    This has become one of my favorite channels.
    I'm Central Texas German from way back in the early 1800's.
    My German great great grandmother was in Georgia in the 1700s.
    I got to visit Germany back in the early 80's and loved it.
    They liked me too because I had manners and didn't demand things and said please and thank you.

    Wow!! “Awesome Sandwiches’” The bread is great in Germany and all over Europe. The bratwurst sandwich is my favorite and the German “burger” precursor of our American burgers. My wife is from Lithuania and she was watching as well. She said I don’t believe they eat raw meat and I told her that in many countries all over Europe they also eat raw meat or steak tartar. It is like sushi once you eat it you love it.

      That’s true. And you are right, there are raw meat dishes in Germany! Both beef and pork! Thanks for watching to both of you ☺️

      Steak Tatar (from the Tartars, who tenderized the meat under the saddle) Carpaccio, Mett - it is up to the butcher, the chef and the farmer
      i love it, but not a sushi fan

    My favorite was the pork roast and schnitzel sandwiches. I have bratwurst and rolls in many cities, all different and delicious. I also had the smoked herring and smoked eel sandwiches. I have had smaller sandwiches of various egg salad and meat pate. All with vegetables. Great cuisine.

    Hi Marta: What a lovely video!!! It made me very homesick for North Germany. Of course, I love all of the meat based sandwiches but I mainly want to comment on the ones made with fish. First of all, I was reminded that the "broetchen" is one of the most perfect types of bread ever produced. Exactly the right size for a portion - I have to go to Lidl in London to buy them. While living in Northern Germany I was very surprised to see the fish broetchen on offer. I knew nothing about herring until I was there. Then I bought a herring broetchen and was convinced at the beauty of such a thing. I love all types of fish broetchen though I have not experienced all that you mentioned. However I have eaten quite a few. Sometimes when I travel by train to Germany I usually have to change in Koeln - so I go immediately to the "Nordsee" (?) kiosk and buy a fish broetchen as a welcome present to myself. Thanks for reminding me about those times and such lovely food""" D

    My tongue is tingling thinking about all those Herrings! My Parents used to buy a wooden keg of Dutch herring in a brine, then prepare and pickel them. Long ago I had pickeled hering in sour cream in Koln(?). Later on a number of business trips to the Netherlands and Denmark, herring in many ways, including "grreen" in little strips, with onions. And then there was salmon with onions and capers! Wow! We have often had a jar of herring chunks, pickeled in a wine sauce, around New Years. But I never met pickled herring deep fried in a batter! Sounds interesting!

    I’m from northern Germany but immigrated to Australia when I was 6 years old. I remember loving the smoked eel as a child and rollmops from the fish van. Of course being a child my favourites were marzipan, liverwurst and lard sandwiches. My mum made the lard with apple, onion and salt sprinkled on top. Never eaten those foods here in Australia. We can get Latvian Liverwurst here and I still love it but in my 60’s now not a very healthy option anymore.

    In South Africa and Namibia we have a version of the mett brötchen that is just put on flavour steroids called the Rohack brötchen. Google it. It's life changing.
    Not sure if the Rohack brötchen was originally a German sandwich or just an adaptation by the Germans that settled here.
    It's pretty much a mett brötchen with extra onion, extra pepper, A LOT extra pickled cucumber and a raw egg yolk. The egg yolk adds a creamy texture to the meat.
    Also try eating slices of steak by dipping it in raw egg yolk just before you put it in your mouth. Sounds gross, but just try it at least once.

    @wmf831 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    A bit odd for me as a German seeing the street food beeing described as Sandwiches, when we actually have Sandwiches in Germany.
    I would not consider any of these a Sandwich. But it is great streetfood!

    • @cooking-the-world

      How would you translate it then? German bread rolls?

    • @wmf831
      @wmf831 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cooking-the-world I guess I would just call it streetfood. It's not usually something you do at home. I mean you wouldn't put your Bratwurst in a roll at home, right? At least I don't think people do that, while in the streets you need the roll to hold it, which is mostly true for all of these foods.
      I think Sandwich might be a bit confusing as this is usually defined as two flat slices of bread filled with anything like sliced meats, tuna, cheeses, vegetables ...
      By the way, very nice touch on the "Schaumkuss im Brötchen". Very reminiscent of the 70's I think. Made me smile.

    sry to say but its not called "Matschbrötchen" - its a "Negerkussbrötchen", or more politically correct a "Schokokussbrötchen"
    i prefer the "Mettbrötchen" or a nice "Spießbraten-brötchen" tho 🤤
    danke für das schöne Video

    In Germany, at the train station, I bought what looked a delicious turkey sandwich.
    It had fruit jam on it.
    Disgusting.
    Worse for them, my 2 cow orkers bought the same thing.

      @@cooking-the-world Yes, I've personally enjoyed some. I brought back a loaf of what I think was called peasant bread from Magdeburg where my great-grandfather on my mother's side came from. I was able to share it with my mother and aunt in the 1990's ... his granddaughters.
