    After watching you explain the process I think I'll reattach the sway bar and there arms etc. seen you left the bolts on, great safety tip. Been dreading this for a week . I think I'll tackle it cause I miss my 85 scottsdale, been driving moms mini van. Thanks for the tips and dipping into a touchy repair. Them springs I've heard about them being danger . Great video.

    Support truck under engine cradle.. take off caliper, remove bj pins.. clean the threads, loosen about one turn only,upper and lower bj nut. Then wack upper and lower, they will pop apart easily with the spring tension on them if you only loosen each nut a turn or so.. then loosen upper and lower nut till you run out of threads,THEN put a jack under the lower arm and rise it up a lil then take off the nuts. And its apart. A pure joy to do and easyist vehicle in the world to work on. The tension from the spring is what you use to pop the fit loose. Soo satisfying

      Thanks for this great tip. I've got upper & lower ball joints to do on my "78 Toyota Pickup, and it has front coil springs like this. From "79 onwards they went to torsion bars that are easier to deal with on this repair. I could only find Toyota Pickup videos on ball joints for those later years, so I was developing a false sense of security about doing the job.
      Thanks for saving me from getting cut in half by a flying coil spring sir. 👍

    The 1974-76 service manual says 45 ft/lbs for those upper bolts that replace the rivets. Good call to up the torque on those.

    Great video. Done a hundred front ends, every car is a little different.
    GM made these squares pretty easy to work on. Don't even have to dust off the spring compressors...
    Thanks for the advice and taking the time to do rhe video!

    Just how I’ve been doing for the past 25 years. They do make different sizes of forks as well as forks to use on an air hammer that I’ve purchased over time that might help you the next time around.

    Hey thanks for sharing
    Ps a trick I do is straighten cutter pin a bit then stick a punch or prob in eye of cutter pin and tap it with a hammer then they come right out small vise grips on eye then tap vise grip works too

    Entire front end needs to be off the ground. Unload suspension to check ball joints.

    • @SquarebodyStuff
      @SquarebodyStuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If you unload the suspension you get it out of it's normal operating range and make the ball joints tighter at that angle. When I used to do state vehicle inspections lifting one side at a time was required for that very reason.
