    Dude. All that work and you ended up getting the most benefit from vacuuming the garbage out of the airbox.

    Speaking as a factory trained honda tech, the pair system only operates at closed throttle so it has no effect on acceleration. It only injects air into the exhaust side during closed throttle deceleration for emissions purposes

    I once did a similar mod to a '91 Ducati 851. It had its airbox under the tank like the VFR and also had a removable lid. I purchased a metal perimeter frame from Ferracci that held the filter in place and had "hooks" that the retainer clips would attach to. The engine was now able to get air from the area of the entire airbox instead of just two small snorkels. This simple mod alone gave 5 additional horsepower which was nice but the induction sound was incredible!!! I will be doing the same to my VFR.

    FYI, these mods do work on the 8th gen VFR. I just did them on my 2014. The fueling felt very good on it until I put an aftermarket exhaust on it ( coffman ). With the aftermarket exhaust there was a definite flat spot in the torque curve from about 5,000 rpm's to 6,800 rpm's. Also felt a little jerky at low rpm's. Now it runs better than ever! One note: I didn't delete the snorkel, I trimmed off the part that is inside the box, but left the exterior part of it as is, with it removed I could look right into the air box at the filter, I didn't want to risk water getting in there from rain or when washing the bike.

    Did this to my 2015 today. Couldn't find much info online about if the 8th gen bikes needed this mod or not so I tried it out and omg, it's like a brand new bike. So much smoother at low rpm and shifts smoother too. I love it! I didn't do the snorkel though, I figure it probably helps keep water out and I get caught in the rain sometimes when I go long distance.

    • @mickeymouse4897
      @mickeymouse4897 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Rain water can't get in, pressure washing can, so beware people, also vermin love to make a nests/food stores in air-boxes ... waste of time pulling the snorkel, it does nothing for power or economy on any Honda, probly even all bikes, junk the Flappers system, did nothing anyway only quieten the motors induction down to pass stupid noise test at low rpm's.
      Install chicken coup wire mesh or similar small grid wire mesh over snorkel end & over flapper inlet, it keeps mice out, we rarely see this mice issue here in the UK, but it's been documented on many bikes.
      If you store your bike outside under a cover/lean too or an unsealed shed/garage, you defo need to chicken wire the air intakes, can't do much about mice/rats chewing thru wiring, but they do love to munch on electrical cables for some weird reason.

    I appreciate all the time and trouble you went through to make this video but I try to imagine what those brilliant engineers at Honda would say if they saw your video. Gotta give 'em respect, my friend. They're using those big brains of theirs to create the best motorcycle they can. I own all kinds of bikes from Harleys to Hondas (and yes, BMWs and Ducatis, too) and I've spent thousands on flowed heads, ported and polished heads, larger valves with special 3-angle cuts, tiny little side-thrust bearings on rocker arm shafts, swiss-cheese flywheels, Delorto pumper carbs, dual plug heads, blueprinting, balancing, not to mention carbs, air cleaner mods and exhaust mods and the only thing I succeeded with was making the bike louder, not better! Leave 'em stock and let 'em rock.

    • @HeroRR
      @HeroRR  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You do realize that every single race bike that honda makes doesn't have a flapper, pair, or snorkel. You want to know why? Because the reason why they have them is to pass emissions and noise regulations... that's it. If a honda engineer saw my video then he would agree that what i'm doing is a good thing for the bike. I even talked to my dyno tuner when I got my bike tuned and he recommended that I do that.

    • @jimc793
      @jimc793 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not buyin' it, HeroRR. You said "every single race bike that Honda makes doesn't have a flapper, pair or snorkel" but there are so many differences between a race bike that Honda makes and the street bikes they make that you are comparing apples with kumquats. Leave it stock and let it rock.

      @rocknexus5749 yeah,but only had to remove the snorkel,the last owner(i guess) did the flapper mod and deleted the pair valve.
      To be honest,i think that the "power boost" sits in the stupid snorkel and the flapper. I love those pops on deceleration and i connected the pair valve back on(i noticed a pretty decent difference in fuel consumption with the pair valve connected since i still have the cat. convert on the bike,she drinks less 😅).
      About that power gap that you feel around 4500 rpm,it's mostly gone,bike pulls better down low,but i still feel it every now and then,not big of a deal.
      Overall,i am very pleased with it.
      Go for a ride with it stock,get back home,remove the flapper and the snorkel and go back on the road and you'll see it for yourself 😁.

    5th Gen 1998-2000 Flapper removal "Yes" ... Pair valve system removal "Yes" ... Snorkel removal "No" it'll do nothing but increase induction roar, it'll actually increase fuel consumption a little, engines don't like warm air, cold air snorkel inlet is there for a reason, all engines run better on cold air.
    Late 5th Gen 2000-2001 & all 6th Gen variants (V-tech) motor, won't benefit from "Pair system removal" unless you flash the ECU with a modified map, fit an after market exhaust or slip on can & you'll that re-mapping with dyno runs, or you'l get turn a great bike into a jerko-matic badly.
    Personally i've found the early 5th Gen to be far more responsive to "Flapper removal" & exhaust changes, they do run better with the decibel killer removed & noticeably smoother with starter valves set correctly.
    Personally, I don't like the V-tech motor WTF were Honda thinking? massive re-engineering for little to no gain over the glorious 5th Gen gear driven motor, cost saving exercise is my guess, the 5th Gen motor was over engineered from the start, RC45 derived motor, yes "RC45" crankcases were used too, less exotic materials used on internal motor components, but basically a detuned RC45 motor is what we got... (Thankyou mother Honda).

      first thing was the pair valve, I disconnected it and wow, the bike became sooo smooth. cornering and slow speed is now much easier.
      next was the flapper, not so much difference, but it pulls smoothly up till vtec and the kick is not so abrupt anymore.
      last came the snorkel, I think its mostly snarl and growl that was raised a bit, but I like it. not super noisy, just a bit more low end to it 😊

    I did all 3 mods. But reverted PAIR mod, here is my experience with all mods.
    First day - I did Snorkel and Flapper mods, VFR was louder than before and smoother.
    Second day - I did PAIR valve mod also, VFR became less louder than first day, still same smoothness as first day. But I got cold start issue, felt like engine was not getting enough fuel and air when cold. Ran fine after warm-up. Then while doing r&d over PAIR valve, I watched this video th-cam.com/video/_xMykbzJWiQ/w-d-xo.html. Video says PAIR valve is connected with exhaust, but it's connected with all cylinders also, and helps in exhaust stroke in expelling spent air-fuel mixture through the exhaust valve. And PAIR valve is involved in lower RPMs.
    Third day - I reconnected PAIR valve system, VFR became louder as first day. As per me I liked snorkel and flapper mod. As bike feels more louder hence feels more powerful and enjoyable.

Unless you're competitively racing the bike, keep it stock and only use OEM. I say this with 45+ years motorcycling experience, both street and racing.

      If Honda's engineers didn't have to abide by noise regulations then there would be no flapper, 100%. There's a reason why their GP bikes don't have PAIR systems or snorkels..

    It feels like I never have to adjust the chain on mine. Should the bottom of the chain touch the rubber runner as when I tightened up it felt too tight. Its hard to gauge the 1 inch mark as the chain touches the runner. Any advice would be great. Thanks

    @HeroRR. Hello. In process of buying a 2002 VFR and the jerky throttle was one of the things that put me off the first (and only) one i looked at so far. Still getting one tho but that`s to be expected and this is the fix? Great. Other was "ticking"/rattling when cold. I assumed it was the valves as it`s approaching 30.000 miles. To be expected or walk away? Or not to worry but expect a valve adjustment summer 2020?

    Hey man! Thanks for doing these vids, they're hella helpful! :)
    Quick question: When lifting up the tank, where exactly is the pivot-point? Is it okay if the tank is still almost full, or could the pivot-point be too weak to hold the weight?
    Thanks in advance, and ride safe, man!

      Usually you want it as close to empty, even if you go to a service. Its much easier to work with it that way. Otherwise drain it a bit.

    PAIR adds clean air at complete closed throttle to burn hydrocarbons that aren't being consumed through active open throttle temperatures. PAIR has nothing to do with active drive performance. Removing snorkel and disabling flapper merely robs you of mid-range torque by reducing air pressure in the air intake and flattens out (diminishes) the power curve. You have a more linear power but you are effectively reducing power to make it less responsive. I've never met anyone who wanted less power and less responsiveness in a bike like this. Trust Honda engineers who have been building this thing for DECADES, not internet idealogues.

      If it removes the jerkyness at low revs then im willing to lose some torque. It makes driving in cities really awful and I happen to live in one. If I cant find a way to fix it, the bike isnt worth having to me and im gonna sell it.

      ....and wrong. reduces the vtec transition, removes a flat spot after VTEC kicks in. PC5 results showed increased power after mods. With a custom tune..much more power and better power curve. Add K&N filter and gutted exhasut and good to go. 1st gen & 6th gen owner-

      Turned off PAIR on my Ninja 650 and i think there was a slight improvement in torque and she was a little more settled around idle (I've gotta have a clean throttle response at low revs)..slight improvement, easy to turnoff, no noticable change in fuel consumption. I do question the motivation for PAIRS more for immisions than rider satisfaction..wouldnt be surprised if other makes/models fair better but onky a little i'd say.

    • @ACTIONDANhero
      @ACTIONDANhero 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah 42max, not whats best. If you wanna push the courners hard u need low pressure 28f 35r. Its low tyre pressure in racing not high. High only helps excelleration tiny bit but greatly reduces tyre/road contact so cant courner as fast or break as short
