Rampage: The Bellator Years

  • In 2013 Bellator MMA paid big bucks to make Quinton "Rampage" Jackson the face of their promotion, only to end up with a bloated, unmotivated shadow of his former self.

Combine that with being an extremely technical boxer with great grappling made him the best all-around LHW of that era. He kinda got a bit one-dimensional following his "loss" to Griffin though. I say "loss" because there's no effin way Forrest won that fight, it was at worst a draw if not an outright win for Rampage, (possibly the worst decision in UFC history imo).

    Rampage did a lot in his career, he had some of the most exciting fights and memorable in fight moments in the history of the sport. The slams, the powerbombs , the wars, the capturing of the UFC title and then the unification bout with Dan Henderson. But for me post 2007 that was when I noticed the motivation starting to fade and maybe because past that point he had done everything he needed to.

    One of the greatest fighters of all time, and though he was known mostly for his slams, he actually was a far more skilled and devastating as a striker. definitely one of the top 10 - maybe even top 5 strikers in LHW history. In his prime his KO power rivalled the likes of prime Anthony Johnson and Franci Nganu. Sadly starting after his bs loss of the belt to Forrest, he became very one dimensional, where as prior to that he had great leg kicks and devastating knees. Alot of UFC fans are unaware of that fact, because they only really got to see the tail end of his prime and only saw a little bit of that well-rounded stand-p with Hendo. Sometime after that he transform into a guy just looking to get that KO punch. I also have to disagree with the assertion that his Bellator days were all terrible though. He looked pretty darn good against both M'Pumbu and King Mo. I mean - not that either were better than the likes of Matt Hamill or Ryan Bader, (though i'd argue not any worse than them), so it's not like Jackson was facing the caliber of opponents that he faced when he was in his prime from 2003 to 2009. Now I do think though, that after that win over King Mo, he did most certainly go down hill pretty far after that. He was after all north of 36 at that point, so it's not all that surprising

    That last fight its convincingly obvious to assume he just showed up just wanting to pick up that paycheck since he knew it was his last fight on contract and didn't give a crap about his weight or condition. What a bum end

    I would love to see Rampage in BKFC, as a big Rampage fan I dont want his last fight being flatlined by Fedor. Rampage wouldnt have to worry about getting out grappled, and I know Rampage still got bricks in his hands, would be a great way to send a legend.

    • @MrCris2021
      @MrCris2021 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If he would at least go down to 205 again maybe we could see him vs Rashad Evans. Not saying that fight would be good or anything, both guys are way past their prime. But to be honest, at this point in his career I see him losing more fights than winning. Maybe call it a career and thats it. Dont try to go out on a winning fight like BJ penn tried or Cerrone is trying now.

      @@MrCris2021 I just think it would be more fun seeing Rampage throwing big power shots in Bare knuckle, it would be great to see him retire on a high like Chris Leben. I dont think Leben wanted this last memory of his MMA career being quitting on the stool againest Hall, it was a good send off.
