been coached. By Lori .

I think he was SA’d but by Alex. Considering he was young and experiencing something extremely traumatic! He might now have a full recollection on the details. And from there Lori ran with the abuser being Joe to ruin his life.
Finally ! Someone states Charles was murdered, thank you Colby. Everyone else just says Charles passed, he didn't just die he was murdered.

He and his wife were estranged and she accused him of rape last year. We'll never know what happened because the charges were dropped but it does raise some red flags about what's going on in that household. I can empathise that he is a product of his upbringing so I hope he doesn't pass on his lifelong trauma to his family and gets some help.
Kind fathers are good to their children's mothers. So...there is that huge elephant in the room.

What a tactless reply given the nature of this case.
Both my parents were completely f*cked up while I was growing up, with cult-like tendencies and behaviors. I was at different times, neglected, abandoned, physically mentally sexually and financially abused by one or the other, or by the people they brought into our lives.
In my thirties I experienced deep depression and anxiety and got professional help. My therapist encouraged me to try to talk to them and the result was very similar to Lori’s gaslighting. It’s deeply hurtful and astonishingly frustrating to try to just get your mother or father to speak the truth and have them pretend *you’re* the crazy person. I hope Colby can move on.

@@lorimiller3341 thank you. I cut off all contact with everyone except some step-relatives and one aunt. It’s helped but you never really get over betrayal by a parent. It really screws with your self-worth, confidence, and happiness, but I’m doing a thousand percent better than I was when I was trapped with them. I can’t even imagine how Colby manages but he did say in the Netflix documentary that being a dad is a huge reason to go on. I’m glad he has that.
Tentin Quarantino. I totally get it. I was raised also by narcissistic, abusive and toxic to the max parents. They didn’t murder anyone but what they did was murder of my soul. Long long story but I ended up going No Contact permanently from my entire family of origin. It takes a lifetime to recover from all of this. I just made sure I never repeated this cycle. If u read Alice Miller books she says ppl have children bc of their own narcissistic personality and hold their children in contempt. I see this everywhere. God bless you. If u have anyone who supports and understands you you are fortunate.

WOW! Lori had Colby on a life insurance policy ! She didn't need to put Tylee and JJ on it because she was getting money for them. Colby really dodged a bullet by moving out!

I really feel for Colby. I too had to testify against my mother. It’s the worst torment a mother could inflict on their child, no matter how old they are. I am haunted by the feeling that I am a bad daughter for doing the right thing. It’s very traumatic.

You are NOT a bad daughter. Your mother was learning accountability for her actions, when you testified to help her do so. Sometimes it’s the child that has to be the responsible person & to do the hardest job. You said what needed to be said & it was weighed appropriately by whomever judged your Mom’s case. Life’s lessons are the hardest ones to learn & I honor you for taking those brave steps to help her to learn her life lessons. There is a profound wisdom in the saying “a little child shall lead them.”

I can't begin to imagine how very difficult this court ordeal must have been for Colby Ryan. Seeing his mother Lori at the defense table must have broken his heart over and over again.
Having to go through what was actually done and see what was done to his baby sister and his baby brother and knowing it was at the hands of the cold evil pos sitting in the room and seeing pieces of the burnt parts that once was his baby sister that must a broken his heart over and over and over again but seeing that evil person at the defense table must be we little justice . doing what she done and has done and put him through and dragging his name through all this I bet he is disgusted and sickened by the presence of her. heart broken by what she has done but not for her .
I cannot imagine his pain and rage. The sense of betrayal. Just another level of the evil she brought. Bless this young man.

Two witnesses have broke my heart this week, him and Letecia Stauch’s daughter. No child should be paying with trauma and pain the evilness of their parents, even if is an adult child, that must be a horrible pain.

He was arrested like a just shy of a year ago ago and it had something to do with child abuse chargers of a year ago but then months later the charges were dropped. Sounds like something to do with a female (a mom) and 2 kids (2 young boys)

I can't figure out what defense could possibly be mounted to counteract Lori's culpability. Melanie Gibb and Colby Ryan's recorded phone calls were enough to seal her guilt.

I sure hope you guys are correct! But I’ll never forget the absolute shock a friend and I had when the verdict was read in the Casey Anthony trial! After that fiasco, I don’t assume anyone will be judged by their crimes (even with overwhelming evidence) you just never know what a jury will decide.

My heart breaks for Colby. As far as so many asking why he was given money from Tylee, it’s not that weird or unusual. They were family and family’s help each other when in need. I don’t see Colby using his sister. He loved his sister and she him. The user in this family was Lori alone. To have to wrap your head around suddenly losing your entire family and the mom you loved is responsible and an evil, lying monster has got to be the most horrific thing for someone to go through. He struggles, but wouldn’t we all. He remains a good and loving person. My prayers will remain with him and hope he has love and support as he processes this trauma that will never go away.
Agree. Tylee was a loving, caring human being and probably wanted to help her brother - particularly when he got married and his wife was expecting. Family helps family. Lori was a monster for killing Tylee and JJ.

Crazy is Chad has a liter of kids and none of them qualified as “dark” just his Insurance covered wife and everyone else’s kid and spouses, Melanie the niece was trying to get hers to be sacrificed. Thank god the father and the police blocked her and Alex from getting them that night she tried to be slick with incomplete proper paperwork.
Colby is impressive and would do well to share the healing that has assisted his journey to the stand. Just the testimony alone is a huge victory in the journey to healing.
Colby has conducted himself with dignity and integrity and I wish him well for the whole of his life x
This mother put two of her children through an imaginable hell and now her only remaining child is living though pure hell how can Colby ever get over this?
He never will, the selfish & evil actions of his mother have led to Colby having to deal with unending and unimaginable trauma, likely survivors guilt, and the realization that the mom he thought was a loving protector was a lie. I hope & pray he gets the help he needs to process such trauma.

Sadly I believe the only reason Lori didn’t have Colby murdered is because he wasn’t receiving Social Security benefits. There was no monetary value for her.

Remember Lori forced Colby to go with Tylee to visit Joe Ryan even though Joe had refused to adopt him and by everyone's account Joe had a short temper and no patience with Colby. Joe had no custody or visitation rights with Colby but Lori insisted. THEN, Lori had Colby claim that Joe sexually abused him which Child Protective Services found to be coerced or false memory testimony and Joe was not charged. Tylee never made this claim against Joe and continued her visitation with Joe. So, Lori used Colby, too.
EDIT:. Also, Alex did time for assault because he tried to kill Joe Ryan using a taser.

Does nobody else wonder why Lori allowed Colby to keep Joe Ryan's last name, given that Joe was his alleged abuser? Does Colby remember the abuse or is that something she told him after the fact? And Colby doesn't even know if he was adopted by Joe? It's just weird.
In an interview a few years ago, he stated that those allegations regarding his own abuse by JR were true. However, also I know that false memories can be imprinted on the young and impressionable. My mom gaslit me pretty bad when I was little and almost had me convinced that I did something I knew I didn’t. I was starting to doubt my own grip on reality.
That's soooo stupid that Lori's Attorney would point out that him and Tylee had Depression, he was suicidal even. And that he had moved to his uncle so young. As causes usually lie in both the family and outside factors this tells me that she was actually probably NOT such a fantastic mother even before she met Chad! (Even if Colby himself thinks so) She moved SOOO much closer to guilt for me through this.

I just watched the Netflix series. Wow, Lori arrogantly thought she could just manipulate her way out of everything. Lied here, lied there, lied to her own son, parents, on and on. She is a horrendously selfish, manipulative person. That she would endorse the killing of Charles, Tammy, and her own two children Tylee and JJ so she could start a new life with that narcissist Chad Daybell... just absolutely sickening. My heart goes out to Colby. I'm so glad he has a loving wife and little family of his own to cherish.

What a chaotic upbringing. Colby can’t even say whether Joe Ryan, whose surname he was given, ever adopted him. His mom gaslit him so badly he doesn’t necessarily know if what he remembers as true, is true.

Tylee's murder was premeditated? Lori and Tylee goes to bank and has Tylee add her mother's name to her bank account or completely puts mom in control of account so after Tylee's death Lori can get access to money without raising suspicion
Just my impression I think it's inherited money she was controlling or funds from a previously dead husband social security that she used and gave small amts to kids from. Untraceable if kept in Tyler's acct. They ran out of money (Chad n Lori)

I’m a Christian and can’t imagine anyone believing what Chad was teaching. Satan is so prevalent and so persuasive in our society today.
