Anxiety in the Morning? Morning Cortisol Awakening Response
Cortisol Awakening Response(CAR) is an increase of approximately 50%, occurring within 20-30 minutes of waking up.
CAR is a hypothalamic---suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN)---hippocampus based mechanism.
    Basically, a brain-based mechanism.
You cannot reestablish the CAR with adrenal glandular supplements.
How to re-establish the Cortisol Awakening Response.
    1. Sunrise stimulation with an alarm clock light that gradually changes in color and brightness for red/pink to bright yellow.
    2. High-intensity exercise within the first 10 minutes upon awakening. Approximately, 3-5 minutes.
    3. Glycyrrhiza within the first 10 minutes upon waking up. Comes in a cream or liquid extract.
    4. Don’t eat sugary foods in the mornings. Stick with fats and protein.
Glycyrhiza comes form licorice root and increases the ½ life cortisol and increases aldosterone levels.
    5. Planning the day before and writing things down.
    6. Meditation and deep belly breathing
    7. Proper amount of quality sleep
    8. Avoid caffeine and alcohol

Exactly how I feel recently. It sucks to say the least. Mornings are such a battle and it’s so frustrating. I think it’s mostly the seasonal changes for me (record long winter and suddenly spring is here with tons more sun) and the day light savings shift definitely didn’t help. It’s like I’m suddenly getting way more energy in the morning but my brain just doesn’t know what to do with it so I go straight into almost panic attack level anxiety.
      Hope you overcome it soon.

It’s so frustrating how all the things that you apparently need to do to overcome the condition are those things that feel most impossible to do because of the condition.
No hunger whatsoever? Eat. Crave sugar and caffeine? None of that for you. Anxiety to the level that you want to curl in the fetal position? Blast your eyes with sunlight and start knocking out push-ups.
Why does our brain and body seemingly intuitively drive us to avoid doing the things that are supposed to help us?

Firstly, we just have to push through. It is not going to be easy.
Im doing a quick morning walk, so I can burp and get all the gas out. Then have a light meal like a banana or avocado and ease myself into the day. I know it sounds easy. Its not.

Oh my God‼️ I’m a survivor of Hashimoto Thyroiditis, 36 years undiagnosed, 21 years figuring it out all alone and finally 2 1/2years taking immunosuppressants under an amazing rheumatologist’s supervision and supplements that made me feel like I did before my symptoms started in 1972. I’m also post menopausal and when I was able to isolate my morning anxiety from the many Hashimoto symptoms I actually did everything you recommend including eating avocados along with protein for breakfast. Eureka, along with a morning meditation before I get out of bed I am eliminating that cortisol anxiety‼️. I recently added a 4 to 5 minute Tai Chi beginner workout and I am able to get up before 8 am and start my day. Years of muscle fatigue have made it impossible to tackling anything more taxing. Thank you for identifying a very debilitating roadblock that I didn’t even know was a thing. Your probably in an anxiety loop of worry. If you go down worrying about your problems your likely to begin waking up to them as well. It’s a nasty feeling I’m all too familiar with. Breaking the cycle of active worrying really helped. I literally had to force myself to focus on positive things before falling asleep. A nightly five minute gratitude practice followed by a 15 minute guided meditation really helped! Try it out. You’ve got nothing to lose. Also getting a good dose (5 to 10 minutes) of sunshine shortly after awakening really helps with our circadian rhythms. I like doing it while sitting or walking on grass for the added benefit of grounding. Something we all need more of as well.

It’s clearly an anxiety / stress response imo. There’s a slew of them. Dealing with the worry the cancer diagnosis brought on will really help because thats probably what triggered it. Although this is obviously a difficult time for you I would suggest a gratitude practice. Anything to counterbalance the worry and negative thoughts that have crept into your brain. When worry is on repeat it becomes a vicious cycle of stress which starts to manifest in the body. Breaking that cycle is the key. Doing fun, uplifting, rewarding things can go a long way towards doing that. Negative thoughts brought this on and positive ones can reverse it! It sounds simple but it’s true. Shifting your thoughts and attitude to one of gratitude, for what IS good in your life, will make a world of difference. A diagnosis doesn’t have to be a death sentence. It can also serve as a beautiful wake up call. An opportunity to begin living your life in ways you only dreamt of. Start with a five minute gratitude practice upon getting in bed followed by a beautiful 15 minute guided meditation. There’s many right here on TH-cam. Go for walks in nature, the beach, and really appreciate the experience. The clean air, sunshine, trees, flowers and abundant life. Do anything that puts a smile on your face or better still makes you laugh and do it often!! You’ve got this! Blessing✨

@@cheeverdog Glad to hear it. I didn’t mention it but I too developed a serious case of this years ago. It was clearly a anxiety symptom for me and Im pretty sure yours is as well. Clinical anxiety can be a beast and the earlier you nip it in the bud the better. Left unchecked those negative neural pathways can be hard to break. I found going down earlier and around the same time every night made a difference as well, not to mention regular exercise. One more suggestion, please watch some Dr Joe Dispenza testimonials and related material. Mind blowing stuff that might be music to your ears. I hope for your sake the diagnosis becomes a real blessing in disguise. Take care!!
