I've heard it opined (on other RV/camping sites) that an electric blanket is more efficient and draws fewer amp hours. Puts the heat right on you and doesn't try to heat the whole cubic footage of the camper van.

Man you’re spot on about finding something that makes you feel better or recharge your batteries. I did that today and it was amazing how it kick started me out of being down. Sometimes you have to force yourselves to do something and it makes all the difference mav!
Hi! I am 65 and disabled so I will not ever be able to do this for myself but I enjoy watching you and living vicariously through your videos! I very much enjoy your style and personality! I will keep watching!
Mav, you can just find a heater that draws fewer watts. A smaller heater may only draw 700 or so. It won't produce as much heat but that might be ok for your situation. 1500w is the highest allowed in the US for any household appliance designed to do nothing but put off heat so that is why you find so many that top out there, it just may be overkill for your truckbed's small cubic area.
I have a similar heater, there is a lower setting he could use that will essentially halve the output. But it isn't that warm. Anything electric that produces the heat he would need in that camper shell won't likely be warm enough at 700 watts.
Battery powered generators are not sustainable for heavy loads such as electric heaters. Purchase a EU2200i Honda gasoline powered generator and stay toasty warm all night on a single gallon of fossil fuel.
I feel ya about prioritizing, home ownership and seasons. Camping always makes me feel better and dealing with the cold makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something in a season where outdoor life is more limited and lack of sunlight is depressing.
I agree about liking seasons. When I was younger I wanted nothing more than to live in someplace warm year-round. As a grew older, I really started to appreciate the seasons. Even with SAD (seasonal affect disorder) plaguing a majority of us that live in the Midwest, there is something so refreshing when Spring comes...it just means so much more having gone through Winter. Plus, the scenery throughout all the seasons is so unique and ever changing. I wouldn't have it any other way. Although, I do still appreciate a warm Spring Break vacation to break up the Winter doldrums. Lol
mav do whatever you need to, dont stress yourself and take breaks if you need them and im sure anybody who reads this would agree , so take some time and get your things together we will be here

Mav I started watching your videos I guess about a month or so now, actually first came across you via the Kenzie you made with Hannah. So I am 51, pretty big traveler and have had some great life experiences, but watching you, you figured out something massively important and cool. Life is about experiences, not the latest iPhone or getting a big new TV etc. What stays with you are your experiences and people you meet along your way. Kudos for making this a paying gig and entertaining the masses with your videos. You are on par with Hannah, Bald and Bankrupt, Zac Fowler, Jake and Nicole, and other channels that have my attention. Thanks for being a cool distraction!
I just want to let you know mav that your videos are really soothing and relaxing, it's really enjoying watching them and the videos are really entertaining, thank you for providing such great content for me and many others, and don't forget, stay trucking.
I appreciate your videos so much! Im a Minnesotan, as well, who recently moved to the South. The comfort of winter is unmatched. Soup looks incredible too, awesome choice!
As a first time home owner this summer, I feel you man. I feel like ripping out the middle bench of my Caravan, flattening the back row, stuffing a mattress and a sleeping bag in the back and just heading out to the lake. I need to decompress. There's just so much to deal with, logistically, when it comes to home ownership. Between dealing with the notary, the broker, the realtor, and the candlestick maker, it's exhausting
@@Semystic sorry as a 60 year old man sounds like a bit of whining if you ask me. Pretty indicative of this generation. The opportunity for home ownership and then complaining. A buyers agent basically takes everything off your plate and you dont even have to pay them. If your going to put yourself out there like that plan to get roasted. Same thing would happen to you if you were out in a bar drinking and make a comment like that.
Thanks for taking us along! I totally get it! Stopped in Walmart lot for the night last Spring...they had little 250 watt heaters on sale for $2.00. Actually works pretty good...but not at -4°. I was a Montana backpacker / winter camper at about your age. My coldest was -20°F in the Beartooth Mountains....in a tent. Brrrr....🤣
They do have heaters that are 500 watts. There is even one with a hand warmer. Those might work better. Wal-Mart or Amazon has them. Congratulations on the house too.
It's the same either way. Either the smaller heater won't hit the target temp at all, or if it does, it'll run twice as often as a 1kw for the same heat. In the end, the choice is *colder* or more battery.
Love watching this stuff I've been doing it for over 40 years. I would visit my grandmother in Georgia and sleep in the back of my truck instead of the house. Always had my best peace of mind doing that. Keep up the good work
Just got my Jackery 240 to charge my cameras, phone, and other small electronics when camping or during power outages. I love mine so far, less than 5% battery used to charge three items!!
Get yourself a heated milwaukee jacket and heated socks pants etc and see how well that works. Fellow Minnesota guy I work outside all year and those heated jackets are life savers the wife myself and oldest daughter are heading up to Duluth next week for the wife's birthday! Going to Bentleyville! Happy home renovations mav!
Space heaters generally have 2 or 3 settings. You need to put it on the lowest heating setting to draw the least amount of power.. produces less heat but also way less power. You can look for a low power 200--400W space heater
I barely found your channel and have binge watched your content and i just wanted to say that your content inspires me to have adventures like you with my friends. KEEP ON TRUKIN
Hope I wasn’t the only one that got startled when Mav turned on that burner in front of the cam. Swore my mind tricked me into thinking I was gonna get burned 😂
Mav you are growing so damn fast and getting so many damn views. The crazy thing is that you stayed yourself to get here. No screaming at the camera and nothing ridiculous. I seriously congratulate you, keep going this is only the beginning. :)
Mav, that's pretty cold and you could be getting into dangerous conditions at -3*, especially without reliable heat. Please be careful and don't put yourself into those situations! We care about you and don't want anything bad to happen to you. You need to find a reliable heat source and a backup when you expose yourself to temps below 0*. How about getting some hand and feet warmer packets for a backup when you are getting to cold? I pray that the Lord's angels will protect you in all your ways as you keep on truckin! Blessings to you and your family!
Great channel buddy. I have a Jackery 1000. I use a Lasco space heater My Heat. It draws less than 200 watts. I connect a cheap light timer to it. I have it turn off and on all night every 30 mins. Easily goes all night. Heated blanket connected to the DC port of the Jackery will go multiple night's with continuous use, no timer. Cheers!
It’s really cool to see a young person enjoying real adventures! Not just video games and tic toc. I hope you realize how your videos inspire the young and old. Well done!
You have been putting in so much grind and content these past few weeks Mav. Thankyou and happy Christmas to you and your family. Keep safe. Love from the UK
Thank you for sharing your life. We love what you do. Very few of us are capable of doing what you do, but we can all appreciate what you do. Your relaxed vibe belies your rugged midwestern toughness. Ever have to worry about hungry animals wanting to eat your food 🍱 ???
Bruh. I got up last winter at 5am to snow machine 8 miles across Lake Louise in AK to catch lake trout at -35°F, and ice camped twice at -10....and watching you choose to cook outside at -3 had me freezing my ass off. Good stuff!
What’s up Mav! First of all, I absolutely love watching your videos :) One thing I would recommend next time your stuck in the cold would be to use one of those heat lambs people often have for their reptile enclosures. There much more efficient than space heaters and they work pretty well. I used one the last time I went camping and it had no problem keeping me warm in my tent. Keep up the great work 💪
I love watching you cook. I have definitely learned some things from watching your videos. Such a lovely way to watch someone cooking with the beautiful snow falling. Keep it up!
buy 3 things: Hairdryer Dimmer Dial for lights with a power rating of 400 watts Wall power outlet Wire the dimmer dial in series to the power outlet which allows you to control the resistance of any device. I use this in conjuction with a Hair dryer to run them around 80-100 watts It's also safer in most cases since even the cheapest hairdryer needs to have the essential basic safety functions. I've run some for months at a time up to around 6 months with even the cheapest of hair dryers. When they're smothered and overheat, automatically turn off If you attached a tube to the intake and output of the hairdryer that had holes perforated through it, then the hair dryer would always have a safe way to breath while also give you a nice cylinder object that blasts warm air out its holes to snuggle up next to. For a space of this size, if you properly insulated your truck by insulating not only the inside, but the outside would be most important. Seperate the metal outside from the air by adding an inch or two thick worth of insulation material with a light wooden cap to hold it all together and mask it all underneath You'll need around 400 watts to keep a space like this warm, where you yourself should acount for 100-200 of that already with your own body heat. Its a matter of retaining that heat, while also using a micro dehumidifier combined with a small cracked window to maintain 20-30% Humidity. The micro dehumidifier can also double as a water collector, it will collect moisture in the air using electricity for you to drink. Either your breath can be collected, or snow can be boiled, either way, you'll always be able to find and create water anywhere so long as you have power. So create many different battery banks, with many different power sources, each with their own redundancy and simple fixes when failures inevitably occur
Don't worry about all the new responsibilities. You will get used to it soon enough. Just do one thing at a time. You did such a great job organizing your truck. House is much bigger so there's more room to organize things. If you make a video about organizing your house I'm sure you will get all kinds of ideas from people watching. Some of them might even be good ideas. 😉😂
I mentioned before a Chinese diesel heater but even that takes 120 volts for the fans. You could easily fit a mini cubic wood stove in there and fuhgeddaboutit. Keep on truckin.
Hey Mav, I made the soup for my Mom and I the young man sent you. Didn't use yogurt though. If was great. Thank you for making it. Love watching you. Keep on trucking. Be safe!
Come on mav when we are from way up north we put our beer in coolers . To stop it from freezing . Same goes for food . Try to stop it from freezing. Run a 12v plug to the back with Proper amp rating wire and charge your box off your truck battery. Keep a jump box with ya for when truck Battery dies also . I live to the east of the finger lakes and south from Lake Ontario. We get lake affect snow from the moisture you saw rising from the lake

Here is a recipe for cold weather. If this doesn’t make your mouth water in anticipation on those cool Fall or Winter days nothing will. I use salmon mostly, but you can substitute most any type of fish. · ½ stick butter · ¼ cup flour · ½ cup chopped onion · 6 slices bacon, diced · ½ cup diced celery · 1½ teaspoons garlic powder not garlic salt · 1 teaspoon Old Bay Seasoning · 1 ½ cup diced potatoes · ½ bag baby carrots, cut bite size · 1 cup chicken broth · 1 cup grated parmesan cheese · 1 teaspoon salt · 1 teaspoon ground black pepper · 1 teaspoon parsley · 2 bay leaves · ½ teaspoon thyme · ½ teaspoon dried dill weed · 2 6” salmon fillets, cubed 1” · 1 qt. milk · 1 (15 ounce) can creamed corn · 1 teaspoon cornstarch · 1 12 oz. pkg. Cream cheese 1. Sauté bacon, then add butter, onion, broth, celery, carrots, and garlic powder & cook until all is tender. Stir in potatoes, old bay seasoning, parsley, bay leaves, salt, pepper, and dill. 2. Bring to a boil, and reduce heat. Cover, and simmer 20 minutes or until potatoes are tender. 3. Stir in salmon, milk, creamed corn, flour, cornstarch, and cream cheese. Cook on medium, stirring frequently until heated through and cream cheese is melted. 4. Serve steaming hot with oyster crackers. Please let me know how you like it. It’s one of my favorites.

Hey Mav, big fan! I've been working on trying to stay warm during the cold months, and stumbled on portable diesel heaters. Have you ever tried one? Keep up the good work!
You may be able to use a 110V electric blanket. Probably draws about 50 watt hours. Full charge Jackery should you through the night. Put an auxiliary heater in the pickup bed? Maybe find one from someone dismantling a bus? Run the truck heater on immediately before sleep. You really need to INSULATE the WINDOWS! And camper ceiling! Even 1 inch of foam with foil side to inside will make a huge improvement. Harbor freight cheap packing blanket, 2 pieces per window, cut to size, with silver bubble pack between. Spray glue together like a sandwich. (Cut 1 inch larger than the window), mount with velcro. Long term, get a Wabasto style 5k btu heater, and camper battery. I don't know that your jackery can run the heater all night. TIP: hot water bladder/bottles in the sleep sack will help you a lot. Also, pee before you sleep. You don't want to use body energy to keep the bladder warm. And eat right before bed. Body burning carbs and protien will keep you warm.
The Jackery 1500 actually has 1534 watt hours of capacity, not amp hours, so a 1400 watt heater will only last a bit over an hour. You can get a smaller heater, or one with a low setting, but even a 600 watt heater would only last two and a half hours. There's no such thing as efficiency with an electric heater: electricity is converted into heat with 100% efficiency in any electric heater. It's easy to understand why: inefficient products waste electricity as heat, which is kind of the point of an electric heater in the first place.
@@mohammadrayyan7851 The only way around the problem is to cheat with a heat pump. It lets you get more heating than input power because it's not turning electricity into thermal energy, but instead just moving the thermal energy from one place to another. But portable heat pumps aren't really meant for camping, and heat pumps tend not to work all that well in extremely low temperatures.
You can also get bigger jackery or two of them, but I think the best thing to do is get a small generator. They can generate 2000 watts for 8 hours before refilling with gas. The advantage of an electric heater is they are cheap, flexible, and there's no carbon monoxide created so its good for a small place like a minivan. I think he should have turned off the heater when he was in his sleeping bag. Many campers I see on utube use a small diesel heater, but then that adds complexity buying diesal, having an exhaust and managing the system.
Hey from Sydney! Question : ever thought of investing in a foldable dinner tray to help when you eat? For less spillage and comfort If you’ve never been, i thinn you’d like the Australian terrain for adventurous camping :)

@@dcelectric6689 can those generators be exposed to snow and rain?

Lol

I hope everyone can appreciate how hard Mav grinds to give us consistent banger uploads!!
I just want to let you know mav that your videos are really soothing and relaxing, it's really enjoying watching them and the videos are really entertaining, thank you for providing such great content for me and many others, and don't forget, stay trucking.

Blah blah...grow up. Its called becoming an adult. Wife and kids will probably send you off to outer space if you don't have them already.
@@sad754yt It helps if you don't act like a child with a comment like that. Man needs support and encouragement, not stupid remarks.
@@Semystic sorry as a 60 year old man sounds like a bit of whining if you ask me. Pretty indicative of this generation. The opportunity for home ownership and then complaining. Same thing would happen to you if you were out in a bar drinking and make a comment like that.

Brrrr....🤣
I love watching your videos at night before going to sleep under the covers with multiple blankets during the winter it’s such a vibe
Minnesota makes you appreciate warm well made clothing for sure. Stay safe. Enjoyed the video.
My favorite part of his videos is the food one when he cooks for himself. Keep it up we all love your videos

I would visit my grandmother in Georgia and sleep in the back of my truck instead of the house. Always had my best peace of mind doing that.

I'd love to see some more ice-fishing videos! Also, it would be cool to see how a heating blanket would perform with the Jackery!
I'm not happy about all these people creating channels copying what Mav does..... I'm staying loyal to my boi. Keep on trucking big dog 💪🏻
what he's doing is not really unique or imaginative, so copy or not it's not surprising that someone else has the same idea.
I adore the winter episodes, just because of the positive and cozy atmosphere. Great job on the video, keep up the uploads!
You can look for a low power 200--400W space heater
yeah i have a miniature space heater on my desk that only uses 400 watts.
I barely found your channel and have binge watched your content and i just wanted to say that your content inspires me to have adventures like you with my friends. KEEP ON TRUKIN

Mav, that's pretty cold and you could be getting into dangerous conditions at -3*, especially without reliable heat. Please be careful and don't put yourself into those situations! Cheers!

Keep it up!
I agree
I completely agree with you Mav. I'm from Chicago & ppl think I'm nuts for loving the frigid winters & insanely hot summers, but I LOVE IT ALL.
buy 3 things:
Hairdryer
Dimmer Dial for lights with a power rating of 400 watts
Wall power outlet
Wire the dimmer dial in series to the power outlet which allows you to control the resistance of any device.
I use this in conjuction with a Hair dryer to run them around 80-100 watts
It's also safer in most cases since even the cheapest hairdryer needs to have the essential basic safety functions.
I've run some for months at a time up to around 6 months with even the cheapest of hair dryers.
When they're smothered and overheat, automatically turn off
If you attached a tube to the intake and output of the hairdryer that had holes perforated through it, then the hair dryer would always have a safe way to breath while also give you a nice cylinder object that blasts warm air out its holes to snuggle up next to.
For a space of this size, if you properly insulated your truck by insulating not only the inside, but the outside would be most important.
Seperate the metal outside from the air by adding an inch or two thick worth of insulation material with a light wooden cap to hold it all together and mask it all underneath
You'll need around 400 watts to keep a space like this warm, where you yourself should acount for 100-200 of that already with your own body heat.

Here is a recipe for cold weather.
If this doesn’t make your mouth water in anticipation on those cool Fall or Winter days nothing will. I use salmon mostly, but you can substitute most any type of fish.
· ½ stick butter
· ¼ cup flour
· ½ cup chopped onion
· 6 slices bacon, diced
· ½ cup diced celery
· 1½ teaspoons garlic powder not garlic salt
· 1 teaspoon Old Bay Seasoning
· 1 ½ cup diced potatoes
· ½ bag baby carrots, cut bite size
· 1 cup chicken broth
· 1 cup grated parmesan cheese
· 1 teaspoon salt
· 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
· 1 teaspoon parsley
· 2 bay leaves
· ½ teaspoon thyme
· ½ teaspoon dried dill weed
· 2 6” salmon fillets, cubed 1”
· 1 qt. milk
· 1 (15 ounce) can creamed corn
· 1 teaspoon cornstarch
· 1 12 oz. pkg. Cream cheese

Putting yourself in a different place physically changes your perspective. Always a good idea.
So sweet Mav that you used Britton's grandma's recipe. She is smiling down on you right now!
How about the wire's internal resistance 🙃
Jk brother, I understand that it's negligible
For less spillage and comfort
If you’ve never been, i thinn you’d like the Australian terrain for adventurous camping :)
